Indiana at Penn State Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/7/2013
It’s a rare Monday night Big Ten game as No. 5 Indiana visits Penn State in Big Ten action – neither team will play another regular-season game on a Monday. That night is now the province of the Big East and Big 12 generally on ESPN (this one is on Big Ten Network).
College Basketball Handicapping: Predicting the Line on Marquee Matchups
by Aaron Smith - 1/6/2013
The New Year is here, and the Duke Blue Devils are still unbeaten and sitting on top of the college basketball rankings. College basketball will continue to take a bit of a back seat to college football and the NFL for the next couple weeks, so bettors may still have a chance to find a little extra value in college hoops right now.
Ohio State at Illinois Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 1/4/2013
While the dead cold of winter and coming of the New Year attends the dying embers of one college sport, football, we can throw a new log on the fire and stoke the flames of regional rivalries and gambling debauchery thanks to the dawn of college basketball’s conference season.

Most of the sports world is paying attention to college football right now, but bettors looking for value should keep an eye on college basketball as the New Year nears. The oddsmakers tend to spend a little less time on these college hoops matchups this time of the season, so there is always that chance of finding some soft lines.
UNLV at North Carolina Picks and College Basketball Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/28/2012
It’s quite a rarity in Saturday afternoon’s game between No. 20 UNLV and North Carolina: It’s only the fifth time the Tar Heels’ 179 nonconference games at the Smith Center that the opposition is ranked and UNC isn’t. Carolina is 2-2 in those matchups, with the last such happening on Dec. 10, 2010, with the Heels beating No. 10 Kentucky, 75-73. As the school Web site points out, expect a great game Saturday as three of those previous four occurrences have been decided in the final 20 seconds.
College Basketball Picks: New Mexico vs. Cincinnati Odds and Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 12/26/2012
The New Mexico Lobos will look to get back to their winning ways when they square off against the undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats this Thursday night at Fifth Third Arena. The game is set to tip off at 9 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2. The Lobos cracked the AP’s Top 25 with an impressive 12-0 straight up start but quickly retreated from the latest rankings after an ugly 70-65 loss to South Dakota State as 15-point favorites at home this past Saturday.

by Trevor Whenham - 12/21/2012
It’s time for the weekly look back at what has happened in the world of college basketball, the impact it has had on bettors, and what we might expect going forward in our endless search for college basketball betting value:

Final exams week is always one of the least exciting for bettors in college basketball. During the week last week the games were few and far between. The games that were on the schedule were top teams against cupcakes. The 30- and 40-point blowouts were all over the place. Thankfully, last Saturday brought a couple of great games. Butler’s historic upset of No. 1 Indiana might have been the best game of the year thus far. Arizona’s last-minute comeback to beat Florida was an exciting one for those who were able to stay up and watch.
College Basketball Picks: Stanford at NC State Odds and Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 12/17/2012
The Cardinal may be poised to break into the Top 25 with a few more quality wins after posting a 7-3 straight up record in their first 10 games. In their only other matchup this season against a ranked team, they lost to then-No.13 Missouri 78-70 as 2.5-point underdogs on Nov.22. Stanford is 4-4-1 against the spread overall and 2-1-1 ATS in road and neutral-site games.
College Basketball Picks: Florida at Arizona Odds and Betting Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 12/14/2012
Saturday marks the end of “Finals Week” across the college basketball landscape. The national schedule has been reduced throughout most of the week due, in large part, to players (remember: they have to hold up their end of the whole student-athlete charade) having to take final exams at their respective institutes of higher education.
Looking Back at the Week in College Basketball Betting

As we head into another exciting weekend of action, it’s time for our weekly look back at the highs and lows of the last week of the college basketball season from a betting perspective, From the hundreds of games that were played in the last week, here are eight situations most worth mentioning:
College Basketball Handicapping: Kentucky Struggles
by Trevor Whenham - 12/14/2012
If you trusted what the media had to say you would think that the sky was falling in Lexington, Kentucky. The Wildcats have lost three games this year. There is no real shame in losing to Duke, but Notre Dame isn’t a great loss, and the Baylor loss is just plain bad at this point. The team had the top recruiting class in the country and was ranked third heading into the season, so they are not supposed to be just 6-3 and unranked in mid-December.
Handicapping the Undefeated College Basketball Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 12/12/2012
The college basketball season seems like it just begun, but we are already almost a third of the way through the season — and not far from the start of the conference season. Every team starts the season undefeated, but already we are down to just 14 teams that have yet to lose. The prospect of an undefeated team entering the NCAA Tournament is enticing every year. So, can it happen this year? Here’s a look at each unbeaten team, what they have accomplished, and when (or if) they are likely to lose:

Entering this week, the Indiana Hoosiers are still at the top of the college basketball rankings. There are 10 remaining unbeaten teams in the Top 25. Duke has beaten three teams that were ranked in the Top 4 when they played them. The Illinois Fighting Illini served notice in Maui earlier this year, and then they put a hurting on Gonzaga in Spokane last weekend. It looks like we better keep an eye on the Fighting Illini moving forward.

Last week was a great week of early-season college basketball. The Big Ten/ACC Challenge ended in a 6-6 tie, and there was some terrific action in those 12 games. Duke found a way to beat another highly-ranked opponent and stay unbeaten. Maryland is starting to make some real noise with some impressive performances early in the season as well. Indiana continues to show they are worthy of their No. 1 spot in the rankings. Madison Square Garden will host the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday of this week, and Saturday’s schedule will be full of exciting games as usual.

It’s time to start a new weekly tradition — a weekly look back at the highs and lows of the week in college basketball betting. As the season goes on we’ll hit on the games that made people feel like geniuses, and those that were frustrating enough to make them consider giving up sports betting entirely. To start with, here are seven teams that have stood out for their exploits this past week:

I hope everyone has recovered from the huge Thanksgiving meals. It’s always a great time of the year, and basketball kicks off in a big way during this late-November period. Indiana still sits at the top of the new Top 25 polls, but Duke is now a strong second. The Blue Devils have wins over Kentucky and Louisville early in the season, and it looks like they are primed for a big season. With Michigan and Ohio State sitting at spots three and four, the Big Ten Conference has three of the top four teams in the nation.
College Basketball Picks: North Carolina at Indiana Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/26/2012
Probably the best event before conference play begins in college basketball arrives on Tuesday and Wednesday this week with the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The made-for-ESPN Challenge has been a huge success so far, and the shifting landscape might show the Big Ten has surpassed the ACC in basketball. While the ACC won the first 10 Challenges, the Big Ten won 8-4 last year, and four of those wins came on the road. It was the Big Ten’s third straight Commissioner’s Cup.
