College Basketball: Tennessee Volunteers Predictions with Futures Odds and Betting Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 10/28/2010
Allegations and questions are swirling around outspoken Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl, but the 2010-11 season is set to move forward and a promising squad is looking to block out the distractions and focus on returning to the NCAA Tournament for a sixth consecutive year.
College Basketball Predictions: Gonzaga Bulldogs Futures Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 10/28/2010
The 2009-10 season was supposed to be when Gonzaga was in rebuilding mode. Mark Few and the Bulldogs weren’t even expected to win the West Coast Conference. However, they proved the doubters wrong in their dominance of the league. It’s no longer a surprise when the Bulldogs beat major conference opponents, because they have proven they are a dominant basketball program.
2010-11 Pitt Panthers College Basketball Predictions with Futures Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 10/27/2010
Jamie Dixon is a very good basketball coach. Now he has to prove that. Sure, he has a spectacular record - the most wins of any coach ever in his first seven years. He has never made it as far as the Final Four, though, and his teams have underachieved in the NCAA Tournament more than once.
College Basketball Picks: Washington Huskies Predictions with Futures Odds
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 10/27/2010
The rollercoaster ride that was the Washington Huskies 2009-10 season started with lofty preseason expectations and ended with a surprise run to the Sweet 16. What happened in between is anyone’s guess. The Huskies, a pick to contend for the conference crown, started Pac-10 play 1-3 and later 3-5. They got back on track and eventually closed the regular season with four consecutive wins, but remained a ‘bubble’ team heading into the conference tournament.
College Basketball Predictions: Butler Bulldogs Futures Odds and Betting Preview
by T.O. Whenham - 10/27/2010
I’m not sure if other coaches envy Butler Coach Brad Stevens or pity him. Probably a little of both. Stevens looks like he is about 12 years old, but he has already led his team closer to a National Championship - one missed shot by Gordon Hayward - than any other mid-major coach has come. That’s definitely something to envy.
Mountain West Conference Predictions and MWC College Basketball Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 10/26/2010
Well, apparently The Mountain West didn’t make enough of an impression by dominating West Coast basketball last year and being one of the most reliable conferences in the country to make a profit betting in. Last year The Mountain had a coming out party with four teams earning NCAA Tournament bids.
College Basketball Picks: Duke Blue Devils Predictions with Futures Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 10/26/2010
I hate Duke. Always have. Still, it’s hard to have anything but begrudging respect for what Coach K has done with this program. Last year he changed his approach to suit his personnel - something he does better than anyone - and built a team that just kept getting better as the season went along before peaking at exactly the right time. Now he will be changing his playing style radically again, but this time he won’t be sneaking up on anyone - the Blue Devils are the favorites and the ones wit the targets on their back.
2010-11 Kansas State Wildcats College Basketball Predictions with Futures Odds and Betting Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 10/26/2010
Hope is running wild in the Manhattan that isn’t in New York. Kansas State won 29 games last year and made a run to the Elite Eight. That was an impressive season, but if they were to replicate it this year it would be a disappointment. Everything seems to be setting up perfectly for them this season - they are talented and ready to play at a time when the other powers in the Big 12 are younger or less established.
College Basketball Picks: North Carolina Tar Heels Predictions with Futures Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 10/26/2010
Last year’s UNC team was a perfect illustration of just how hard it is to win in college basketball. After winning a National Championship, the team lost four starters. That left them with a stunning lack of leadership. Despite a major influx of impressive young talent, the team just wasn’t good enough.
Basketball Props Predictions: Where Will Izzo Coach in 2010-11?
by Alan Matthews - 6/7/2010
Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert obviously cares more about his NBA franchise than he does his alma mater because Gilbert is trying to lure Coach Tom Izzo away from Michigan State. Of course, the Cavs canned Mike Brown after they were surprised by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. And soon after that, GM Danny Ferry stepped down.
College Basketball Handicapping: Big 12 Tournament Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 3/9/2010
While the Big East is getting all of the love and attention for the mediocre teams that are playing their way into the NIT, the Big 12 currently sits as the best conference in college basketball. And we’ll get to see this group go at it starting at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Kansas City as the Big 12 Conference Tournament gets underway.
College Basketball Handicapping: Mountain West Conference Tournament
by Robert Ferringo - 3/9/2010
One of my favorite conferences in the country – The Mountain West – starts its tournament on Wednesday with a play-in game between Wyoming and Air Force. The winner advances to the quarterfinals, and the rest of the tournament begins in earnest at noon on Thursday, March 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
College Basketball Handicapping: Pac-10 Tournament Preview
by Matt Severance - 3/9/2010
This year’s Pac-10 Tournament should in a way be more fascinating than any in recent memory because it’s basically in the same boat as, say, the Horizon League or Sun Belt (or pick your mid-major conference) in that only the Pac-10 winner might reach the NCAA Tournament. That’s how down the conference is this season – it ranks eighth in conference RPI behind the five other BCS conference as well as the Atlantic 10 and Mountain West.
College Basketball Handicapping: Atlantic 10 Tournament Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 3/9/2010
The Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament will be one of the more closely watched tourneys in the country this week as bubble teams from the major conferences sit around and sweat out how fellow bubblers Charlotte, Dayton and Rhode Island perform in Atlantic City this week. All three of those teams are presently on the outside looking in on the NCAA Tournament, but all three are also capable of making a significant run and potentially swiping a bid.
College Basketball Handicapping: Betting Conference Tournaments
by T.O. Whenham - 3/9/2010
The NCAA Tournament is so close that we can almost taste it. Before we can enjoy the perfect madness of March, though, we have to get through the rest of the conference tournaments, including all of the major conference tournaments. With the obvious exception of the Pac-10, where there doesn't seem to be any good teams, those major conference tournaments aren't likely to significantly change the perceptions of the teams at the top of the conferences - though they will settle some big bubble questions.
College Basketball handicapping: Big East Tournament Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 3/8/2010
There is no conventional way to break down the absolutely mammoth Big East Tournament, which begins at noon on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. So instead of parsing through sleepers, favorites, dark horses, and permutations of matchups I will simply take a look at each of the 16 teams headed to NYC and discuss their prospects and motivations.
College Basketball Handicapping: Big Ten Tournament Preview
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 3/8/2010
The Big Ten is as top heavy of a conference as you will see in college basketball, and considering the format of the 11-team conference tournament that starts Wednesday, seeing an upset winner at Conseco Fieldhouse this week is unlikely.
College Basketball Handicapping: Conference USA Tournament Preview
by Matt Severance - 3/8/2010
Thanks to John Calipari leaving Memphis for Kentucky, this year’s Conference USA Tournament actually might have some drama. Under Coach Cal, Memphis was completely dominant in CUSA and had won the previous four conference tournaments. This year’s Tigers may need to make it five in a row if they want to return to the Big Dance as they are squarely on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament.
College Basketball Handicapping: Purdue Without Hummel
by T.O. Whenham - 3/4/2010
Ten days ago my NCAA Tournament projections had Purdue as a No. 1 seed, and there was a very good chance that I was going to have them going very deep in my March Madness bracket. Now, thanks to one bad step by junior forward Robbie Hummel, they are the biggest college basketball handicapping puzzle in the whole tournament.
College Basketball Handicapping: High-Profile Bubble Teams
by T.O. Whenham - 3/4/2010
The NCAA Tournament is now just around the corner. That means that for a lot of teams the next week or two are absolutely crucial - the difference between going to the dance and having to settle for a lesser tournament that no one cares about. There are some big-name programs fighting for their lives right now - and perhaps fighting a losing battle. Here's a look at five high-profile bubble teams:
