College Basketball: Odds to Win 2014 National Championship
by Robert Ferringo - 5/16/2013
The college basketball offseason isn’t nearly as sexy as the down time between the major professional sports. But with players leaving early for the NBA Draft, the transfer carousel, some last-minute recruiting commitments, and off-court arrests and suspensions impacting rosters across the land, there is no shortage of storylines as the deck gets reshuffled each summer in one of the most wagered on sports in the nation.
Andrew Wiggins to Kansas Props Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 5/16/2013
I will give college basketball rankings services credit in that they are usually pretty accurate on which players are going to be stars, while it's way more hit-and-miss in college football for obvious reasons. But the fawning over Wiggins it's almost ridiculous. The ironic thing is that he's been the top-rated recruit in the Class of 2013 only since October.
2014 College Basketball National Championship Contenders
by Trevor Whenham - 4/16/2013
The dust has only barely settled on the Final Four, yet it is never too early to look towards next year. Next year’s Championship Game will be played on April 7, 2014, in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. So, which teams are legitimate 2014 college basketball National Championship contenders? And which ones are going to have a rough road? Let’s take a look:
2014 Final Four Predictions: Louisville and Michigan
by Trevor Whenham - 4/10/2013
The dust is still settling from this year’s epic NCAA Tournament Championship Game, but it is never too early to look forward to next year’s game. Louisville and Michigan were both very worthy competitors in the big game, and they put up a heck of a battle. The question now is whether the two teams will be strong National Championship contenders next year.
NCAA Props Odds and Predictions: Next UCLA Basketball Coach
by Alan Matthews - 3/26/2013
That Round of 64 NCAA Tournament game between Minnesota and UCLA really was quite something as it led to decisions that will cost the schools nearly a combined $6 million in buyouts. The Gophers, a perennial underachiever under Tubby Smith in the Big Ten, beat the Bruins, a disappointment the past five seasons under Ben Howland. So despite the fact that UCLA won the Pac-12 regular-season title, Howland was canned. And Minnesota followed suit with Smith after the Gophers lost their second game to Florida.
2013 Big Ten Tournament Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/13/2013
It has become a generally accepted theory that the Big Ten is the best college basketball conference in the country. That hypothesis has been spewed by the bobblehead media for months and has now become indoctrinated into the general college basketball betting public.
2013 ACC Tournament Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/13/2013
Last year I said it was “a pretty safe bet that either Duke or North Carolina is going to win the ACC Tournament.” And it was, since one of those two schools had won the ACC Tournament 15 times in 16 years. But Florida State pulled a major surprise and beat both Carolina powerhouses en route to the school’s first title.
2013 Pac-12 Tournament Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/12/2013
Last year at this time the Pac-12 was a complete afterthought on the national college basketball scene. On the eve of the Pac-12 Tournament they had exactly zero teams in the Top 25 and were on the way to an insulting two bids – both double-digit seeds – in the NCAA Tournament.
2013 Big 12 Tournament Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/12/2013
Only two teams have won the Big 12 Tournament Championship since 2006. And one of them is no longer in the league. Kansas (five) and Missouri (two) have dominated the Big 12 Championship over the past seven years. And the Jayhawks, after winning their ninth straight Big 12 regular season crown, are the heavy favorites to cut down the nets again this weekend.
2013 Mountain West Tournament Picks and MWC College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/12/2013
It has been a banner year for the Mountain West conference. Perpetually underrated, the MWC is home to some of the best programs west of the Mississippi. And heading into this week’s action they have the No. 1 conference RPI in the nation.
2013 Big East Tournament Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/11/2013
The dissection and desecration of the Big East has been one of the underlying themes of this college basketball season. The best, most competitive, most successful conference of the last quarter-century will cease to exist a month from now. But, before the league is blown up, it will have one final battle royal in the Mecca of basketball.
2013 SEC Tournament Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/11/2013
The conference tournaments taking place across the country this week are set to be the final determinant of which teams are invited and left out of the NCAA Tournament. And perhaps no league in the nation has as many teams trying to fight their way into The Big Dance as the SEC.
NCAA Basketball Predictions: 2013 Players of the Year Props
by Alan Matthews - 3/8/2013
What a great way to end the college basketball regular season Sunday: No. 2 Indiana at No. 7 Michigan with the Big Ten title on the line and likely a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as well for the winner. The Hoosiers will clinch their first outright conference title in 20 seasons with a victory, while a U-M victory would create anywhere from a two-way on up to a four-way tie for the regular-season championship.
WCC Tournament Picks: College Basketball Betting Odds and Predictions
by Dave Schwab - 3/5/2013
The Gonzaga Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a routine 81-52 romp over Portland as 25.5-point home favorites to finish 29-2 straight up overall and a perfect 16-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs have been installed as a huge 4/11 favorite to win the tournament at Bovada. They will not be in action until Saturday night’s Semifinal Round and will most likely will have to face either the No.5 seed San Francisco Dons (33/1 to won the conference tourney) or the No.4 seed Santa Clara Broncos (22/1).
NCAA Basketball Handicapping: Can Gonzaga Win National Championship?
by Trevor Whenham - 3/5/2013
The Bulldogs can officially never be called a Cinderella team again. That ship probably sailed years ago, but now that they have been elevated to the top of both major polls they are officially and undeniably a national power. It has been an amazing ride for the team this year. They started the season ranked just 21st in the AP Poll, and they have become only the third team in the last 21 years to rise from that high to the top of the mountain. 5Dimes now has the Bulldogs as the third-favorite to win the national title at +650.
College Basketball Handicapping: Tournament Contenders and Pretenders
by Trevor Whenham - 3/5/2013
It has been a crazy season for top-ranked teams. It seems like every week several teams climb the polls only to lose — and often in embarrassing fashion. Through the end of February we saw Top-5 teams lose to unranked squads 19 times — the most in five years. No team has been able to consistently prove that they are exceptional. It’s just a matter of which faults you can live with.
College Basketball Handicapping: Predicting the Line on Marquee Matchups
by Aaron Smith - 3/4/2013
The calendar has turned to March, which means it is almost time for March Madness. If you are a fan of college basketball, there isn’t a better time of the year. Tournament basketball starts this week with some of the smaller conferences kicking off their conference tournaments.
College Basketball Handicapping: Good Teams that are Bad ATS
by Indian Cowboy - 3/3/2013
Public bettors love the glamour teams. Sharp bettors love to look for spots to bet against the glamour teams. Betting against the current No. 1 team this season in certain spots could have created a windfall of betting profit. The public loves to get on teams that are ranked highly and teams with good records. But the sports bookies always add points to the lines for these teams, and that creates some great opportunities to find value. Here on Sunday we will look at some teams that have been good on the court but not so great at the betting window.
College Basketball Handicapping: Betting on Bubble Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 2/26/2013
The closer we get to the end of the college basketball season, the more teams there are that are desperate for wins. The goal for almost every team at the start of the season is to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. As February turns into March, teams that aren’t likely to get an automatic bid are pushing as hard as they can to do enough to be an at-large selection. That is a tremendous amount of pressure on a team, and some handle it better than others.
College Basketball Handicapping: Predicting the Line on Marquee Matchups
by Aaron Smith - 2/25/2013
Indiana sits at the top of the rankings for a third straight week after coming out of East Lansing with a big win over the Spartans. The Miami Hurricanes had been getting a lot of votes for the top spot, but their loss to Wake Forest sends them down several spots in the rankings this week.
