NCAA Basketball Betting Advice: High Seeds to Avoid in Conference Tournaments
by Trevor Whenham - 3/7/2016
Depending upon your viewpoint, the conference tournaments that are underway and really get rolling later in the week are either an appetizer for the glory that is next week or a distraction that just gets in the way of the good stuff. If you fit into the former group then you probably see this weekend's action as prime betting time. As you prepare to bet in those conference tournaments, though, you need to be careful - there are highly-seeded teams in most of the tournaments that aren't nearly as strong as their seeding suggests. I'm not saying you shouldn't bet on them. You just need to be especially attentive when handicapping them:
2016 Horizon League Tournament Predictions and Expert Betting Picks
by Chris Vasile - 3/4/2016
The Horizon League Tournament is taking place March 5-8 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The winner of the tournament is designated the Horizon League Tournament Champion and receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins March 17. There have been four different champions since 2010, but the Valparaiso Crusaders have won two out of the last three tournaments and are favorites heading into this years edition.
NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting March 5 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 3/4/2016
Unless you have a betting interest against them, don't you have to root for both Boston College and Rutgers on Saturday in their regular-season finales? Thank goodness the northeast portion of the U.S. has Villanova to root for because otherwise it has been a mess up there (St. John's is also terrible) college basketball wise. BC hosts Clemson on Saturday and Rutgers hosts Minnesota. Both the Eagles and Scarlet Knights are 0-17 in their respective conferences. The last time two teams from different power conferences finished winless in conference play in the same season was 1953-54.
NCAA Basketball Betting Advice: Under-the-Radar Teams to Back in March
by Trevor Whenham - 3/3/2016
We are getting into a truly glorious time of year. First come conference tournaments and then the most grand of dances - the NCAA Tournament. From a betting perspective it is nearly a perfect month. As we head into the postseason, it's a good time to look for teams flying under the radar in lesser conferences that could provide some nice value for the next week or two. Here are six teams that stand out as being potentially profitable:
2016 March Madness Predictions for Potential Cinderellas that Can go Far
by Trevor Whenham - 3/3/2016
Every year when we are filling out our NCAA Tournament brackets there are few things more satisfying than being able to correctly pick out a Cinderella team or two - the squads that unexpectedly win games and steal headlines. We'll obviously have a better sense of what is possible when the actual bracket is out and we know which teams are in and who they are playing. We can get a headstart on the process, though, and pick out a few teams that have a chance to do some impressive damage later in March. Here are five that stand out:
2016 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 3/2/2016
CAA is the acronym for the Colonial Athletic Association but this year that "C" might as well stand for "Cannibal". The CAA was one of the most top-heavy, parity driven leagues in the country this year, with five teams in the 10-team league battling into the final weeks for the regular-season title.
NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting March 3 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 3/2/2016
In some ways, the American Athletic Conference is the most interesting major conference in the nation (I said major, not Power 5). That's because its potential regular-season champion and the only ranked team in the conference, SMU, is ineligible for postseason play. Thus, the AAC could get anywhere from as few as two teams in the Big Dance to as many as five. That number partly could be decided by two games Thursday I will look at here.
College Basketball Betting: Weekly Big East Handicapping Report
by Dave Schwab - 3/2/2016
The Big East regular season comes to a close this week in advance of next week's conference tournament at Madison Square Garden. The No. 3 Villanova Wildcats laid claim to the regular-season title this past Tuesday night by rolling over DePaul 83-62 to move to 15-2 straight up in conference play with Saturday's home game against Georgetown remaining on the schedule.
NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting March 2 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 3/1/2016
Do you realize that the First Four in Dayton will conclude just two weeks from tonight? Season has flown by. ESPN Bracketology expert Joe Lunardi claims that "realistically" 59 of the NCAA Tournament field's 68 spots are gone and there are 24 teams competing for the final nine. If Louisville and SMU were eligible for the Big Dance, that would leave just seven spots. Kansas is the new No. 1 team in the polls and is now the +600 favorite at BetOnline to cut down the nets in April.
2016 West Coast Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 2/29/2016
There will be a lot of interested eyes peering into Las Vegas this weekend for the West Coast Conference Tournament. Three teams that are on the proverbial NCAA Tournament bubble will all be gunning for the league's title and its coveted at-large bid. And the results of this conference tournament could send some aftershocks throughout the rest of the country.
2016 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Predictions and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 2/29/2016
Arch Madness, also known as the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, has become the marker that The Madness has begun. This is not the first conference tournament - the Atlantic Sun and Patriot League each begin on March 1 - but Arch Madness is the first of the recognizable, nationally-televised leagues to determine their championship.
NCAA Tournament Projections: Only a Dozen or So Bubble Teams Exist
by Robert Ferringo - 2/29/2016
If I've said it once I've said it a million times: Joe Lunardi is a fraud. Joe Lunardi is a loser. Joe Lunardi is a clown. He is one of the biggest jokes in sports, yet for the next two weeks his face is going to be plastered all over ESPN and his drivel will be treated like gospel.
March Madness Handicapping: Bid Stealers Looking To Make Life Tough for Big-Name Programs
by Robert Ferringo - 2/29/2016
This time of the year there is a lot of talk about the NCAA Tournament bubble. These are the alleged teams fighting for the last at-large bids into The Big Dance, as determined by the NCAA Tournament selection committee. According to some members of the bobblehead media - who are mostly just trying to increase interest and boost ratings for games broadcast on their networks - there is this vast ocean of teams still clawing for the final spots in the tourney.
College Basketball Betting: Weekly Schedule Spot Fade Picks
by Aaron Smith - 2/29/2016
I'll be looking at schedule spots that could be bad ones for teams throughout the course of the season and then recommending plays based on those spots. We'll track the weekly results throughout the course of the season. For games that don't have a line at the time each article is written, the Bookmaker opening line will be used for grading purposes. All plays will be one-unit plays.
NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting March 1 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 2/29/2016
Unfortunately, I don't work for any of multi-billionaire Warren Buffett's companies. You see, the Berkshire Hathaway CEO announced on Monday an Ultimate Office Bracket Contest. Any employee in any of his companies who gets every pick right for the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament wins $1 million a year for life. Obviously getting all those right is unlikely, but the employee with the most correct picks through the Sweet 16 will also win $100,000.
My Votes for Top College Hoops Players in the Nation
by Robert Ferringo - 2/29/2016
I am a voting member of the United States Basketball Writer's Association of America, and this week was the first chance to submit an All-American ballot for college basketball. For those that are interested, here is whom I voted for in regards to All-Americans, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year and National Player of the Year.
NCAA Basketball Betting Tips: How to Handicap Conference Tournaments
by Chris Vasile - 2/27/2016
Conference tournament games present a unique handicapping challenge. While they may seem like any ordinary game to handicap, they combine a tight schedule with high-pressure stakes, which makes for a dynamic atmosphere and a headache to bettors who don't put in the time to research the games beforehand.
NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting Feb. 27 Opening Lines
by Alan Matthews - 2/26/2016
Hard as it is to believe, this is the final full Saturday of the 2015-16 college basketball regular season. All of the major conferences conclude their regular seasons next weekend, but most of the smaller ones wrap up this weekend and start conference tournaments next week. So it's time to start doing your homework on potential giant-killers for the Big Dance like a Chattanooga (Southern Conference) or Stephen F. Austin (Southland), to name two.
College Basketball Betting and Handicapping: Teams that Could Quit
by Trevor Whenham - 2/25/2016
We are in a very interesting portion of the college basketball season. Every game matters as much as it possibly can right now, but fans and teams can't help but start to look forward to the conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament as they finish off their season. With so much on the line it can be easy for teams to take the eyes off the prize down the stretch in the final games of the regular season.
