MLB Handicapping Hot/Cold Pitchers and Hitters Betting Report
by Ricky Dimon - 4/29/2013
We’re far enough into the 2013 Major League Baseball season that it has become a roller-coaster ride for a number of teams and players. Take the Atlanta Braves, for instance. They simply could not lose during the first two weeks, and now they can barely win a game. Even Craig Kimbrel is blowing saves, for crying out loud! Felix Hernandez, on the other hand, has progressed from mediocre (solid by almost anyone else’s standards) to awesome.
MLB Handicapping: Changes to Petco Park and Safeco Field
by Aaron Smith - 4/25/2013
Over the last few years, Major League Baseball has really been dominated by the pitchers. A decade ago it would have been unheard of to have a posted total under seven, but now that can occur in multiple games in a single day. Those who follow the game closely don’t have to be told how much more frequent no-hitters and perfect games have been in the last few years. The edge has certainly swung from the batter over to the pitcher.
Braves at Tigers Predictions and MLB Series Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 4/24/2013
Season-long Interleague Play is new to Major League Baseball, and to this point the series have mostly been duds. As excited as I get for the Marlins-Twins and White Sox-Nationals series, there hasn’t been much buzz to these one-time novelty items.
MLB Baseball Betting: Studs and Duds
by Trevor Whenham - 4/23/2013
It seems like Opening Day was just yesterday, but we are already about 20 games into the baseball season. There is a very long way to go, but we are far enough into the season that it’s time to check in on the teams that are treating bettors well, and those that are putting bettors’ money in a pile and burning it up:
MLB Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 4/22/2013
It's never wise to read too much into any one series being as there are around 50 of them for each Major League Baseball team every season. However, the Detroit Tigers sure appear somewhat overrated after they were swept in Anaheim over the weekend.
This Week in MLB Baseball Betting By the Numbers

Who would have guessed that the Colorado Rockies would be on top of the National League West and the Boston Red Sox would be sitting on top of the American League East? There are plenty of surprises to go around early on this year.
MLB Handicapping Hot/Cold Pitchers and Hitters Betting Report
by Ricky Dimon - 4/22/2013
All kinds of players are doing their best to help their ballclubs in the early stages of the 2013 season. Some may not necessarily be succeeding, but they are certainly helping their fantasy owners. Among them are Mark Reynolds, whose Indians are playing sub-.500 baseball at 7-10 even though their designated hitter is on fire. As for the Orioles, they are a mediocre 10-8 with seven of their 10 victories having been saved by Jim Johnson. The 9-8 Mets, who have cooled off just a bit since a hot start, have watched pitching phenom Matt Harvey notch four of their nine wins.
MLB Handicapping: Atlanta Braves Hot Start
by Trevor Whenham - 4/17/2013
The Atlanta Braves seemed like a logical sleeper pick heading into this baseball season. At 16/1 or so they packed some nice value in World Series futures. Well, you sure can’t sleep on them anymore. They are off to a scorching 12-1 start and have won their last 10 games. That has driven their futures odds way down to 8/1 — and at this rate they could fall further still. It has been impressive to watch so far, but is it sustainable? Does this team has what it takes to contend all the way until October? Let’s take a look:
Handicapping the Oakland A’s Fast Start
by Trevor Whenham - 4/17/2013
Last year the A’s were at least tied with the Orioles for the title of the biggest surprise in baseball. No one other than the most loyal season ticket holders expected anything from the squad. Yet when the dust settled they had won the very tough AL West with a payroll a fraction of the size of their opponents.
MLB Betting and Handicapping: Totals Trends Report
by Aaron Smith - 4/16/2013
We’re only a couple weeks into the MLB season, but we’re getting to the point now where we have enough data to try to get a good read on some teams. Baseball is such a data-driven sport that keeping track of the numbers is a great idea.

The Braves feasted on weak competition for a while at the beginning of this season, but it’s safe to say their 11-1 record is no fluke…not after a road sweep of highly-touted Washington last weekend. Paul Maholm and the rest of the pitching staff are throwing darts, while newcomer Justin Upton is on fire at the plate.
MLB Betting and Handicapping: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews - 4/15/2013
The Atlanta Braves look like the best team in baseball right now, off to an 11-1 start and winners of nine straight entering Tuesday's interleague series opener against the Kansas City Royals. The Braves finished off a hugely impressive sweep of the Washington Nationals over the weekend.
This Week in MLB Baseball Betting By the Numbers
by Aaron Smith - 4/15/2013
Opening Day is now two weeks old, and the baseball season is up and running in full swing. A winning season can’t be made in the course of two weeks, but bad betting habits can go a long way toward making the season a failure in two weeks if you aren’t doing your homework.
Astros at Angels Picks and MLB Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 4/13/2013
It wasn't a good week to be the best right-handed pitcher on a Los Angeles baseball team. On Tuesday, the AL West-favored Angels put ace Jered Weaver on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left (non-throwing) elbow he hurt while falling off the mound in Sunday's game against Texas. Weaver is out 4-6 weeks.
Braves at Nationals Picks and MLB Betting Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 4/12/2013
It’s never too early in the Major League Baseball season to make a statement. That is exactly what Atlanta and Washington will try to do when they meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Nationals Park in Washington. These two National League East rivals are the two favorites to win their division and, as of Friday, had two of the best records in baseball.
MLB Handicapping: Early Betting Surprises
by Trevor Whenham - 4/10/2013
A week means nothing in the grand scheme of things in a baseball season. It’s barely a blip on the radar. Still, at the start of the season we are forced to make guesses and rely on assumptions about how teams will perform out of the gate and what that means for early betting opportunities. By looking at how teams have performed in the opening week of the season compared to those expectations — spotting the pleasant surprises and the early disappointments — we can start to adjust our expectations before they cost too much.
Handicapping the Best 2013 MLB Rookies
by Trevor Whenham - 4/10/2013
Last year baseball fans and bettors were incredibly spoiled when it came to rookies. Bryce Harper had an epic rookie season that would have been noteworthy most years, but he was totally overshadowed by the great season that Mike Trout had — not just great for a rookie, either. We aren’t going to see a rookie season like either of those two had last year, but there are still several rookies who can have a big impact for bettors, so they are well worth getting to know.
MLB Handicapping: Best Bullpens to Bank On
by Trevor Whenham - 4/10/2013
Casual baseball bettors tend not to pay as much attention to bullpens as they should. The bullpen isn’t sexy — at least not unless there is a high-profile closer. With starters only expected to last five or six innings by a lot of teams these days, though, the quality of the bullpen, the availability of relievers on that day, and the recent form can make the difference between a bet that is packed with value and one that is a total dud. Here’s a handicapping look at four bullpens that have the potential to be big difference-makers this year:

It’s been a mixed bag for former Cy Young Award winners to begin the 2013 Major League Baseball season. Clayton Kershaw has been unhittable, but R.A. Dickey and David Price are off to slower starts in the American League. Interestingly enough, both hurlers have already lost games to Cleveland’s Justin Masterson.
This Week in MLB Baseball Betting By the Numbers
by Aaron Smith - 4/8/2013
The Major League Baseball season is off and running. There isn’t a longer season in all of sports. Successful baseball bettors are always mindful of the fact that this season is six months long, and there are going to be plenty of bumps along the way. It is definitely a grind-it-out type of season!
