ATS
Hot
New York Islanders 8-2
The New York Islanders are one of the hottest teams in hockey despite being in seventh place in the Metro Division standings. The Islanders have won and covered eight of their last 10 games, with their two losses coming at the hands of Ottawa and Philadelphia. They are currently riding a five-game winning streak, including back-to-back impressive wins against Carolina and Colorado. They have averaged 3.2 GF/G over this stretch, which is much higher than their 2.71 GF/G season average. As for the goaltending, Ilya Sorokin has been elite over his last seven starts. He has allowed just 1.86 GA/G over his last seven starts and has allowed just six goals over his last four starts. The Islanders are about to play three straight road games, and five of their next six games are away from home ice. Road games have been a struggle for the Islanders, as they are just 10-9-5 on the road this season, but they are hot. Overall, the Islanders are just 25-24 ATS this season.
Columbus Blue Jackets 8-2
The Blue Jackets have also been on fire of late, as they have covered eight of their last 10 games and have won 11 of their last 16 games. The two games which they failed to cover were multi-goal losses on the road to the Islanders and the Hurricanes. The offense has been firing on all cylinders since the start of January, as they have averaged 3.5 GF/G, which is much higher than their 3.3 GF/G season average. The goaltending has been much better as well. Elvis Merzlikins has allowed just 14 goals over his past seven starts, and he has posted a 6-1 record over that span of starts. The Blue Jackets are just 11-14 ATS on the road this season, and they are set to begin a four-game road stretch, so they might fall off. However, the Blue Jackets are 29-21 ATS this season, which is the seventh best record ATS in the NHL.
Season Standings:
- Anaheim Ducks 33-17
- Washington Capitals 32-18
- Vegas Golden Knights 32-19
Cold
New Jersey Devils 1-9
The Devils have been struggling of late, having covered just one of their last 10 games and have won just four of their last 14 games overall. The offseason addition of Jacob Markstrom was game changing for this franchise and expanded their championship window. However, since the start of the new year, the Devils have forgotten how to play offense. The Devils have scored just 29 times since December 28th and have averaged just 2.5 GF/G over their past 10 games. To make matters worse, Markstrom is now out 4-6 weeks with an MCL strain. The offense will need to get going or the Devils season will continue to spiral. Overall, the Devils are the third worst team in the NHL at covering the spread, as they have covered just 38% of their games this season.
Colorado Avalanche 3-7
It has been a month full of inconsistencies for the Avalanche. And as a result, they have been terrible ATS, covering just three of their last 10 games. Colorado has seen some issues offensively, as they have averaged just 3.0 GF/G, which is down from their 3.25 GF/G season mark. In addition to the offensive inconsistencies, their goaltending has not been consistent, either. They have Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, who have combined to allow 18 goals over their last five games and the Avs are just 1-4 straight up and ATS as a result, over their last five games. Overall, the Avs are 19-33 ATS this season, which is tied with the Boston Bruins for the worst mark in the NHL.
Season Standings:
- Boston Bruins 19-33
- Colorado Avalanche 19-33
- New Jersey Devils 19-31
Money Line
Hot
Washington Capitals 8-1-1
The Capitals, to no one’s surprise, are the hottest team in the league, as they have picked up points in 13 of their last 14 games and they are tied with the Winnipeg Jets for the league lead in points with 73. Washington has been dominant all season, and their +55-goal differential is the second-best mark in the league -- they have allowed the least amount of goals of any team this season. Their roster has proven its depth, with 18 guys already recording 10 or more points just 50 games into the season. In addition to their newly found offensive depth, Logan Thompson has been so dominant for the Caps that they extended him for six years. Thompson has allowed just five goals in his last six starts, and Washington is 6-0 during those starts. There is no stopping Washington.
New York Islanders 8-2
Not only are they the hottest team in hockey at covering the spread, but the Islanders are also the second hottest team in hockey straight up. The Islanders are now sitting at 51 points on the season and are just four points out of the second wild card spot. If Sorokin keeps playing at this level and the offense stays average, the Islanders could find themselves back in the playoff picture.
Cold
San Jose Sharks 2-8
Shark’s fans are ready for the 2030’s. San Jose has won just five games since December 5th and are just 5-19-1 over their last 25 games. Over their last 10, the Sharks have just two wins and have allowed 4.6 GA/G while managing to score an average of just 2.7 GF/G. They have the worst goaltending situation in the league, and the offense is nothing to go on about. To make matters worse, the Sharks play eight of their next 11 games on the road, where they have collected just 17 of their 36 points. If you needed to make matters even worse, the trade deadline is quickly approaching, which means San Jose will be shipping away whatever they can to acquire future capital. This season is once again abysmal for Sharks fans.
Pittsburgh Penguins 3-7
Thanks to the resurgence of the New York Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins now find themselves in the basement of the Metro Division with just 48 points. Their -40-goal differential is the worst in the Eastern Conference and the second worst in the league behind the Sharks. The Penguins tallied five goals in each of their three wins over this 10-game period. However, aside from those three games, they have had virtually no offense, as they have scored just eight goals in their seven losses. Pittsburgh has been inconsistent all season, and that Sidney Crosby window seems to be nearly shut.
