ATS
Hot
Texas A&M Aggies 5-0
The 10th ranked Aggies have been one of the hottest teams against the spread over the last five games, covering in each contest. Over their last five games, the Aggies are 5-0 and have an average margin of victory of +19.8, and they have picked up some big wins against No. 11 Purdue, Texas, and Texas Tech. Texas A&M is one of the best rebounding teams in the country, which helps them create second chance points and in-turn creating a big lead. They lead the country in offensive RPG, pulling in 16.6 per game. In addition to dominating the boards on the offensive side of the ball, their defense is suffocating, as they allow just 62.4 PPG, which is the second lowest total in the conference. They are limiting opponents to just 28.7% from beyond the arc and just 37.7% overall. When you pair great defense with top of the nation offensive rebounding, it is no wonder the Aggies are covering left and right. The Aggies have a tough stretch on deck with a road trip to Norman and Lexington to take on ranked opponents in Oklahoma and Kentucky, while also playing host to Alabama between the road trips.
Season Leaders:
- St. Bonaventure 13-1
- Farleigh Dickinson 11-2
- Houston Christian 11-2
- San Jose State 12-3
- Illinois State 11-3
Cold
Utah Utes 0-5
It has been a rough stretch for the Utes in their first season in the Big 12. They are 1-4 in their last five games overall and they have lost their first three conference games this season. Their lone win came against Florida A&M, but they failed to cover in that one. Their next four games against Iowa, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Iowa State were brutal. Utah was underdogs in all four games and went 0-4, losing by an average of 20.8 PPG. Their last three games have been eye opening as the Utes have averaged just 60 PPG, which is way down from their 81 PPG season average. The Utes next three games are against Oklahoma State, TCU, and BYU, who are a combined 3-6 in conference play, which will give Utah a chance to get out of the conference basement and maybe even keep a game close enough to cover.
Teams to Fade:
- Grand Canyon 2-12
- Minnesota 2-11-2
- Bryant 3-11
- Vermont 3-11
- New Hampshire 3-11
Game Total
Over
Virginia Tech 5-0
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Hokies, as they have started the season just 6-8. However, if you like high scoring games, then you should follow Virginia Tech. The Hokies have hit the over in each of their last five contests. Virginia Tech has done this largely due to their poor defensive efforts during this stretch. They have allowed an average of 78.8 PPG and have allowed 82 or more points in three straight. They dominated North Carolina A&T by a score of 95-67, which is an outlier game in terms of strength of competition. However, their offense has also averaged 77.6 PPG, which is better than their 71.1 PPG season average. They have been cruising to these overs over this stretch, with the Hokies game totals averaging 14.9 PPG over the set game total line. Their next three games are against Stanford, California, and North Carolina State, all of whom rank in the bottom half of the conference in scoring. However, if the Hokies poor defensive showings continue, so will the overs.
Season Leaders:
- Manhattan 11-1
- South Dakota 12-2
- Indiana State 11-2
- North Florida 11-2
- Villanova 11-3-1
Under
Cincinnati Bearcats 0-5
Much like their conference counterpart in Kansas, Cincinnati has been playing in a lot of low-scoring games this season. In fact, they have seen the south side of the game total 12 times this season, which is tied with Kansas for the most in the nation, and their 85.7% Under% is second behind the Jayhawks. Over their last five games, the Bearcats have scored more than 75 points just once, and that was against Grambling, and the under has hit in every single one of them. The Bearcats did pick up a good win against No. 22 Dayton but have gone just 2-3 during this five-game stretch and have lost their last three games. The low scoring games are not all bad for Cincinnati, as they have the second rated defense in the conference, allowing just 61 PPG and keeping opponents to just 28.6% from deep. The Bearcats have also not allowed an opponent to score more than 72 points this season. Unfortunately for their success on the season, but fortunate for those who like low scoring games, their offense is not great, as they rank 12th in the Big 12 with 75.4 PPG. Their next game is against Kansas, a matchup of the top two teams in seeing the under hit. Take the under on Saturday.
Season Leaders:
- Kansas 1-12
- Cincinnati 2-12
- Wagner 1-9-1
- Austin Peay 2-11
- Kent State 2-9
Surprise Start
No. 14 Mississippi State Bulldogs 14-1 (2-0)
In an already crowded SEC conference, there is a new team on the rise that is demanding attention not only within their conference, but also on a national scale. Mississippi State has cruised to a 14-1 record this season with two ranked wins against No. 18 Pittsburgh and on the road against No. 21 Memphis, both of which were double digit wins. They are 2-0 in SEC play with wins over South Carolina (by 35) and Vanderbilt (by 12, on the road). The Bulldogs also have a key nonconference win on the road at SMU. Their loss against Butler is a bad loss. However, a few big wins in conference play and the loss will carry little weight. Depth has played a huge role for Mississippi State as they only have two players averaging double digit PPG, but they have another seven players contributing five or more PPG with nine players playing more than 14 MPG. Josh Hubbard has been bringing the star power for this squad, as he leads the way with 17.1 PPG, while shooting a team best 83.3% from the charity stripe and the guard is shooting over 38% from deep. As a team, Mississippi State leads the conference with a +4.7 SPG differential, while also shooting nearly 7% better than their opponent’s night in and night out. The Bulldogs have four straight games against ranked opponents with home games against No. 6 Kentucky and No. 23 Ole Miss and road games against No. 2 Auburn and No. 1 Tennessee, meaning it will be a quick answer on whether or no Mississippi State can keep themselves relevant.
