ATS
Hot
San Jose State Spartans 17-3
The Spartans have had a rough go of it throughout the season. They are just 10-12 overall and 3-7 in the Mountain West. However, they lead the country in covers. Fourteen of their 22 games have been decided by single digits, with San Jose going 6-8 straight up in that span. San Jose is 9-1 ATS in conference play and have covered each of their last seven games. They are 4-0 ATS in true conference road games, and they have already recorded a cover against seven of their 10 remaining opponents. They have their faults, but the Spartans are sound from both the charity stripe and beyond the arc. Their +8% FT% differential is the second-best mark in the conference, while they also shoot over 35% from deep. You may not hear anything about these Spartans for the rest of the season, but it is important to remember that they lead the country in covering the spread and should be atop your betting slip.
Season Leaders:
- San Jose State 17-3
- Houston Christian 16-3
- UIC 15-4
- Omaha 16-5
- Fairleigh Dickinson 14-4
Cold
Sam Houston State Bearkats 3-15
One team that is worse than our aforementioned Spartans are the Sam Houston State Bearkats. They are just 8-13 this season and have won just one of their eight games in C-USA play. However, these Bearkats do have a commonality with the Spartans; they also lead the nation in a betting category. At 3-15 ATS this season, the Bearkats are the worst team ATS in the nation. Sam Houston State is just 2-8 straight up over their last 10 games and they have failed to cover a game in conference play, going 0-8 ATS. The Bearkats are one of the worst teams defensively in the country, as they rank 316th in PPG allowed, allowing 77.1 PPG. They also allow the opposition to shoot over 45% from the floor. Six of the Bearkats next seven games are against teams with a winning record ATS and have combined to cover in 60.2% of their games this season, while Sam Houston State has covered just 16.7% of their games. Additionally, their next seven opponents are a combined 7-0 ATS against Sam Houston State. Fade, fade, fade and fill your wallets.
Season Leaders:
- Sam Houston State 3-15
- Miami (FL) 4-16-1
- Bellarmine 4-15
- Vermont 4-15
- Northern Kentucky 4-14-1
Game Total
Over
South Dakota Coyotes 17-3
The South Dakota Coyotes lead the nation in overs, as they have hit the over in 85% of their games this season. The over has hit in six of their eight conference games so far, with the Coyotes losing both games that the over failed to hit. The Coyotes lead the Summit League in scoring, as they are averaging 86.1 PPG while also leading the conference in offensive rebounding, averaging over 12 offensive RPG. In addition to their top-notch offense, their defense is one of the worst in the nation. They are allowing 83.7 PPG and allowing opponents to shoot nearly 37% from deep. It is no wonder they are always in a high scoring game. The Coyotes are tied for the nations lead with the North Florida Ospreys. The Summit League also features three teams in the nation’s Top Five in over performances, with North Dakota and St. Thomas (MN) joining South Dakota.
Season Leaders:
- South Dakota 17-3
- North Florida 17-3
- North Dakota 16-4
- St. Thomas (MN) 15-5
- Temple 15-5
Under
Cincinnati Bearcats 3-17
While these Bearcats have trended down since the beginning of Big 12 play, they still lead the league in hitting the south side of the game total. Cincinnati has seen the under hit in 85% of their games this season and have hit the under in eight of their nine games in conference play. The Bearcats do play stout defense and limit opponents to just 63 PPG, the second-best mark in the Big 12. However, their play on offense often fails to bail out their solid defense. The Bearcats are averaging just 71 PPG, which is the third worst mark in the conference. Their performance at the free-throw line has also contributed to the under, as they have a conference worst -11.2% FT% and are shooting just 64.5% from the line as a team.
Season Leaders:
- Cincinnati 3-17
- Kent State 3-14
- Kansas 4-16
- Saint Louis 4-15
- Lipscomb 5-14
Hot Team
Florida Gators 18-2 (5-2)
The Florida Gators are one of if not the most surprising teams in college basketball this season. The Gators dominated a nonconference schedule that was rather light and didn’t garner much attention. People around the basketball landscape thought this would lead to some disappointing days ahead when conference play started for the Gators. However, they have continued their dominating ways, going 5-2 to start SEC play, with their lone losses coming at the hands of Kentucky and Missouri by a combined seven points. They beat the then top ranked Tennessee Vols by 30, and Florida carries an average point differential of +12.4 PPG. As a team, they ranked third in the conference in PPG, as they are averaging 85.3 PPG, shooting 47%. Their defense flies under the radar. They rank second in the conference in PPG allowed, as they are allowing just 65.4 PPG and are limiting opponents to just 27.9% from deep. The Gators also lead the SEC in RPG differential, winning the boards night in and night out. Seven of their final 11 games are against ranked opponents, including their next four, but these Gators are a force to be reckoned with.
