PGA Props Picks: Zurich Classic of New Orleans Predictions
How good is Scottie Scheffler? Let me rephrase that. How GREAT is he?
He could one day supplant Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer as the greatest of all time. Coming off of his second Masters victory in three years and expecting his first child at any moment, he goes and shoots 19 under par for a dominant win that hardly anyone will remember.
The guy is special. And, thankfully, he isn't in the field this week at the Zurich Classic because the sportsbooks are scared to death of him sending his prices through the roof. Just know that no matter what anyone says, he is live to win any and every time he tees it up.
At the TPC Louisiana this week, we are afforded the opportunity to watch and bet on team play. It's only two men to a team, but this will still be fun.
We have not one, but two sets of brothers in the field this week, the Hojgaards and the Fitzpatricks. There is a Northern Irish/Irish duo, as well, featuring two major winners, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.
The betting favorites this week to win the Zurich Classic is a SoCal tandem from Long Beach and San Diego, respectively. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele have Scheffler-like betting odds in this thin field of just 4-1 to win the tournament.
That payout smells like poop, but it's supposed to. The sportsbooks successfully scared us off of Scheffler the past couple of weeks. Do we let them do it to us again with a potential play on the favorite to win?
Both guys are incredibly consistent. A wager on them to finish inside the top 5 might be a better option.
Let’s get to some fun and interesting prop bets and predictions we have for this week’s Zurich Classic.

Alex Fitzpatrick/Matt Fitzpatrick Top 20: -110
Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick will be a force at the Zurich Classic. You are probably familiar with the older brother, Matt. He won his first major at the US Open two years ago at the age of only 27.
This was a massive win for the Brit, especially considering it was his first-ever victory on the PGA Tour. His caddy for that weekend, you guessed it, was his younger brother Alex. The latter is currently playing on the Challenge Tour, which feeds golfers to the DP World Tour. His world ranking is only 705th.
He sounds like a liability, but we already know these two are the type of brothers to work together in harmony, within reason, of course. They are still brothers.
With this weak field of teams, I like the near-even money on the Fitzpatrick brothers to snag a top-20 finish.
Team Matchup
Patrick Cantlay/Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry
Cantlay/Schauffele: -150
McIlroy/Lowry: +125
This is an excellent matchup that could potentially play out closely through the weekend. Many people will see the plus money next to McIlroy, and immediately begin to salivate.
I don’t think so, though. Both he and his partner have been known to pack it in a bit early from time to time, especially when each golfer has a preloaded excuse ready, whether they admit it or not.
They can always just blame the other guy if they don’t win. Why wouldn’t things be the same with the other duo?
This is a personality play. For the same reasons we successfully faded Tommy Fleetwood and Lowry last week, which is why I see this combo struggling at the Zurich Classic. Add in the consistency from week-to-week Schauffele and Cantlay, and we have a bet.
Pick: Cantlay/Schauffele (+150)
Wire-to-Wire Team Win
Cantlay/Schauffele: +2200
McIroy/Lowry: +4000
Zalatoris/Theegala: +6000
Morikawa/Kitayama: +9000
Hojgaard Brothers: +13000
Fitzpatrick Brothers: +15000
I just explained to you guys how McIlroy and Lowry aren't really the consistent types, but I like them at 40-1 here as wire-to-wire winners. Hear me out.
Lowry has proven that on his best day in the worst possible conditions, he is as good as anyone in the world not named Scheffler. McIlroy, at his best, is even better than that. If you are going to make a bet that requires two streaky guys to get hot, you bet on the team with the higher ceiling.
A sprinkle on either or both brother teams isn’t the worst idea.
If these two have packed it in by the weekend, we cash on our matchup bet. We have the most capable couple of guys playing together to take a flyer out on a wire-to-wire winner at the Zurich Classic.
Pick: McIlroy/Lowry (+4000)
