PGA Props Picks: Wells Fargo Championship Predictions
As the vast majority of the world’s best golfers prepare for next week’s PGA Championship at the Valhalla Course down in Georgia, several notable names will be in the field this week at the Wells Fargo Championship because, well, money.
The Queen City of Charlotte, North Carolina, is the 2nd largest banking city in the nation behind, of course, The Big Apple. The total purse for the Wells Fargo Championship is $20 million.
Charlotte has kept its Southern charm even though the city has been one of the fastest-growing in the country over the past 2 decades. Quail Hollow is about as classic of a Carolina golf course as you will find on the PGA Tour. Fairways are narrow and tree-lined but rather straight, while golfers will have to fade and hook their way around the dog legs as they approach the greens.
Denver Colorado's Wyndham Clark will be defending his crown this year, and many cappers have faith in him to possibly do it again. If you were wondering, Scottie Scheffler will not be in the field this week. I'm betting on that guy to win every single tournament he plays for the foreseeable future.
Rory McIlroy is the betting favorite, and rightfully so. He is playing hot right now as well, having won the Zurich Classic a couple of weeks ago while paired up with Shane Lowry, who will also be in the field this week.
More on McIlroy and Clark in a moment. Today, I wanted to share with you guys some fun prop bets and predictions for the Wells Fargo Championship. There are a lot of pundits out there already picking winners. As you know, that is very difficult, minus the Mahomes-esque Scheffler hack.

Sungjae Im (-115) vs Stephan Jaeger (-105)
Spread
Sungjae Im: -1.5 (+117)
Stephan Jaeger: +1.5 (-150)
We faded South Korea's Sungjae Im last week against one of his countrymen, and it paid. However, he has quietly been playing quite well recently. Over the past 8 events, his shots gained off the tee are tops for any golfer in this week's field at the Wells Fargo Championship.
We mentioned that he was coming off of a win in his home country the week prior and the travel might bite him. He withdrew in the first round citing illness. Maybe it was the green apple two-step, but it wasn't an injury. I expect him to play quite well this week.
He is only (-115) to outplay Munich, Germany’s Stephan Jaeger this weekend. The University of Chatanooga’s Jaeger missed the cut in his first two Wells Fargo starts, but he has shown improvement with 6th and 27th place finishes most recently.
Im is a much more talented golfer, and he has steadily been increasing his level of play in 2024. Give me the South Korean chubster to put his back into it and own the German off the tee.
Pick: Sungjae Im (-115)
Rory McIlroy (-127) vs Xander Schauffele (+106)
Spread
Rory McIlroy: -1.5 (+102)
Xander Schauffele: +1.5 (-133)
We mentioned McIlroy a moment ago. I absolutely love the way he is swinging his club at the moment. And if he continues to putt at such a high level, the Nothern Irishman may get the W at Quail Hollow this week.
He has finishes of 2nd, 10th, 8th, 1st, 4th, 16th, 8th, 1st, and 5th in his previous 10 starts at the Wells Fargo Championship. Also, from a psychological perspective, he may have a new fire lit under him seeing Scheffler dominate the PGA Tour the way he has.
On the other side, San Diego's Xander Schauffele was the runner-up here last year and finished 14th in 2021. Other than that, though, he has finishes of 72nd and 24th in his only other starts at Quail Hollow.
I will take experience, form, course fit, and course history over SoCal’s Schauffele. Stay away from the spread, though, because the golfer we are betting against is still one of the world’s best.
Pick: Rory McIlroy (-127)
Top 20 Finish Parlay
Rory McIlroy/Sahith Theegala/Wyndham Clark: +400
We mentioned Wyndham Clark already. He is playing some of the best golf of his career and is in his prime at the age of 30. The aforementioned Sheffler has stolen several wins from Clark in 2024. And, thankfully, that savage is resting up for the PGA Championship next week.
We are already on McIlroy. That leaves Sahith Theegala, who doesn't have the most experience at Quail Hollow, but his style of play, along with his propensity to play well on the slightly bigger stages, has me thinking he can squeak out a top-20 performance.
