PGA Props Picks: Waste Management at Phoenix Open Predictions
Let's get the party started! Yes, on a smaller scale, it is Super Bowl LVIII week, but more importantly, the PGA Tour makes its yearly stop in the ritzy town of Scottsdale, Arizona.
You think I'm kidding? The Waste Management Phoenix Open is a unique experience for fans watching at home, especially for those who made the journey, bought the tickets, and now they get their own "12th man" experience, if you will, as they rock the grandstands rooting on their favorite golfers.
The PGA Tour keeps adding cool fan experiences at the Phoenix Open, and they have said they want it to be more of a family affair. Good luck telling that to Todd and Chad as they will be on their 16th beer by the late afternoon as players attempt to compete through the noise on the iconic 16th hole.
There will be plenty of personal prop bets between pals throughout the tournament. However, since we are stuck at home in the cold, let’s find some fun bets at the online sportsbooks for you and your friends.

Matchup
Sam Burns vs Jordan Spieth
Moneyline
Burns: +100
Spieth: -120
Stroke Spread
Burns: -1.5 (-130)
Spieth: +1.5 (+110)
This is partially a fade on Jordan Spieth, but don’t get mad at me if he wins the tourney by 5 strokes. The man is a model of inconsistency.
Sam Burns is coming off of a 10th-place finish last week at Pebble Beach, and, prior to that, he snagged 6th at the American Express at PGA West, a course quite similar to the one we will see this weekend in Scottsdale.
Burns finished 6th here last year. I love his work on Bermudagrass, which is by far his best playing surface. This one could come down to one stroke. So, let’s not get greedy and take Burns on the moneyline at (+100).
PGA Parlay with the Super Bowl
Christian McCaffrey to Score First TD and Scottie Scheffler to Lead After the First Round: +4500
This isn’t the thickest of fields, but the course is challenging. It is under these circumstances that I don’t mind betting on the best. You usually lose value when you do this, but not this week! Let’s take the betting favorite to lead after the first round and sync him up in a cross-sport parlay with the Super Bowl.
The San Francisco 49ers' Christian McCaffrey is the best running back in the NFL, and he could very well end up the MVP of Super Bowl VIII. If he somehow scores first, and Scottie Scheffler has done his job on Thursday, you will have that much more money to play with for your favorite Taylor Swift prop bet.
Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas to Finish in the Top 20: -120
It has been quite a while, nearly two years, in fact, since Justin Thomas won a tournament on the PGA Tour. It hasn’t, however, been ages since he has come close. Over his previous 4 starts, Thomas has 4 top finishes inside the top 6.
He has finished inside the top 20 in his previous 6 appearances at the Phoenix Open, with 3 of those victories inside the top 4. That's a lot of numbers for you but he is one of the best, he is in form, and he has the course history to perform at a high level this week.
That brings us to the two-time defending Waste Management Phoenix Open winner, Mr. Scheffler. If he can put together a couple more dominant years, people are going to begin the talk that he is the best thing since Tiger Woods.
The Texan is a special golfer. There is no question. The guy finished outside the top 20 once in all of 2023, and that was just one stroke away in 31st.
I love the value here on the near-even money for these two to finish inside the top 20.
