PGA Props Picks: Genesis Invitational Predictions
We are coming off of a much-needed bounce-back weekend at the Phoenix Open. We were on Sam Burns to outplay Jordan Spieth as the even-money underdog at (+100). Both men played quite well, finishing inside the top 6, however, our guy Burns wrapped up the weekend 4 shots ahead.
We also had a parlay of sorts with Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas to both snag top 20s for the tournament at an affordable (-120). Scheffler was 3rd, while the returning-to-form Thomas slid in at 12th for the tournament.
Ultimately, our 45-1 longshot bet didn't hit, but we had half of it as Christian McCaffrey did score the first touchdown of Super Bowl LVIII. We needed the aforementioned Scheffler to lead after the first round, but Thursday was his worst day.
This week, we are playing at the famous championship course, The Riviera Golf Club, in Los Angeles. The Genesis Open will be the final event of the PGA Tour's West Coast Swing and will feature some of the best, including Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, and the GOAT himself, Tiger Woods, is set to make his return this week in LA.
We have a prop bet for Woods also today. Let’s get to it!

Top American
Scottie Scheffler: +450
Xander Schauffele: +1000
Justin Thomas: +1000
Patrick Cantlay: +1100
Collin Morikawa: +1100
Max Homa: +1200
We have mentioned Scheffler's name several times already, and he should always be the favorite with the way he has played over the last couple of years. What stinks for us is that the value has been sucked out of his betting line.
We mentioned Thomas, as well, and I like him here along with local boy, Max Homa. The Burbank-born Homa is in his prime at 33 years old and plays some of his best golf at The Riviera.
With finishes of 5th, 1st, 10th, and 2nd over the past 4 years, I don't know how you don't pick him. He is coming off a missed cut last week in Phoenix, but it's fairly safe to assume that he was looking ahead to this week on a course like The Riviera, where he thrives.
All of these guys are exceptional. However, looking at the past few years, you have to pick Homa.
Pick: Homa (+1200)
Sahith Theegala Top 20: +140
Sahith Theegala is another SoCal guy. He attended the prestigious Pepperdine University in nearby Malibu. The 26-year-old is playing the best golf of his young career over the past 7 months.
He has finishes of 13th, 15th, 1st, 19th, 2nd, 20th, and 5th over his past 10 tournaments.
How has he done at The Riviera, though? He has only had three starts here, but after disappointing finishes of 48th and 49th, he managed 6th last year.
For this price, we have to take a shot on Theegala because of his recent form alone.
Pick: Theegala Top 20 (+140)
Matchups
Tiger Woods (+152) vs Charley Hoffman (-184)
Woods is back! Well, that’s the word so far. It’s Tuesday now. So, we still have a couple of days if he decides to pull out. I think he has had his sights set on The Riviera all along, though.
Woods is still hitting the ball well off the tee, and that's what this course calls for with its long and narrow fairways.
Guys, all the props I saw for Woods seemed like traps. Maybe this one is too. But while Charley Hoffman did lose out in a playoff last week, indicative of his good form against Woods' layoff, he hasn't put together two solid weeks in a row in a long time.
Coming back and coming so close as he did at the Phoenix Open, I would imagine the 47-year-old had maybe more than a few cold ones on Sunday night. Hopefully, he’s still lit.
I lost count how many times Hoffman missed the cut over the past year, but it was about 80% of the time. He has two top 20s, and they were in some of the weakest fields on the Tour.
Woods may take a minute to get dialed in, but he will be the younger and obviously better golfer with the far better odds.
Pick: Woods (+152)
Will Zalatoris (+112) vs Si Woo Kim (-130)
Generally, I don’t like betting against Korean golfers. They are very technical and even more consistent.
I was stationed in South Korea in the Air Force, and our base wasn't even that big, but the Koreans had 5, yes 5, golf courses on a 1.5 square mile military installation.
As for Si Woo Kim, outside of a fringe 3rd place finish here in 2019, he has 7 finishes outside the top 36, including an abysmal 5 missed cuts over the past 8 years.
Young Will Zallatoris has finishes of 15th, 26th, and 4th at the Genesis Invitational over the past 3 years. We are getting a good price on him here because he is still “returning” from an injury, surgery, and rehab.
He has been smart, though, not playing every week. He has finishes of 34th, 13th, and 20th over his previous 4 starts.
Give me the plus money on the more talented golfer heading into his late 20s, hoping to play the best golf of his career soon as a healthy athlete.
Pick: Zalatoris (+112)
