The PGA is taking the week off, but many of the world's best golfers are not. Sixty of the world's best will be vying for a coveted gold medal at Le Golf Nacional in the beautiful French capital of Paris.

If the name of this course rings a bell, it may be because this is where the 2018 Ryder Cup was played. The Europeans beat the Americans 17 ½ to 10 ½. Strangely enough, there is a grand total of zero Americans from that team playing in this week's Olympic field.

One of the keys to that victory was Brit Tommy Fleetwood. He is, in fact, among those competing this week, and I love a play on him this week. He is 20-1 to win gold.

That will prove incredibly difficult, though, with the likes of the gold medal winner from 2021, Xander Schauffele, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, the Spaniard Jon Rahm, and saving the best for last, New Jersey's Scottie Scheffler.

If you are looking for picks to win the tournament outright, Scheffler and Fleetwood aren’t bad plays. Picking winners in golf is highly difficult, And whether you make money or not, you lose much more than you win.

Viktor Hovland (+108) vs Tommy Fleetwood (-129)

I guess I gave away this first one already. Fleetwood is a popular pick to win a medal here potentially. The hype is real, though. This guy steps up in big moments, especially when representing his country.

With the Americans potentially winning multiple medals, you know Fleetwood is fired up. He has the course history. He is in great form this year, playing some of the most consistent golf of his career. It feels like we have seen a maturity boost from him.

On the other side of this matchup bet, Viktor Hovland will be bearing the flag of his home country of Norway. The 26-year-old finished a respectable 14th in the 2021 Olympics.

He is every bit as talented as Fleetwood. However, his current form is lacking. Hovland has only played twice in the past 6 weeks and has missed the cut in two of his previous four starts.

Fleetwood: -1.5 (+102)

The spread would be tempting if we were on the Hovland side, but I don’t want to lay a stroke and a half just for .30 cents.

Top 10 Finish Parlay

Scottie Scheffler/Jon Rahm: +125

Rahm is coming off his first win in some time this past weekend at the LIV Golf UK event. He hasn't been playing that badly this year. He is just not his usual self. Maybe he needed the confidence boost.

The men's Olympic golf event in 2024 is quite top-heavy. That is one reason I love a play on Rahm here to play his way into the top ten. Most experts are saying that there are really only about 15 golfers who have realistic shots at a gold medal.

Rahm is in the top five of that group and atop that hill is, of course, Scheffler. The course is designed for his style to dominate as well.

Top 20 Finish Parlay

Xander Schauffele/Ludvig Aberg: +125

San Diego’s Schauffele has never been better. After winning the first major of his career, he is closing the gap, albeit slowly and slightly, between him and the aforementioned Scheffler as the best golfer in the USA and potentially the world.

On his own, he is (-650) to finish inside the top 20.

Sweden's Ludvig Aberg is still coming into his own on the PGA Tour. At just 24 years of age, the Eslov native is ranked #4 in the official world golf rankings. This ranking doesn't include the LIV golfers but remains indicative of the young man's performance on the Tour in just two years.

He did miss the cut a couple of weeks ago at The Open, but those were nasty conditions and it just gave him a couple of extra days to prepare for his Olympic debut. Aberg finished 2nd at The Masters. Let's hope he can manage a top-20 finish in a much lighter field in terms of skill.
