NHL Totals Betting Advice: Hot and Cold Over and Under Teams 4/4/2024
With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, time is running out for you to be able to take advantage of the established trends and performance ATS or regarding the game total. With about seven games remaining on the schedule, the New York Rangers sit atop the league with 106 points, while the red-hot Dallas Stars are on their heels with 105. Vancouver, Colorado, Boston, and Carolina all have 100 or more points on the season and have all clinched a playoff spot already. The Eastern Conference Wild Card race is sure to be a good one, as Washington clings to the last spot thanks to a tiebreaker with Detroit, a one-point lead over the Islanders, and a three-point lead over Pittsburgh. Without further ado, let’s get into the trends regarding the game total over the teams’ last 10 games.

Over
New York Rangers 9-1
The Rangers offense has been a wagon over the last 10 games, while the goaltending has been… good enough. The Rangers have gone 8-2 for the over their last 10 games as the offense has averaged 4.6 GF/G, scoring at least four in every win except one. Artemi Panarin has recorded a point in nine of the last 10 games and has totaled 22 during this stretch. As for the goaltending, they have been relaxed a bit more thanks to the offensive outburst and have allowed 3.5 GA/G. Over the last 10 games, there has been an average of over eight goals for the Rangers and their opponents. If the offense continues, the Rangers may not see the south side of the game total again this year.
Ottawa Senators 7-3
This stretch of 10 games for the Senators has been great and then really bad. The offense overall has done well as it has all season. Over the last 10 games, the offense has averaged 3.1 GF/G, but the frequent overs have been fueled by their subpar goaltending. Anton Forsberg and Joonas Korpisalo have combined to allow 3.3 GA/G. Brady Tkachuk has tallied 14 points over this 10-game stretch. Overall, Ottawa has hit the over in 39 of their 74 games this season.
Pittsburgh Penguins 7-3
Aside from their last two games, the Penguins have hit the over thanks to poor goaltending. Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic have allowed 3.6 GA/G over the last 10 games. Taking away the last two games, the Penguins had lost four of the five overs. Through the first eight games of this stretch, the offense had mustered just 3.0 GF/G. They have since followed that up with 11 goals in their last two games and successfully hit the over in both. Overall, and supported by their lack of success in high scoring games, the Penguins have seen the over hit in 32 of their 75 games this season, which is the eighth lowest amount in the NHL.
Under
Vancouver Canucks 2-7-1
The Canucks have been without Thatcher Demko for the last 10 contests, but the goaltending is holding up, for the most part. In his absence, Casey DeSmith has started eight games in this stretch, while now backup Arturs Silovs has two starts. Not only is Demko out, but the offense has grown ice cold since March 9. Over the last 10 games, the offense has notched just 2.6 GF/G, scoring more than three goals in just two games. On the other hand, DeSmith and Silovs have contributed to the frequent under game totals. DeSmith has allowed just 2.88 GA/G in his eight starts, while Silovs has allowed just three goals in his two starts. Overall, the Canucks have hit the under in 34 of their 76 games.
Carolina Hurricanes 3-7
When Carolina is hitting the under, they are playing their brand of hockey. The Hurricanes are 6-1 in the seven games that saw the south side of the game total. The netminding has been elite, as Carolina has had two different goalies combine for three shutout performances and have only allowed more than three goals three times in this stretch. Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov have combined to allow just 2.1 GA/G during the stretch, with Andersen and Kochetkov going back-to-back with shutouts. The offense has also been elite averaging 3.9 GF/G, but thanks to Andersen and Kochetkov the under usually means the win. Overall, Carolina has hit the under in 43 of their 75 games this season.
Minnesota Wild 3-7
Unfortunately for the Wild, their playoff hopes seem to be diminishing as they are eight points out of the last wild card spot with only eight games remaining. The offense has been incredibly inconsistent down the stretch, and the strong goaltending has failed to bail them out. Over the last 10 games, the offense is averaging just 2.7 GF/G. Meanwhile, their goaltending has done a total 180-turn this season and has played at a high level, allowing just 3.2 GA/G and has had two shutouts during the current 10 game stretch. Minnesota has collected points in nine of these 10 games, but it seems to be too little too late for the Wild to extend their season. Overall, Minnesota has hit the under in 36 of their 74 games this season.
