NHL Totals Betting Advice: Hot and Cold Over and Under Teams 3/7/2024
Once more, it is time to see who the moneymakers are in respect to the game totals over the team’s last 10 games. With the trade deadline just a day away, teams are going to need to assess whether or not to add offensive firepower or goaltending sturdiness to improve their teams and make a run to the playoffs. So, with that being stated, it is good to do some more research for game total decisions over the next week or so, because some of these streaks may change depending on who is added or subtracted as we head into the weekend.
Doc’s Sports offers NHL expert picks for every game on our hockey predictions page.
Over
Vegas Golden Knights 8-2
Vegas has seen the over hit in 11 of their last 16 games, including eight over their last 10. Vegas has put together just two wins in their last 10 games, with the over seemingly providing a huge correlation with a loss. Adin Hill and Logan Thompson have struggled mightily at one of the worst times to get cold. In six starts over this 10-game stretch, Hill has gone 1-5 and has allowed 26 goals. As for Thompson, he is 1-2-1 in his four starts and has allowed 18 goals. Overall, Vegas is not a solid pick for either side of the game total, as they have hit the over in just 30 of their 62 games this season.
Washington Capitals 8-2
For a team that couldn’t score earlier this season, it is a surprise to see them on this list hitting the over in 80% of their last 10 contests. The Caps have averaged 3.7 GF/G over this stretch, which is exponentially better than their 2.62 GF/G season average, which ranks 30th in the NHL. Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin are the only two on the roster to record more than 40 points on the year, but the production has been balanced over the past stretch. It does help their over chances when Charlie Lindgren and Darcey Kuemper have combined to allow 3.8 GA/G during the same stretch. Overall, Washington has hit the over in less than 50% of their games. And for a team that is selling, the offense will only get worse.
Arizona Coyotes 7-1-2
To understand the world collapse is to understand the Arizona Coyotes performance throughout this campaign. In the first half of the year, they were pushing for a wild card, now they are back to being one of the worst teams in the NHL. Though they did manage to tally five goals in each of their first two games in March, the over has been because of terrible netminding, not a strong offense. Over the last 10 games, the Coyotes have allowed 4.3 GA/G and now rank 23rd in the category in the league rankings. Overall, the Coyotes have been a good team to choose for hitting the over, as the over has hit in 34 of their 68 games, which is the 5th most in the NHL.
Honorable Mention: Winnipeg Jets 7-2-1
Despite all the off-ice noise, lack of fans, and the cloud of second half despair over their heads, Winnipeg has picked up 18 of 24 points across their last 12 contests. The offense has been on fire and has averaged 3.8 GF/G, while Connor Hellebuyck has been struggling a bit, allowing 24 goals in his last seven starts.
Honorable Mention: Calgary Flames 7-3
Despite all the deals, Calgary has been a wagon over the last two weeks. They have won five of their last six contests and nine of their last 13. The offense has been much improved over the last collection of games, as they have averaged 3.3 GF/G, which is better than their 3.07 GF/G mark on the season.
Under
Carolina Hurricanes 2-7-1
Carolina has had a resurgent second half of the season and has done well pacing the Rangers, as they remain just six points behind the division leader, while possessing a comfortable 10-point lead in the guaranteed spot. They have done so with improved netminding, while the skaters tire out the opposition and catch them sleeping. The Hurricanes have allowed just 2.3 GA/G over the last 10 games. Overall, Carolina has hit the over in 33 of their 61 games this season, which ranks eight in the league standings.
Los Angeles Kings 2-7-1
Similarly to the Hurricanes, the Kings are a near playoff lock as they get the job done with strong goalie performance and an offense that finds the opposition napping. The Kings have been a really inconsistent team as the season has progressed, but they have three 5-1 wins over the last 10 games. Over the course of the stretch, Cam Talbot and David Rittich have allowed just 24 goals, and the Kings have posted a +7-goal differential during this span, a good indicator that they are playing their game. Overall, the Kings have seen the south side of the game total 36 times, which is tied for the second most in the league behind only the Florida Panthers and tied with the next team on the list.
Buffalo Sabres 3-7
For a team with so much offensive promise heading into the season, Buffalo has severely underperformed and is set to miss the playoffs once again. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is getting a lot of attention and projects to be one of the better goalies in the NHL going forward. Despite the offense not always bailing him out, Luukkonen has allowed just 25 goals over his last 10 consecutive starts. The offense also does their part to allow for the low-scoring games as they have mustered just 2.9 GF/G over the last 10. As mentioned, Buffalo is tied with the Kings for the league’s second highest under mark with 36.
