The Detroit Red Wings have been a cover darling over the last two weeks while the Ottawa Senators continue to make money for those who fade them. Let’s take a deep dive at the league trends over the last 10 games.

ATS
Hot
Detroit Red Wings 10-0
Despite successfully covering in each of their last 10 games, the Red Wings season struggles have continued as they have gone just 4-4-2 overall during this stretch, including a five-game losing streak, but resulted in five straight covers. During their last 10 games, the only game that finished with a multi-goal difference was the Red Wings 4-2 on the road against the Islanders. The other nine games, and 10 of their last 11, were decided by one goal. The Red Wings have had little to no offense all season as they rank 27th in the league in scoring, averaging just 2.57 GF/G. Outside of their top trio of Lucas Raymond (30 points), Alex DeBrincat (23 points), and Dylan Larkin (23 points), there has been no offense, shining light on a huge depth problem in Detroit. Overall, the Red Wings have covered 17 of their 28 games this season and their 60.7% cover rate is tied for the fourth best in the league.
Washington Capitals 8-2
The Washington Capitals continue to be the surprise team in the Eastern Conference as they are atop the conference standings with 40 points through their first 27 games this season. In addition to their hot start, they have been a covering machine as well and their last 10 games have shown no difference. Washington leads the league in scoring as they are the only team in the NHL averaging over 4 GF/G. However, the Capitals are much more than an offensive powerhouse. They also rank seventh in the league in GA/G (2.74) as well as fourth in PK% (83.7%). Connor McMichael and Tom Wilson have scored plenty of goals in Alex Ovechkin’s absence while Dylan Strome ranks inside the Top 10 in the league in assists with 26. Logan Thompson has also been a welcomed addition as he is allowing just 2.48 GA/G this season and has an 11-1-2 record across his 14 appearances this season. Overall, Washington has covered 19 of their 27 games this season and they have a league leading Cover% of 70.3%.
Cold
Ottawa Senators 1-9
It has been a rough three weeks for the Senators as they have lost eight of their last 12 games and have covered just one of their last 10 contests. Their lone cover came in a 3-1 victory over the league’s worst team in the Nashville Predators. Ottawa has struggled to be much more than average this season in large part due to Linus Ullmark not playing to his potential. Ottawa ranks 21st in the league in GA/G and 25th in SV%. Ullmark’s .898 SV% is the worst of his career while his 2.81 GA/G is the second highest mark in his career and highest since the 2018/19 season. Ullmark has covered in just one of his last eight starts. Their offense has depth issues which is also a factor in the Senators inability to keep the game close. Overall, the Senators have covered just 10 of their 27 games this season which is tied for the fourth least amount of covers in the NHL this season.
New York Rangers 2-8
Now the New York Rangers have had a lot of noise going on around their franchise this season, with the Jacob Trouba drama, but their season has been a total failure up to this point. After starting the season 12-4-1 across their first 17 games, the Rangers have since gone 2-8 and they have a -15-goal differential across the 10-game stretch. They have allowed 40 goals over the past 10 games with backup goalie Jonathan Quick allowing 16 of those goals across his last three starts. Outside of the Trouba drama, Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad have also had their names floating about in trade rumors. There seems to be a culture problem for the Rangers, and they have been struggling mightily as a result. Overall, the Rangers have covered just 10 of their 27 games this season which is tied with the Ottawa Senators as the fourth least amount of covers in the NHL this season.
Moneyline
Hot
Los Angeles Kings 8-2
The Kings have been the hottest team in the league over the last two weeks as they have won eight of their last 10 and are currently riding a six-game winning streak. Across their last six games they have a +13-goal differential and have allowed just eight goals. David Rittich has allowed just 2.14 GA/G over his last seven starts, which includes a game where he allowed seven goals against San Jose. If you remove that poor performance against the Sharks, Rittich has allowed just eight goals over his last six starts. The offense has been firing on all cylinders as well during their current winning streak as they have averaged 3.5 GF/G which is much higher than their 3.07 GF/G season mark. Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe have formed quite the duo for the Kings as they have combined for 60 points on the season which is over 25% of the Kings offensive output. Currently the Kings are second in the Pacific Division just two points behind Vegas who just so happens to be the second hottest team in the league.
Vegas Golden Knights 7-2-1
As mentioned, Vegas has been the second hottest team in the league over their past 10 games as they have tallied 15 points out of the 20 possible. Vegas is currently riding a three-game winning streak as they have picked up victories over Edmonton, Anaheim, and Dallas. Jack Eichel has elevated his play this season which has boosted the Golden Knights back to the top of the Pacific Division standings. Eichel has 39 points on the year with nine goals and 30 assists. He is tied for fifth in the league in points and is second in assists. The Knights have been dominating all season long, especially with Adin Hill in the crease. Their 39 points on the season is the second most in the Western Conference and the third most in the league standings.
Cold
Nashville 1-6-3
Nothing has gone right for Nashville this season and it is time for them to throw in the towel and look towards the future. Nashville has won just four times since November and has just seven wins on the season. They are currently riding an eight-game losing streak and have a -13-goal differential over that span. The Predators rank last in scoring as they are averaging just 2.21 GF/G this season while cashing in on only 18.4% of their man advantage opportunities. They also rank 23rd in the league in GA/G as they are allowing 3.17 GA/G, not a good recipe for winning. Nashville is tied with Chicago at the bottom of the league standings. It is time for an overhaul in Nashville.
New York Rangers 2-8
In addition to failing to cover eight of their last 10 games, the Rangers have also gone just 2-8 outright. Aside from Artemi Panarin, the Rangers have had no bright spots around them this season. However, thanks to their strong start to the campaign, they still have 29 points and are just one point outside the final wild card spot and they are the only team in the NHL that is currently outside the playoff picture with a positive goal differential (+5) on the season. The Rangers can still save the season and find their way back to relevancy.
