ATS
Hot
San Jose Sharks 9-1
It is amazing to see the Sharks finally do something worthwhile after such a low point in their franchise. Though they are only 6-10-4 this season, the Sharks have covered in nine of their last 10 games. They have won five games during this stretch, and two of their losses were in shootouts, which guaranteed them the cover. Another significant note for the Sharks success ATS is they covered in all four of their road games during this stretch. Mackenzie Blackwood has done really well between the pipes for San Jose lately, as he is allowing just 2.67 GA/G over his last six starts, which includes a shutout performance against the New Jersey Devils. The Sharks are 7-4 ATS on the road this season and are about to begin a two-game road trip with stops in Dallas and St. Louis. Overall, the San Jose Sharks have the most covers in the league, covering in 13 of their 20 games this season.
Toronto Maple Leafs 8-2
Toronto has continued to keep pace with the Florida Panthers, as they remain just one point behind the defending champs in the Atlantic Division standings. They have gone 7-2-1 over their last 10 games straight up and have covered in eight of those games. Anthony Stolarz continues to elevate the play of this team, as he has allowed just 2.17 GA/G over his last six starts and is 5-1 ATS during that span. His backup, Joseph Woll, has also done well lately, as he has allowed just 2.25 GA/G in his last four starts and is 3-1 ATS. The offense has been lacking in large part due to Auston Matthews’ absence, as the Leafs have averaged just 2.8 GF/G over this 10-game span. Toronto is 8-3 ATS at home this season, and they have five of their next seven games on home ice. Overall, the Toronto Maple Leafs have the second most covers in the league, as they are 12-7 ATS this season.
Cold
Boston Bruins 2-8
Boston is going through a terrible time. They have limped out of the gates, they are on the fringe of the playoff picture, and they have now fired Jim Montgomery just 20 games into the new campaign. Their last three games have been completely brutal to watch, as they were blown out by the Dallas Stars (7-2) and Columbus Blue Jackets (5-1) while also losing at home to the Blues (3-2). Those blowout losses to the Stars and Blue Jackets have one commonality, Jeremy Swayman was in the crease for both games, and these aren’t his first blowout losses. Swayman has been in the net for all six of the Bruins losses that were by three or more goals. The offense has been absolutely non-existent as well over the last 10 games, as they have tallied just 21 goals since Halloween. They rank 31st in the league in GF/G, and they are last in the league with a 11.7% PP%. Their -21-goal differential is the second worst in the league. Overall, the Boston Bruins are just 5-15 ATS this season, which is the worst mark in the NHL.
Detroit Red Wings 3-7
The Red Wings have been dealing with inconsistent performances from their netminders all season, and it has resulted in an incredibly slow start in Detroit. Over the last 10 games, the Red Wings have allowed 3.5 GA/G, including five games where they allowed four or more goals. In all, they have allowed four or more goals in nine of their 18 games this season. The bigger problem for the Red Wings is their lack of offense. Their offense has been unable to bail out their netminders this season, as they rank in the bottom third of the league in goals and have scored just 23 goals over their last 10 games. Aside from Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat (18 goals combined), goals have been hard to come by for the rest of their roster. Overall, the Detroit Red Wings are 7-11 ATS this season.
Moneyline
Hot
Carolina Hurricanes 8-2
After starting the season with a 2-2 record, the Hurricanes have since gone 9-2, with their only other losses coming on the road. The offense has been on fire for Carolina this season, as they are ranked third in the league in GF/G, averaging four a game. They also rank inside the Top 10 in special teams with their PP% ranking eighth and their PK%, ranking fifth. In addition to their skaters dominating performances, their goalies are also playing well, as they have allowed just 2.41 GA/G, which is the third lowest in the NHL. Could a team be anymore complete? Martin Necas is having an incredible season, as he is third in the league with 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists. Behind Necas is a deep roster, as there are nine other Hurricanes players who have reached the double-digit point mark and five other players to have tallied five or more goals. The Hurricanes currently sit in second place of the Metro Division, behind the Washington Capitals.
Winnipeg Jets 8-2
After a historic start to the season, it is no surprise to see the Jets remaining on this list. They sit atop the league standings with 32 points this season, five more than the Washington Capitals and Minnesota Wild, who are both tied with 27 points. The Jets have scored a league high 80 goals this season and have the highest PP% in the league, as they are cashing in on 35.7% of their man advantage opportunities. They also have a goalie named Connor Hellebuyck who is continuing to produce at an elite level, as he is 13-2 this season and has allowed 2.20 GA/G and has a .923 SV%. The Jets are about to set out on a six-game road trip, and eight of their next nine games are on the road, so we will see if the Jets have a little fall from grace over the next two weeks.
Cold
Columbus Blue Jackets 3-7
Though they are coming off a dominant 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in their last game, the Blue Jackets have found themselves back in the basement of the division standings once again. Their goaltending continues to be an issue, as they rank 25th in the league, allowing 3.44 GA/G while ranking 31st in the league with a .885 SV%. The goalie tandem has one significantly weaker link, as backup netminder Daniil Tarasov has struggled this season and is allowing 4.04 GA/G and has an abysmal .861 SV%. The offense has struggled over their last 10 games as well, as they are averaging just 2.5 GF/G. Not a good recipe for winning.
