NFL Week 5 Lookahead Lines: Best Bets and Predictions
Are you sick and tired of checking the NFL betting odds on Monday or Tuesday morning for the upcoming week only to realize that the early birds scarfed up your worm? It’s hard enough to be on the right side of an NFL bet. So, if we can beat some closing line value with a wager on a lookahead line, why not?
The opportunity is there to find positive expected value with lookahead lines. We can capitalize on the markets' recency biases. Sure, there are reliable spots and trends that are directly derived from the previous week. I'm not saying you should abandon them and completely switch your bankroll/betting habits to the lookahead lines. This reminds me of martial arts and students always asking if they should do A or B. Almost every time, the answer is both.
Betting the lookahead lines can be an invaluable learning tool as well.
Sometimes, following the steam pays off or gives us more confidence to increase a bet size. I'm not saying we can't still do that. Let's get ahead of the movement, and from there, it's much more likely that we can play a middle. As long as we bet responsibly, we can use the lookahead lines to our advantage.
This is our first week doing this. Therefore, we will tread lightly.

NFL Week 5 Lookahead Lines Best Bets
Atlanta Falcons (-3)
The Atlanta Falcons are a bit banged up on the offensive line, but not as much as the New Orleans Saints. I have the Dirty Birds to cover the 1-point spread quite easily. What about the Bucs? They host the Eagles, who I believe are still underrated. Even if Tampa hangs tough, though, an Atlanta win will push this line to more than a field goal.
If we want the Falcons, we should act before the Sunday slate.
Indianapolis Colts (+2.5)
This one may be my favorite lookahead best bet of the week. I love the Indianapolis Colts to wear down the Steelers' run defense, keeping TJ and company's weight ever so slightly more on their heels. It's a great matchup for the Colts, and a win over a 3-0 team with potentially the best defense in football will garner any team a ton of attention, even a small market team like Indy.
Honestly, I'm surprised this line isn't over a field goal already. Pardon the partial pun, but Jacksonville is jacked up. The Colts game will probably be tight either way. If the Jags don't show a drastic turnaround this week, these odds could move a couple of points. Take the Colts now.
Green Bay Packers (-3)
A healthy Pack could be the best team in the NFL. The fact they have the same betting odds (20-1) to win the Super Bowl as the Dallas Cowboys is preposterous. There’s a total of nine NFL teams favored to win the big game higher than Green Bay.
Matt LaFleur looks to be the best offensive mind in the game, while the team, especially without Jordan Love, lacks massive star power. Maybe that’s their superpower.
I'm hearing that Love has a shot to play against Minnesota this week, but it doesn't matter. If Green Bay looks bad and loses but Love returns, the Week 5 betting line will inflate to more than a field goal. We already mentioned that LA is likely to have a letdown this week. So, if they lose, this line could get even farther out of hand.
In all likelihood, Love will be back. So take the (-3) now and enjoy a touchdown victory at a "home field" void of any advantage.
