NBA Props Picks: Expert Handicapping for Friday 2/23/2024

Brace yourselves for another big night of NBA action with our carefully chosen prop bets. With a lot of basketball to digest and research to be had, we have your back. Our picks went 3-2 last week (14-10 overall) and we will try and improve on that mark this week. There is a full slate of games with 20 teams in action on Friday night. Doc’s Sports will break down some of tonight’s best plays on the hardwood.

Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves, OVER 26.5 points (-115)

We are going to go with a hot hand for our first prop pick in Anthony Edwards and his point total. In his last five games he has tallied 34 and 41 points against the Trail Blazers, 23 against the Clippers, 26 vs. the Bucks, and 38 against the Bulls. Over his last seven games, he has taken at least 18 shot attempts from the floor. In what should be a competitive game against Milwaukee at home, look for Edwards to take advantage against a hit-or-miss Bucks defense (usually miss).

Vince Williams Jr., Memphis Grizzlies, OVER 11.5 points (-130)

Williams has been great for the Grizzlies and this total is disrespectful in my opinion. He has cleared this point total in 12 of his past 13 games while averaging exactly 16.0 points per game in that span. Throughout the month of February, he is shooting nearly 50% from the floor and attacking the basket to get to the free throw line. He is shooting a remarkable 85.7% from the charity stripe this month. Look for Williams to clear this total again against the Clippers.

Jalen Johnson, Atlanta Hawks, OVER 18.5 points + assists (-120)

Johnson has a juicy matchup tonight against the Toronto Raptors. The over/under for the game is set at 246, so expect a lot of scoring. He enters tonight’s matchup averaging 15.7 points per game and 3.3 assists per contest on the season. Those numbers increased in the month of February averaging 16.1 ppg and 4.0 assists. He has cleared this total in five of his last eight games and now faces a Raptors defense that ranks 28th in the NBA at defending small forwards. Take the over for Johnson.

LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers, OVER 7.5 assists

The Lakers have a great matchup against a San Antonio defense that is subpar. The Spurs rank 25th in the NBA in scoring defense and assists allowed per game. James has been dealing with a bum ankle that should limit his explosiveness. He is averaging 8.8 assists over his past 10 games and has gone over tonight’s line in six of those contests. In his last two games against the Spurs, LeBron has registered 11 and 14 assists. I am looking for the Lakers to put up a ton of points in tonight’s matchup and for King James to dish the rock to his teammates at a high pace.

Anfernee Simons, Portland Trail Blazers, OVER 24.5 points (-105)

Simons heads into tonight’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets averaging 22.9 points per game on the year. The Trail Blazers and Nuggets have played twice so far this season, with both games being played at Denver. The Nuggets won both contests, but failed to cover the spread both times. Simons put up 29 and 26 points in those two games as the Nuggets struggled to contain the shooting guard. He has hit this over total in five of his last 10 games and has made at least three triples in eight of his last 10 games. Expect a higher shooting percentage on his home court for a favorable position to score 25+ points.
