Hot and Cold NHL Betting Teams: Moneyline and ATS 3/28/2024
Teams have about 10 games remaining in the regular season as we are getting closer to the playoffs. The New York Rangers were the first team to clinch a playoff spot and the first to reach 100 points on the season. Boston and Dallas sit right behind them at 99 points, as the Stars overtook the Canucks in the Western Conference standings, with the two playing tonight in Vancouver. We have only two more weeks to bet on established numbers and trends, so let’s get into the numbers.
Doc’s Sports offers NHL expert picks for every game on our hockey predictions page.
ATS
Hot
St. Louis Blues 8-2
Over the last 10 games, there hasn’t been a hotter team against the spread than the Blues. They have gone 8-2 ATS and have covered in eight straight games, picking up points in seven of their last eight games. The netminding has been much improved, allowing less than four goals in six of their last eight games, while the offense has averaged 3.0 GF/G over the last 10. As a result of this hot streak, the Blues are behind Vegas by six points for the second wild card spot. Overall, the Blues are 43-29 ATS this season, the third best in the NHL.
Dallas Stars 7-3
The Dallas Stars, who just took over the top spot in the Western Conference, are featured as number two on the list, going 7-3 ATS over the last 10 games. Dallas has won 10 of their last 12 games and has won and covered in their last five games. Scott Wedgewood and Jake Oettinger have formed a solid tandem over the last two weeks, as they have allowed just 10 goals in the last five contests. The offense has been clicking as well, averaging 4.17 GF/G over the last 12 games for Dallas. Overall, the Stars are just 30-43 ATS which is the third worst mark in the NHL.
Cold
Anaheim Ducks 2-8
It has been ugly for Anaheim lately. They are only five points ahead of Chicago in the league standings. Since March 8, the club has gone just 1-8-1. The offense has been shut out in four of their last 10 games and has scored just 20 goals as a team in the month of March. Their netminding has been equally bad, as they have allowed 4.2 GA/G during this cold spell. Overall, the Ducks are just 36-36 ATS. However, the way their season has trending, fading Anaheim might be a good play.
New York Islanders 3-7
The other team who seemingly can’t cover is the New York Islanders. The Isles have nearly fallen out of the playoff race thanks to a terrible two weeks. They have just three points over their last eight games and have been shut out three times. Ilya Sorokin has struggled mightily over this stretch of games and has allowed 26 goals over his last six starts. They are set to begin a three-game road trip against three playoff teams, so the cold spell may extend. Overall, the Islanders are 34-37 ATS this season.
Moneyline
Hot
Colorado Avalanche 9-1
The Central Division is the hottest division in hockey right now. The Avalanche have won nine of their last 10 games and has kept the division title race close with Dallas and Winnipeg. The offense had been hot up until their last game. Before their previous 2-1 loss to Montreal on Tuesday, the Colorado offense had scored 42 goals over the course of their nine-game win streak. They have Edmonton twice, the Rangers, Nashville, Dallas, and Winnipeg all remaining on the schedule, but Colorado is peaking at the right time.
Nashville Predators 8-2
There has been no hotter team in the NHL than the Predators, who have stormed into the playoff picture and look to have the first wild card spot firmly in their control. They are in the midst of a 18-game point streak and have won their last six games. Juuse Saros has returned to dominant form and has allowed just nine goals in his last five starts, while the offense has averaged 3.7 GF/G over the last 10 games. No one wants to play Nashville right now, and the Preds have transformed themselves into a wagon.
Cold
Anaheim Ducks 1-9
No need to get into the weeds again. The Ducks are just not there and are a great team to fade night in and night out.
San Jose Sharks 1-9
It’s no surprise to see the NHL’s worst team in the league return to this list. Now seven points behind the Chicago Blackhawks, the Sharks seem to have the basement all to themselves. They haven’t won a game since March 9 and have lost nine straight. The goaltending is awful, as Magnus Chrona, Devin Cooley, and Mackenzie Blackwood have combined to allow 41 goals over the course of their nine-game losing streak.
