ATS
Hot
Kansas City Royals 8-2
The Royals have been one of the surprise teams early on in the season. They are 19-13 overall and sit 1.5 games behind the Guardians in the AL Central. Their +50-run differential is the best mark in the league, while their 12 home wins is tied for the MLB lead with Baltimore. Not only that, but they are playing well against the spread, having covered in 21 of their 32 games. Bobby Witt Jr. is having an MVP caliber season, while Salvador Perez is having a resurgent year, as the two have combined for a 3.9 WAR and are responsible for 32% of the team’s offensive production. On the flip side, their starting rotation has a combined 2.92 ERA, while James McArthur and John Schreiber have combined for a 1.63 ERA across 28 innings out of the bullpen. Kansas City is a team to watch going forward.
1) Chicago Cubs 23-11
2) Cleveland Guardians 21-10
3) Kansas City Royals 21-11
Cold
Toronto Blue Jays 2-8
The struggle is real for the Blue Jays after failing to cover in eight of their last 10 games and losing seven of their last nine games outright. The offense has struggled mightily to start the season, as they have averaged just 2.8 runs per game over their last 10 contests. Overall, they rank 26th in runs scored and 21st in OPS. Not one Blue Jay on the roster is hitting over .300. Chris Bassitt and Kevin Gausman are also off to slow starts, with both pitchers posting ERAs over 4.50, and both have negative WAR numbers. If you want to talk about the bullpen as well, then you may get the entirety of this ugly situation in Toronto. The Blue Jays desperately need an offensive spark, or they may end up as one of the worst teams in the AL. Unfortunately for them, eight of their next 11 games are on the road, and eight of those contests are against playoff teams.
1) Miami Marlins 10-24
2) Tampa Bay Rays 12-21
3) Houston Astros 12-20
Over
Chicago White Sox 7-3
The White Sox have the most Overs in the MLB out of the last 10 games. Is it a positive? Not entirely. In their three-game sweep over the Rays, they totaled 21 runs, however, that has quickly changed, and they are back to struggling at the plate. A lot of the high run totals can be attributed to their abysmal pitching staff. Erick Fedde is the only White Sox pitcher that has eclipsed seven innings, that has a sub 3.00 ERA. Again, outside of Fedde, the starting rotation has combined for a 5.12 ERA. Their 1.47 WHIP ranks 29th in the league while also totaling the fourth most walks at 126 free bases, through 31 games. Their offense is too bad for this trend to continue, but it was a good time to highlight their pitching woes.
1) Milwaukee Brewers 19-12
2) Tampa Bay Rays 19-14
3) Miami Marlins 19-15
Under
Seattle Mariners 0-10
Low scoring games is the recipe for success with Seattle. They lead the MLB with 23 Unders, while they have won seven of their last 10 contests and have shot up the division standings and now lead the Rangers by half a game. The offense has been wildly unproductive despite having some favorable names in their lineup night in and night out, but the pitching staff has been unbelievable. Logan Gilbert and Bryce Miller have been dominating the opposition. Gilbert has a 2.03 ERA with five quality starts so far this season, while Miller has a 2.04 ERA with four quality starts. Their bullpen has been reliable as well, posting a 2.68 ERA. If this lineup can wake up a bit, Seattle may be one of the best teams in the league.
1) Seattle Mariners 7-23-1
2) Toronto Blue Jays 13-21
3) Chicago Cubs 14-20
Moneyline
Hot
Minnesota Twins 10-0
There has been no hotter team in baseball than the Minnesota Twins. To be fair, their last 10 games included seven against the White Sox and three against the Angels. The Twins offense has been incredibly productive and scored five or more runs in nine of their last 10. Though they are set for tougher competition in the coming days, if the lineup stays this hot, they will continue to climb their way up the division standings.
Cold
Tampa Bay Rays 2-8
As for the Tampa Bay Rays, they have been one of the disappointing teams so far. Their -43 run differential is the second worst in the American League, and they sit in the basement in the AL East standings. Randy Arozarena has had a terrible year so far and is hitting just .139 with a .455 OPS through his first 115 at-bats this season. Yandy Diaz and Harold Ramirez are right there with Arozarena and have combined for a -0.8 WAR thus far. In one of the toughest divisons in baseball, the Rays lineup needs to get going or it is going to be a long season.
