HOT ATS
Minnesota Golden Gophers
While UConn and Purdue are grabbing the national headlines with their impressive win-loss records (both are a stellar 22-2 so far this season), savvy gamblers have been tickled pink with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who are a decent 15-8 SU but a blistering 20-3 ATS this year. This impressive ATS run includes going 10-2 in Big Ten conference play, 15-1 at home, and 10-2 as an underdog. They're doing it on the offensive side (76.1 ppg, 88th in the nation) and defensively as well (68.6 ppg, 74th in the country). While they have eight games remaining, they're on pace to crush the modern ATS record of 25-7-1 (78.1) set by Wichita State in 2013-14.
Troy Trojans
The second-best team, in terms of covering percentage, is the Troy Trojans out of the SunBelt. They have a 17-8 SU record (10-2 in conference play for a first-place standing) but sport an impressive 16-5-1 mark against the spread. They have been ruthless as a favorite, going 12-2 ATS, and have taken care of business at home with a 10-1-1 mark. The only situation that they have struggled in is as a road dog, where they're "just" 3-3 on the season. Troy has been very impressive in getting to the foul line, averaging 24.2 free-throw attempts (13th in the country) and 17.5 made free-throws (18th) a game. They have also been very proficient on the offensive glass, hauling in 11.1 offensive rebounds a game. Gamblers will have six more opportunities to make money with the Trojans in the regular season.
The Moneymakers
These are just two of the 13 teams that have better than a 70% cover rate on the season. The remaining teams are Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, South Florida, Richmond, Cal St-Northridge, UT-Arlington, Wisconsin-Green Bay, South Carolina, Morehead State, Eastern Washington, New Mexico, and Iowa State.
Cold ATS
Missouri Tigers
Of course, with all of these winners, there have to be losers as well. In terms of just SU record, it doesn't get any worse than Mississippi Valley State and their 0-24 record. However, their ATS mark of 9-15 is almost twice as good as the toothless Tigers of Pacific and Missouri, who are both 5-19 ATS. Missouri is winless straight-up in the SEC and not much better ATS with a 1-10 record. It must have taken Vegas (or the public) a fairly long time to realize Mizzou liked to burn money, as they sport a 2-12 record ATS as a favorite. They seem to be the exact opposite of Troy. Their opponents are grabbing 37.4 boards a game (302nd in the country). The one area Missouri is adept in is fouling their foes, as they put their opponents on the foul line 22.3 times a game (307th) and watch them make 16.7 (322nd) of those foul shots. This nightmare season can't end soon enough for the Tigers and gamblers have seven more chances to make money from them.
Pacific Tigers
Pacific is a hot mess, with a 6-20 SU record and also winless in the West Coast Conference. Every ATS trend they have is below .500, with their best situation coming in having one day off, where they are 3-4 ATS. They are 3-8 ATS in their conference losses, 2-11 at home. They're equally as bad out of conference, going 2-11 in their non-conference matchups. They rank 300 or worse in six different offensive scoring and shooting statistical categories and seven on the defensive side. Bettors only have five more times to cash tickets against Pacific this season, plus maybe one game in their conference tourney.
Over Crew
Queens University of Charlotte
When it comes to high-scoring games, there are currently six different schools that have had over 70% of their contests sail north of the total mark. The Queens University of Charlotte (10-17 SU 11-12-2 ATS), playing in the ASUN, has the most over games this season, with 19 of their 25 lined games going over. This is both a mixture of a decent scoring offense (77.1 ppg 68th in the country) and one of the worst scoring defenses in the nation (84.1 ppg 358th out of 362). They are currently on a nine-game over streak and have just four games remaining in their regular season.
The other five teams that have a 70%+ over record are Denver, Kentucky, Air Force, Wright State, and Alabama.
Under dwellers
Dartmouth Big Green
Interestingly enough, the list of teams under 30% is half of their over counterparts, with just three schools having very low-scoring contests. The Illinois Illini must have sucked up all of the offense in the state, as both Eastern and Western Illinois have had five of their 21 lined games go over. However, the Dartmouth Big Green (5-15 SU 6-12 ATS) have seen 14 of their 18 games go under the total. To say the Big Green struggles on the offensive side would be an understatement of epic proportion. Their best offensive category is Assists-to-Field Goals Made, where they are ranked 102nd in the nation. They average the third-fewest points per game with 58.2. Defensively speaking, they are in the top 40% of the country, allowing 71.2 ppg. It may be too late to take advantage of this offensive ineptness, as the over is 3-3 over the last six games. But they have seven regular season games and at least one conference tournament game this campaign.
