Free NBA Picks New York Knicks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 11/25/2024
The New York Knicks get set for one of their toughest games this season when they head to Denver to take on the mighty Nuggets. All season long, Doc’s Sports will be breaking down every New York Knicks weekday game while providing the best bets along the way.
The Knicks secured their fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday night, beating the Suns 138-122. New York set a new season-high with their 138-point explosion, as Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 70 points in Phoenix. Brunson went 7/11 from behind the arc while Towns was a big reason why the Knicks collected 60 points in the paint. Their starting five scored an incredible 119 points, as the Knicks continue to prove they have the best starting five in the NBA.

From a betting perspective, we went 1-1. The Knicks had no problem winning the game outright, which cashed our biggest bet of the night. Mikal Bridges was expected to have a big game defensively against his former team, but he fell just one takeaway short of his steals + blocks prop.
The Knicks were confident they could extend their win streak against the lowly Utah Jazz on Saturday night, but they fell short 121-106. New York did many of the little things right, but they were unable to match the Jazz’s red-hot hands from deep. Utah scored 19 triples at a 56% clip, with Colin Sexton leading the way with a 6/8 stat line. New York didn’t play bad basketball, but sometimes the other team gets hot from deep and there was little the Knicks could do to stop that reality.
Tonight, the Knicks (9-7) have a very tough test against the 2023 NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets (9-6). New York is a 4-point underdog against Denver, as this will be just the second time this season New York comes in as an underdog. They were 6-point underdogs against the Celtics on opening night, but ended up losing that game by 23 points.
Denver has been able to shake off their 2-3 start with 7 wins in their last 10 games. Nikola Jokic is playing at a truly unbelievable level, and he just welcomed a new addition to the Jokic family last week. The Serbian superstar missed some time to spend time with his wife and daughter, but he picked up right where he left off on his return. Jokic is averaging 30.3 PPG, 9.5 Assists, and 13.9 rebounds this season. His ability to not only generate his own offense in the post but to set up his teammates, makes him a nightmare assignment for any of the league’s big men. He already has three MVPs in the last four years, and it’s hard to argue he is already the early favorite to take home the award this season.
Karl-Anthony Towns has been able to play good defensive basketball with the Knicks scheme, but he will be truly tested tonight against Jokic. When Towns came to New York, it was clear he would elevate their offense. However, his impact on the defensive end, or lack thereof, was worrying. He has passed the early tests with flying colors, but shutting down Jokic will be a different story. There is no doubt Jokic is capable of leading the Nuggets to another championship, but he will need his teammates to step up around him. Denver is in a very competitive Western Conference, and even the mighty Jokic cannot do it alone. Russell Westbrook has helped fill the void left by the departure of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but Denver needs their starters to step up. Jamal Murray is having the worst season of his career, scoring just 17.6 PPG on 39.8% from the floor. Aaron Gordon is still injured. And with Murray being unable to match his stat lines from previous seasons, the Nuggets are struggling for options.
One stat sums it all up: The Nuggets 125.8 offensive rating with Jokic on the floor would be the best offensive rating of all time, while their 86.3 offensive rating without Jokic would be the worst of all time.
The Knicks depth has been rightfully called into question, but they at least have a full starting five rather than just one monstrous superstar. New York will be rested for this contest and won’t play again until Wednesday night. They have a pretty healthy lineup with Miles McBride expected to return, and they simply do not deserve to be underdogs. Towns has proven he can at the very minimum limit the impact Jokic will have, and the Nuggets are struggling for scorers outside their Serbian superstar. The Knicks bench will struggle, but their starters will win the crucial minutes needed to pick up this victory. Westbrook, Murray, and Christian Braun are nowhere near the level of the Knicks guards. This will give New York a massive advantage on the perimeter. And as long as the Nuggets don't shoot 50%+ from deep like Utah did, New York will pick up the road win. Tell your bookie to keep the points, as New York will upset the Nuggets outright as +150 underdogs.
For the second bet of the night, we will be looking at OG Anunoby and his 1.5 steal line. Anunoby is one of the best pass disruptors in the entire NBA, and he will be feasting tonight in Denver. Murray has been looking to pass the ball more often, and Anunoby does a great job at clogging passing lanes. Additionally, New York has already shown they will happily double-team dominant big men down low. This will allow Anunoby to get involved defensively and easily surpass this line. He has gone over this mark in three consecutive games, and there is no reason to expect his minutes or steals to dip in this high stakes showdown.
Pick: New York Knicks Moneyline +150 4 Units
Pick: OG Anunoby Over 1.5 Steals -120 3 Units
