It's officially Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season. Handicappers and recreational bettors alike have had months to make their Week 1 picks. I have some spots I like with the point spread given by the sportsbooks. However, betting on the NFL isn't easy, and those point spreads have been the death of many good men.

Today, I want to share with you guys, a basic strategy teaser bet for Week 1 in the NFL.

What is a Teaser?

A teaser is a type of parlay wager where the bettor can manipulate the betting lines in their favor. This reduces the payout, of course. Normally, parlaying two teams, each with betting odds of (-110 would yield a payout of (+264). With a 6-point teaser, for example, the payout is reduced to (-120).

What is the Basic Strategy Teaser?

You are probably used to NFL betting and getting paid out at (-110). So, (-120) isn’t that far away. You’re probably already thinking about which games this week you could tease. Hold that though for one moment. A basic strategy teaser is a 6-point NFL teaser that moves through the key numbers of 3, 4, 7, and 6. More games end with a point differential of 3 than any other. The second most is 7 and then 6 points.

The basic strategy is to find betting favorites of (-7.5) to (-8.5) and tease them down to favorites of only (-2.5) to (-1.5). If you want to tease an underdog, look for teams with odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5) and tease them up to bigger dogs of (+7.5) to (+8.5).

Potential Week 1 NFL Games to Tease

Green Bay Packers (+2.5) vs Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5)

The first game we can add to our basic strategy teaser is between the Eagles and Packers from Brazil. This is a high-variance game with it being overseas, particularly in a third-world country, a place the NFL has yet to visit.

The team we would target here is the Packers. We could tease them up to underdogs of (+8.5). That sounds like a fairly secure position, but there may be better spots below.

Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) @ New York Giants (+1.5)

The underdog is the target again here with the home New York Giants. We still don't know what to expect from Minnesota in 2024. Most experts have the team regressing, but how much? I will be honest. I did pick the Giants for this teaser but have recently backed out on it for a team, who doesn't have a bottom-3 worst roster in the NFL.

New England Patriots (+7.5) @ Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)

Ah, yes. As I was saying, the Cincinnati Bengals don’t have one of the worst 3 rosters in all of football. Their opponent on Sunday, however, does.

The New England Patriots are starting Jacoby Brissett over Drake Maye in Week 1. That helps them, but it also brought the betting line down.

The Bengals are the better team. We need them to win by 2 or more points and we have half of our Week 1 basic strategy NFL teaser.

Houston Texans (-2.5) @ Indianapolis Colts (+2.5)

I'm seeing a considerable amount of Week 1 love for the Indianapolis Colts here as division home dogs to the Texans. Along with maybe the Chicago Bears, Houston won the offseason with the moves they made. Indy plays almost everyone tough, especially division opponents, but I'm not betting against C.J. Stroud in Week 1.

Dallas Cowboys (+2) @ Cleveland Browns (-2)

The Dallas Cowboys are 2-point underdogs on the road against the Browns. The former has received a lot of hate in the offseason, some warranted and some not. It's Cleveland fans and bettors, however, who should be screaming. The move for Deshaun Watson AFTER his scandal came out was low class at the least, and I'm happy it hasn't worked out for them. He looked like crap last season. That's all we have to go on because it's the most he's played in years.

Dallas usually starts the season hot. The Browns are without Nick Chubb. CeeDee Lamb recently signed. I like the Cowboys here. The worst-case scenario is a 20-10 loss where Dak Prescott couldn't even get them down the field for a field goal in the final 5 minutes. That isn't something we are used to seeing in situations like this.
