It has been one of the most unpredictable World Cup showings in recent memory and is heading towards what should be a thrilling conclusion. Spain, Sweden, England, and Australia have all survived some intense moments to reach the semis. Spain is set to take on Sweden on Tuesday, while Australia, the co-hosts, take on England Wednesday morning. With all four teams salivating for a chance to take home the trophy to their home countries, we will look at the best bets for the rest of the Women’s World Cup below.

Spain has historically struggled to make any sort of impact on the world stage, never winning a major trophy and only appearing twice in the World Cup prior to 2023. However, Spain has played some attractive soccer, dominating possession and scoring the most goals with 15 while boasting a goal differential of +9. Players such as Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, Jenni Hermoso, and Irene Paredes have led the way with Bonmati and Hermoso both scoring three goals a piece in the tournament.

Sweden has established themselves as one of the top teams in Europe and the world. They reached the semifinals of the EURO, losing to the eventual champions England. They secured a second-place finish in the Olympic Games and finished third in the previous World Cup. Sweden ranks fifth in this year’s World Cup with a total of 11 goals and knocked off USA, the favorites to win it all. Amanda Ilestedt has been the best player for Sweden up to this point, netting four goals. Fridolina Rolfo has added two goals, while Sofia Jakobsson and Jonna Andersson have dished out two assists each.

Sweden should be on cloud nine right now and just radiating confidence. Despite being underdogs, this team has the edge with experience on bright stages and took out the favorites to win this year’s Women’s World Cup. Spain played extra time in the previous round and could show signs of fatigue. In head-to-head matchups, Sweden holds a 7-4-0 advantage over Spain.

Australia vs England Odds

Australia +220 – England +135 – Draw +200

Co-hosts Australia will face England in the semifinal of the 2023 Women’s World Cup with a spot in the finals on the line. Neither team has ever made a World Cup Final in the tournament’s history, so this will be a historic win for whoever advances. Australia has defeated France, Denmark, and Canada in their last three games, while goalie Mackenzie Arnold and the defense did not surrender a single goal in those contests. Hayley Raso leads the way with three goals and Steph Catley has chipped in two.

England also reached the semifinals in 2015 and 2019, only to finish third and fourth and never reach the Women’s World Cup final. They defeated China 6-1, won on penalties in a 0-0 contest against Nigeria, and then defeated Colombia 2-1 to set up this match against Australia. Besides the China thumping, every game has been a grind for England. Lauren James leads the way for England with three goals while Alessia Russo and Lauren Hemp have chipped in two goals each.

With the home crowd behind them, I expect Australia to stay in this game until the very end. Unfortunately, I think their magical run ends here. England is the more experienced and talented bunch on the field. They should have what it takes to win a close contest and advance to the finals.

For the finals, I am taking a stab at England versus Sweden to take home the trophy. Right now, the odds of naming these two finalists are at +280. I would lean on England to beat Sweden in the finals as they are the stronger team overall. England to win the 2023 Women’s World Cup is currently at +155.
