As we head into Week 10 of the College Football season, I will use my thorough knowledge of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers to bring you insightful, but more importantly, profitable, information on CCU’s current contest. We will dive into the analysis and to maximize our return on investment, we will be utilizing Doc’s trust “Unit Betting System.”

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Report

The Chanticleers return to the road this weekend with a trip to Old Dominion for their final Sunbelt road trip of the regular season. Grayson McCall has still not cleared concussion protocol this week, and that means Jarrett Guest will make his second career start in the college landscape. He had a career day in his first start last weekend that resulted in a 34-6 win over Marshall. Guest threw for 289 yards and tossed three touchdowns while rushing for 36 yards. The offense should be exciting, as Guest completed seven passes that went for over 20 yards, the most for CCU in a single game this season.

The running attack has been crucial for the Chanticleers this season and picking up victories. The Chants have rushed for at least 150 yards in each of their last four games. They have also found pay dirt on the ground in four straight games. Coastal Carolina is 5-0 this season when they finish the game with at least 35 rush attempts.

The defense has also turned a corner the past month and dominated last weekend against Marshall. The Chants forced five turnovers, intercepting four passes and forcing a fumble. The defensive unit held Marshall to just 283 total yards, marking the fewest yards they have allowed since 2021. The Chants offense has capitalized off the defensive turnovers, cashing in on 11 of its 17 takeaways this season, turning them into 65 points. Defensively, Coastal has prevented teams from scoring after five of the 11 Coastal turnovers this year.

Old Dominion Scouting Report

Old Dominion heads into this contest at 4-4 on the season and is coming off a 30-27 loss to James Madison. Pace and tempo are key for the Old Dominion offense. They have 10 scoring drives this season of less than one minute and are averaging 2:16 per scoring drive this season.

The best player on the offensive side of the football is wide receiver Kelby Williams. He has 14 catches for 338 yards this year and ranks second in the nation with 24.1 yards per reception. Old Dominion’s offense has registered five pass plays that have gone for more than 50 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown pass last weekend against James Madison.

The defense is led by linebacker Jason Henderson and safety Terry Jones. Henderson was a second-team All-American last season and is the third player in program history to record 100 tackles in back-to-back seasons. Henderson and Jones rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the Sun Belt Conference in tackles this season with 117 and 82, respectively.

The Pick

Guest looked real sharp last time out for his first career start and victory. I think this number is too low and they cover the spread easily by at least a touchdown. Look for the offense to move the ball methodically down field. The offense will establish the run and take shots deep. Defensively, Coastal Carolina will look to build momentum from last weekend and face an offense that is mediocre at best. Coastal wins by a touchdown.
