Predicted Winner of Every NFL Division with Betting Odds
Starting on September 7, all 32 teams will go to battle to finish at the top of their respective divisions to reach the postseason and possibly get to the NFL’s grandest stage, the Super Bowl. Only eight teams are fortunate enough to win their divisions, and I will review which ones will sit on their divisional thrones below.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
AFC West Winner: Kansas City Chiefs (-165)
If Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce are on the field, it is hard to bet against the Chiefs. They are fresh off a thrilling Super Bowl victory, their second in four seasons, and finished the 2022 season with an AFC best 14-3 record. They also led the entire AFC in points with 496. Despite having a weaker wide receiver corps heading into 2023, this team should still win their division. The Raiders and Broncos were mediocre in 2022, and the Chargers have a chance, but at some point, they always lose a crucial game they should win. The Chiefs should win the division and cruise into the playoffs per usual.
NFC West Winner: Seattle Seahawks (+195)
I am going to take the value pick to win this division. The Seahawks were supposed to fall into years of mediocrity after trading away Russell Wilson. Seattle ended up going 9-8 last year with Geno Smith and tallied a 4-2 division record. Smith found a resurgence in Seattle last year, and I expect that momentum to continue. They found two immediate starters in Day 1 of the NFL Draft, and you can never count out Seattle’s 12th man. It will be a two-team race between them and the 49ers, but we have no idea what to expect out of San Francisco’s QBs. Purdy is coming off major surgery, reports say Trey Lance is struggling, and Sam Darnold is well…. Sam Darnold. Take the value with Seattle.
AFC North Winner: Cincinnati Bengals (+150)
This team is primed to win even if Joe Burrow misses the first few weeks. They have made it to the AFC Championship Game two years in a row, including a Super Bowl loss. They boast a solid defense and a nice core of offensive weapons, headlined by Ja’Marr Chase. The Bengals finished 12-4 last season, which was third best in the AFC. The Ravens and even the Steelers could give them a run for their money, but expect “Joe Cool” to take home the division crown.
NFC North Winner: Detroit Lions (+140)
It is your time to shine, Dan Campbell! No more Aaron Rodgers in the division, and this team showed heart and grit last season. Detroit finished second in their division last year with a 9-8 record while going 5-1 within the NFC North. The Vikings will be in the mix, but they have holes on both sides of the football. The Lions are tough, determined, and they’ve been slowly building a quality roster over the past few seasons that include the likes of Jared Goff, David Montgomery, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Cam Sutton, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, amongst others. Detroit has not won the AFC North title since 1993, and this is the season they snap the streak.
AFC East Winner: Buffalo Bills (+125)
The Bills, Jets, and Dolphins all have the ability to win double-digit games in 2023. Buffalo finished 2022 with a 13-4 record, and all seems well with Stefon Diggs. The Bills are too dominant to bet against them, especially with their superstar quarterback Josh Allen taking snaps under center. Unless the defense regresses, and Josh Allen does not fix his accuracy issues from the second half of last season, it seems unlikely the Bills are dethroned.
NFC East Winner: Philadelphia Eagles (-135)
The Super Bowl hangover is a real thing in the NFL, but it would be a total shock if this roster falls victim. The Eagles are the favorite to come out of the NFC to go to the Super Bowl, and they should be with how talented of a roster they boast. Jalen Hurts is a star and they reloaded on defense in the NFL Draft. The Eagles finished last season 14-3, and their only real threat will be the Dallas Cowboys. Offensively, there should be a ton of points scored with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and D’Andre Swift at the helm. Fly Eagles Fly.
AFC South Winner: Jacksonville Jaguars (-155)
Unless Trevor Lawrence regresses, this Doug Pederson-coached team should win this division. The Texans and Colts are throwing rookie quarterbacks out onto the field, while the Titans have holes on both sides of the football. The Jags finished last year with a 9-8 record, which was good enough to win the division. They also had a miraculous comeback victory against the Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. The offense should only get better with the addition of Calvin Ridley, who missed all of 2022 due to suspension. This team should repeat as AFC South champs.
NFC South Winner: New Orleans Saints (+120)
The Saints have the edge with the addition of quarterback Derek Carr. The Bucs are entering the season without Tom Brady, and it looks like Baker Mayfield will get a chance to start. The Panthers and Falcons are trotting out rookie quarterbacks (essentially as Desmond Ridder has not had much time). Carr has never played with an above average defense. And if the Saints are good at one thing, it is defense. Carr also has weapons offensively with Chris Olave, Michael Thomas (if he is healthy), Alvin Kamara (after a three-game suspension), Taysom Hill, and Jamaal Williams. Expect a Saints NFC South title in 2023.
