NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 14: Advice and Predictions
There are just 5 weeks to go in the regular season. And with nearly half the teams eliminated, the safe choices for survivor pools are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Last week, five of our top six selections won outright, with the Jacksonville Jaguars being the lone blemish, after Trevor Lawrence suffered an injury in the defeat. In Week 14, there are only two spreads sitting at more than 7 points, but there are plenty of other secure options available to keep you alive. Here are the top survivor pool picks, ranked from most to least confident.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Monday Night: Miami Dolphins (-13.5) Over Tennessee Titans
This one should come as no surprise, as the Dolphins have been beating up on sub .500 teams all season long. The Titans have been poor this year, and expecting Will Levis to go shot for shot with Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill is a tall task. Dolphins make it look easy in Week 14 and are a great pick with a tough schedule left. No more saving Miami, use them if you haven’t already.
San Francisco 49ers (-10.5) Over Seattle Seahawks
The 49ers are coming off a dominant road victory over the Eagles, and they’ll be looking to put together their second five-game win streak of the season against the Seahawks. A win against Seattle would all but secure the NFC West title, and the 49ers will cruise to victory. A dominant defense that has held the Eagles, Jaguars, Seahawks, and Buccaneers under 20 points combined with an offense that makes it look easy is a recipe for success. The 49ers beat up on Seattle nicely two weeks ago and will do so once again in Week 14.
Houston Texans (-5.5) Over New York Jets
The Texans will be my official selection this week, as it honestly doesn’t matter who the Jets put at QB, they will still find ways to lose games. Houston has been on a roll this season and sits just one game back of the Jaguars for the AFC South lead. They have plenty of meaningful football to play, while the Jets couldn’t be more excited to end this season. No gimmies left on their schedule, so now is the perfect time to use Houston.
Baltimore Ravens (-7) Over LA Rams
The Ravens have been a wagon all season long, and coming off their bye they will be able to make quick work of the Rams. Matthew Stafford has been solid for the Rams, keeping his team afloat in what was expected to be a lost season. The NFC Wild Card race has begun to heat up, but the 14th ranked LA offense will struggle to get things going against the elite defense that is the Baltimore Ravens. At home, this should be another easy win for Lamar Jackson and co.
Monday Night: Green Bay Packers (-6.5) Over New York Giants
The Packers shocked the world on Sunday night, ousting the Chiefs on national television. The Giants will have the extra rest coming into this matchup, but it won’t matter when they are forced to roll out Tommy DeVito. The Packers seem to have found their man in Jordan Love and should be able to pull above .500 with a win in New York. The Giants are abysmal and probably won’t win another game this season.
Detroit Lions (-3) Over Chicago Bears
Divisional games are always tough to confidently predict. However, considering the Lions knack for winning tight games, they will be able to get it done in Chicago. Jared Goff and the solid Lions defense have been surging up the NFC North standings and cannot afford to lose ground with the Vikings and Packers nipping at their heels. The rest of Detroit’s schedule is against teams at or above .500, making this the final viable time to use them.
Atlanta Falcons (-2) Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Falcons are at home and cannot afford to drop a must-win game against the Bucs. Both of these teams have divisional hopes, and Atlanta will want some breathing room from the chasing pack. Their run game is gradually improving and has become a real force to be reckoned with. Baker Mayfield will have all the time he needs in the pocket but will be unable to carve apart the Falcons secondary.
Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5) Over Buffalo Bills
There are good reasons to save the Chiefs this week, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t confident they are winning. If you’ve saved the Chiefs this long, you certainly won’t be using them against the Bills, in what is a high stakes game for both teams. The Chiefs are in the hunt for the AFC’s number 1 seed, while the Bills are fighting for their playoff lives. Down the stretch, Travis Kelce will make a few huge catches to push the defending champions over the line.
Denver Broncos (+2.5) Over LA Chargers
It’s finally time to pull the plug on the Chargers. Despite their plethora of offensive and defensive talent, the Chargers have been unable to consistently put wins on the board. A 6-0 victory over the Patriots will not do much to boost confidence, and the high-flying Broncos will be eager to get back on track with a victory. I never thought I’d say this, but Russell Wilson is the better option over Justin Herbert and has earned your survivor pool pick this week.
Indianapolis Colts (-1) Over Cincinnati Bengals
The Colts have been a solid option this season, sitting at 7-5 through 13 weeks. Gardner Minshew will be able to put an end to the Jake Browning hype train and keep the Colts in the AFC South, and Wild Card, races. The Bengals may have gotten a feel-good win over the Lawrence-less Jaguars, but there are still far too many holes in their lineup for them to be on an even playing field with the Colts. The Colts have a solid pass defense, and the Bengals don’t have the run game to expose their leaky run defense. Trust Minshew and the Colts in Week 14.
New Orleans Saints (-5) Over Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have no reason to tank, yet they are doing a great job losing football games. Bryce Young has struggled in his first season, and a sneaky good Saints defense will give him all he can handle in this tough road game. The Panthers are bad all over the field. And while the Saints may not be much better, they have divisional hopes still alive, and Jameis Winston will be as explosive as ever in their nail-biting victory.
Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys (-3.5) Over Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles and Cowboys square off in a pivotal game atop the NFC East, and a Cowboys win would send them top of the division. The Eagles are still the team to beat in the NFC, but they will suffer back-to-back losses for the first time in years when they travel to Dallas. The Cowboys have been rolling and have had this game circled on their calendar all season long. Dak Prescott is playing at an MVP caliber and will be able to carve up a struggling Eagles secondary on Sunday.
Thursday Night: Pittsburgh Steelers (-6) Over New England Patriots
This total is sitting at a flat 30 points, which should tell you all you need to know about this matchup. The Steelers and Patriots both have solid defenses, with horrendous offenses. The Steelers are in the thick of the AFC Wild Card race, while the Patriots are tanking for Caleb Wiliams. In a battle of dominant defenses, the Steelers should come out on top, but I wouldn’t risk your survivor pool life in a game where one turnover will likely be enough to get the victory for either team.
Las Vegas Raiders (+3) Over Minnesota Vikings
Justin Jefferson is set to make his return. However, with Joshua Dobbs the ‘Passtronaut’ throwing up ducks, the Vikings will fall to the electric Raiders. Las Vegas may not have much going for them, but the belief is still there with the team, and that energy will help them overcome the Vikings. Minnesota lacks the ruthless streak to put a team like the Raiders away, and in a razor close finish I’ll take the Raiders.
Cleveland Browns (-3) Over Jacksonville Jaguars
Both teams will be without their starting quarterback, making the Browns defense the difference-maker here. Cleveland has gotten used to life without a solid QB, leaning on their defense to turn games into slogs. Joe Flacco takes care of the ball, and the Browns defense will be hungry to avenge the 36 points they allowed last week. You can skip watching this punt filled game, but the Browns should be able to eke out a win.
Pick: Houston Texans Over New York Jets
Teams Used: Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, LA Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars
