NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 13: Advice and Predictions
It has been a successful Survivor Pool season, but we were eliminated in Week 12 after Joshua Dobbs and the Vikings turned the ball over 4 times against the Bears. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of entries left at this late stage of the season, and navigating a difficult final stretch will not be an easy task. The Chiefs, Dolphins, and Cowboys all won as 9+ point favorites in Week 12. And with a similar set of heavy favorites available this week, we may have to dip down our rankings to find a suitable selection. Here are the Week 13 Survivor pool picks, ranked from most to least confident.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Monday Night: Jacksonville Jaguars (-8.5) Over Cincinnati Bengals
The Jaguars are the perfect selection in Week 13, as they will be able to beat up on a Burrow-less Bengals team. Trevor Lawrence and co. have shot up the standings thanks to 7 wins in their last 8 games, and it’s difficult to imagine Jake Browning being the man to slow them down. They have a balanced attack that will be able to run riot over the lifeless Bengals defense. The Jaguars will be my second chance selection this week.
Thursday Night: Dallas Cowboys (-9) Over Seattle Seahawks
The Cowboys are an absolute wagon at home, scoring 30+ points in every game this season. The Seahawks have turned the ball over too frequently to expect an upset, and this one will likely be over before halftime. Dallas is simply too complete on both sides of the ball to expect an ailing Seahawks team to be able to keep up. The extra rest since their Thanksgiving beatdown against the Commanders will help, too, as Dallas is a predictably safe pick this week.
Miami Dolphins (-9.5) Over Washington Commanders
Sam Howell and the Commanders can score, but their inability to put together stops will be their downfall. Their defense will be unable to contain the high-flying Dolphins. And while they may be able to keep this one close in the first half, Miami will eventually pull away. Tua Tagovailoa is playing like a man on a mission, and the MVP candidate will need a big game to keep himself in the race. The defeated Commanders defense is the perfect time to get it.
LA Chargers (-6) Over New England Patriots
Whoever the Patriots are playing is usually a safe bet in survivor pools this season, as while the Chargers are far from perfect, even they can beat up on New England. Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe might as well alternate snaps at this point, as there is absolutely no consistency at signal caller for the Pats. Justin Herbert is prone to making big mistakes, but he should be able to outduel either Patriots quarterback in a much-needed blowout victory. There won’t be many more chances to safely use the Chargers. Therefore, if you’ve already used Jacksonville this year, LA is a great look.
LA Rams (-3.5) Over Cleveland Browns
Unless the ghosts of DeShaun Watson and Nick Chubb make surprise appearances in this matchup, the Rams are an excellent choice in Week 13. The Browns elite defense will go to waste as their incompetent offense continues to throw admirable efforts away. Matthew Stafford has enough weapons at his disposal to at least partially unlock the Browns defense, and it will likely only take 1-2 touchdowns to get them over the line. The Browns offense is a mess, and a peppy Rams unit will take full advantage.
Sunday Night: Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5) Over Green Bay Packers
The Chiefs and Packers are headed in very different directions, and it will take more than an annual beatdown of the Lions to convince me the Packers are legit. Jordan Love turns the ball over too frequently, and the Chiefs will not be taking this one lightly with the AFC bye still up for grabs. Patrick Mahomes got back on track last weekend. And with Taylor Swift’s tour completed, her inevitable attendance will lift the Chiefs to victory.
Philadelphia Eagles (+2.5) Over San Francisco 49ers
I frankly don't care who the Eagles are going up against, they are at home, and they will win. The Eagles have earned that kind of praise after beating down on whoever stands in their path. And without the needed grit in their lines, the 49ers flashy offense will be neutralized. Jalen Hurts is desperate to win his first Super Bowl, and a victory over the 49ers would all but seal the Eagles place atop the NFC standings. There is merit to saving the Eagles for an easier week. However, when in doubt, they are always a good team to lean on.
Detroit Lions (-4) Over New Orleans Saints
The Lions are on the road, but they’ll be able to get back on track against a flat Saints offense. Despite the horrendous run of form the Saints have been on, they are still right in the heat of the NFC South race thanks to a lack of competition in their division. However, the Lions will be desperate to win the NFC North for the first time in franchise history, and a win over the Saints will have them talking about clinching scenarios. The Lions burned lots of people last week but are a solid look to get back on track in New Orleans.
Indianapolis Colts (-1) Over Tennessee Titans
The Colts are in a surprising hunt for a playoff spot, thanks to quality play from backup Gardner Minshew, and a suddenly stout defense. In what should be a heated divisional contest, the Colts will do enough to squeak out a victory. The wheels are falling off the wagon in Tennessee, and a motivated Colts team is a great pick for your Week 13 Survivor pool.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5) Over Arizona Cardinals
I refuse to use the word ‘lucky’ when speaking about sports, but it feels as though the Steelers run of good fortune will come to an end sooner rather than later. The Cardinals are unlikely to upset the AFC playoff contenders, but this one could be a lot closer than expected. Kyler Murray has plenty to prove, and he will be giving maximum effort against a tough Steelers defense. Pittsburgh could come into this game lightly, and they are not a good team when they’re playing catch up. The Steelers probably still win, but I’d stay away this week.
Denver Broncos (+3.5) Over Houston Texans
The Texans were humbled by the Jaguars last week, and they’ll be losing their second straight game when Denver comes to town. Russell Wilson has been turning back the clock and taking full advantage of a rapidly improving Denver defense. CJ Stroud may be the flashy new thing in the league. However, without a comparable defensive unit, the Broncos will be able to string together their 6th straight victory.
Carolina Panthers (+5.5) Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This may feel like a good week to use up Tampa Bay against the Panthers. However, in a divisional game, there is no need to tempt fate. The firing of Frank Reich will give the Panthers a lift, and it’s not like the Buccaneers have been steamrolling teams all season long. Bryce Young was just given a ballot of confidence from the owner, and he will repay that token of appreciation with a hard-earned victory.
Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) Over New York Jets
I guess we will take the Falcons? Neither of these teams can be trusted at this stage of the season, but I’ll back Taylor Heinicke to outduel whoever the Jets decide to throw under center this week. Believe it or not, the Falcons still have a great chance of hosting a playoff game, but a loss to the lowly Jets will dent those dreams. They’ll use a punishing run game to find a way to get it done.
