The 2023-24 NFL season is quickly approaching, and it is time to look at some season-long prop bets! There are a ton of props with so much opportunity on a clean board before the real action starts in September. The key is to evaluate and find lines that are too low or too high. In this article, I will be going through some defensive props that I am targeting this season.

Stephon Gilmore OVER 1.5 Interceptions (+115)

This might be my favorite prop bet on the board for defensive players. Gilmore has cleared this number in nine of the last 10 seasons, and you are getting it at plus money. He has 29 career interceptions and is known throughout the league as one of the best corners. Now, he joins a Dallas Cowboys defense that features Trevon Diggs opposite of Gilmore, and Diggs has 14 interceptions over the past two seasons. Quarterbacks will have to pick their poison, and Gilmore should have plenty of opportunities to haul in multiple picks in 2023.

Minkah Fitzpatrick OVER 3.5 Interceptions (+115)

The first of my two defensive Steelers prop bets, Minkah is a ballhawk all over the field. Since being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019, Fitzpatrick has tallied 17 of his 19 career picks with the black and gold. He has cleared this number in three of the last four seasons. The defense added Patrick Peterson and drafted Joey Porter Jr., which should improve the secondary and allow Fitzpatrick to roam freely. There should be plenty of bad throws from opposing quarterbacks for Fitzpatrick to pick off with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith rushing the backfield. At plus money, take the over.

T.J. Watt OVER 13.75 Sacks (+100)

The 28-year-old only played in 10 games last season after tearing his pectoral muscle against the Bengals. In 2021, Watt won Defensive Player of the Year after tying Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record at 22.5. He has registered 77.5 sacks over his six-year career. The Steelers have added pieces in the secondary and through the draft to help shore up coverage, allowing more time for Watt and company to get to the quarterback. If Watt is on the field, his production will continue to soar. I LOVE both his over 13.75 sacks number and Watt leading the league in sacks at +850 odds in 2023.

Nick Bosa UNDER 15.75 Sacks (-130)

Bosa is coming off a monster season where he led the league in sacks with 18.5. I expect Bosa to have another great season. However, can he sustain this level of success and stay on the field? In two of his four seasons, Bosa has missed games. He played in only two games in his sophomore season in the NFL and missed Week 6 last year with a groin injury. With recent reports suggesting Bosa could be holding out for a new contract, everything in my gut says take the under.

Cameron Jordan OVER 7.75 Sacks (-110)

Jordan is the definition of consistent. Over his 12-year NFL career, he has missed only two games. Besides his rookie campaign, he has had at least 7.5 sacks EVERY season. Last year Jordan recorded 8.5 sacks, while in 2021, he brought the quarterback down 12.5 times. He is a sack machine with 115.5 for his career. There are a lot of question marks at QB for all the teams in the Saints division. Jordan will get to go against Baker Mayfield, Desmond Ridder, and Bryce Young in six of the 17 regular season games. Easy targets for this veteran. Take the over to cash.

Darius Slay OVER 2.5 Interceptions (+120)

Slay is worth a wager at +120 odds for a shot at three interceptions. Slay is the leader of the Eagles’ secondary and has cleared this number in four out of the last six seasons. He recorded eight picks in 2017, and has reached three interceptions in 2018, 2021, and 2022. The Eagles offense should put up a ton of points this season, which means Philly should be in position to have big leads, forcing opposing offenses to pass the football a lot. Slay should have plenty of opportunities to clear this number.
