NFL Season Leaders Betting Odds and Predictions
The NFL regular season is at its midpoint now as we are entering Week 10. For all of us bettors who projected some of the league's skill position stars to go over their season totals for yards and/or scores, I offer my condolences and apologies.
It has been a different game this year with point totals getting lower and lower as the season has progressed. Sportsbooks are doing their best to keep up with the low scores, but unders just keep hitting.
Primetime unders for the three weekly night games this season are 21-7 to the under. Just in Week 10, we have 5 games with a point total of 38 points or below.
I was hoping the NBA would go back to playing defense. I thought the NFL was fairly balanced. Year after year, though, the best athletes choosing to play the most valuable positions of cornerback and more importantly, edge rusher, have offenses scratching their helmets as they pull the grass out of their earhole.
It has still been a good offensive year for some. The Miami Dolphins are led by Tua Tagovialoa, who currently leads the league in passing yards. His favorite target, Tyreek Hill, leads the NFL in receiving yards.
Maxx Crosby is taking heads in Las Vegas. He is currently tied for 2nd in the NFL with Myles Garrett and TJ Watt with 9.5 sacks. The leader is a surprise out of Minnesota, Danielle Hunter.
Let's look at the betting odds for these season leaders and make a few predictions on who finishes the year atop these major statistical categories.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Season Leader in Passing Yards Betting Odds
Tua Tagovailoa: +200
Patrick Mahomes: +250
Josh Allen: +700
Justin Herbert: +1000
Sam Howell: +1000
Jared Goff: +1100
CJ Stroud: +1600
Joe Burrow: +2000
Jalen Hurts: +2000
Trevor Lawrence: +2500
Matthew Stafford: +3000
Dak Prescott: +4000
Brock Purdy: +5000
Russell Wilson: +6500
Geno Smith: +6500
Derek Carr: +8000
Lamar Jackson: +10000
Josh Dobbs: +10000
I listed a lot of the top quarterbacks in the NFL for informational purposes. We certainly don't think Derek Carr will lead the NFL in passing yards.
Tagovailoa seems like the play to make, considering he is the current leader by over 100 yards, his team has the best offense in the NFL by far, and their defense is weak. So, there probably won't be a lot more blowouts.
I can’t help but think someone like Sam Howell of the Washington Redskins, who is just over 100 yards shy of Tagovailoa right now, could steal this. His team stinks. He has thrown 45 more passes than anyone this year.
Jalen Hurts hasn't had his bye week yet. That hurts him. Josh Allen will probably be there at the top of the season leaders for the remainder of the year.
Season Leader in Passing Yards Betting Prediction
I would like our pick to be on a dome team. This Winter is projected to be a nasty one, and teams are already scoring in the teens. We will probably see point totals closer to 25 than 35 by the end of the year.
I heard the book was out on CJ Stroud. Then, I saw him throw for 470 yards with 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions this past Sunday.
It's a long shot, but I would rather fall short with Stroud than take Tagovailoa only to see his fragility come back to haunt us.
Pick: CJ Stroud (+1600)
Season Leader in Passing Touchdowns Betting Odds
Josh Allen: +300
Tua Tagovailoa: +300
Patrick Mahomes: +380
Justin Herbert: +650
Russell Wilson: +1400
Joe Burrow: +2000
Jared Goff: +2500
CJ Stroud: +2500
Jalen Hurts: +3000
Trevor Lawrence: +3000
Geno Smith: +3000
Brock Purdy: +3000
Sam Howell: +3500
Dak Prescott: +3500
Lamar Jackson: +5000
Matthew Stafford: +6500
Any of the four names at the top could hit for this betting play. I am eying the guy with the (+1400) next to his name. Yes, my fellow Virginian Russell Wilson is just 3 TD passes behind the leader.
His team has been improving on both sides of the ball as the season has progressed.
Part of me wants the bet on Joe Burrow. He is 6 TDs behind the leader at the moment. That is too many to overcome with other elite quarterbacks in front of him as well.
Season Leader in Passing Touchdowns Betting Prediction
We could try to snipe this bet, but there is a parody at the top. Let's stick with betting value. We are getting more time under head coach Sean Payton, more time for him and Wilson to click.
The defense can give them some short fields, and they have the stellar receiving corps to make this happen.
Season Leader in Sacks Betting Odds
TJ Watt: +250
Myles Garrett: +250
Danielle Hunter: +450
Josh Allen: +700
Micah Parsons: +1000
Maxx Crosby: +1000
Trey Hendrickson: +2000
Kayvon Thibodeaux: +2000
Hasson Reddick: +2500
Chris Jones: +2500
Nick Bosa: +2500
Montez Sweat: +2500
Chase Young: +5000
Khalil Mack: +5000
Khalil Mack! I don't know why he is sitting down at 50 to 1. He has 9 sacks this season after picking up 2 this past week versus the Jets. Mack has Joey Bosa to take on double teams or, at the very least, keep him from being doubled.
He is 1 sack off the league lead. We know he has the athletic ability and instincts to match any of these previously listed animals.
I love what Maxx Crosby is doing in Vegas, but I think he gets doubled-teamed a lot down the stretch. All these guys are freaks.
Season Leader in Sacks Betting Prediction
I like the combo of Bosa and Mack for the Chargers. They are playing their best ball of the year, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I like Justin Herbert and company to get the lead for them and Mack to keep it that way.
Pick: Khalil Mack (+5000)
Season Leader in Receiving Yards Betting Odds
Tyreek Hill: -130
AJ Brown: +300
CeeDee Lamb: +900
Stefon Diggs: +1000
Ja’Marr Chase: +1400
Keenan Allen: +2200
Puka Nucua: +3500
The last season leader we will attempt to predict is for receiving yards. As you can see, The Cheetah is atop the betting board. AJ Brown's odds are considerably more valuable, though.
He has almost as many yards as Hill right now. What hurts Brown is that his team still has to take a week off. CeeDee Lamb is heating up. Could he catch Hill?
Lamb hasn’t been targeted nearly as much as those two.
Season Leader in Receiving Yards Betting Prediction
Hill leads the league in targets, yards, and yards after the catch. We went with a few value plays already. Give me the Cheetah!
Pick: Hill (-130)
