The NFL standings, just like your office pool standings, are solidifying as we head into Week 8. Last week, we went just 5-8 ATS, bringing our season record to 54-50-2. We are still in the green, but it will take a solid week to vault us back to the top of our respective leagues. Our hot streak of 21-9 over the last 2 weeks was snapped, but we’ll be getting back on track with a solid slate of games on tap for Week 8.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+8.5) Over Buffalo Bills
The Bills have now put together 3 straight lackluster showings, with just 1 win over the lowly New York Giants over that span. While I expect them to get back on track against Tampa Bay, they still lack the ruthless streak needed to put teams away and cover these large spreads. Baker Mayfield does enough to keep it close. Bills 24, Buccaneers 19
Tennessee Titans (+2.5) Over Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons managed to pull out a Week 7 win without the help from Bijan Robinson and will find themselves in another close game when they head to Tennessee. A combination of Malik Willis and Will Levis will result in the Titans finding a way to win this game, just as they have done in recent years. It won’t be pretty, but in a field goal battle, the home crowd does enough to push them over the edge. Titans 18, Falcons 15
Houston Texans (-3) Over Carolina Panthers
Fading the Panthers has been a solid way to line your pockets this season, and we will be doing so once again when the Texans come to town. In a battle of the top two selections from last year’s draft, CJ Stroud leads his team to a win and cover, keeping the Panthers winless. Texans 27, Panthers 17
Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) Over Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers keep finding ways to win thanks to their defensive strength, but it won’t be enough against Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. Jacksonville has lacked the killer instinct, and almost allowed the Saints to get a big comeback on Thursday Night Football. However, with the rest advantage, the Jags will extend their win streak after holding the lead for the entire game. Pittsburgh cannot play catch up effectively. Jaguars 21, Steelers 17
LA Rams (+6.5) Over Dallas Cowboys
This matchup will go a long way in determining the Wild Card race in the NFC, and the Rams are good enough to keep this one close. Matthew Stafford has been consistently feeding Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. And as long as the Rams are within two scores in the waning minutes, they have a great chance to get the cover. Dallas has been far too inconsistent to warrant a touchdown spread against anyone other than a bottom feeder. Cowboys 27, Rams 24
Minnesota Vikings (PK) Over Green Bay Packers
The Vikings upset the 49ers on Monday Night Football. And despite the short week, they will secure their second straight win. Jordan Love convinced us all that he was the next great quarterback in Green Bay. However, with 7 interceptions in his last 4 games, if he continues to turn the ball over, Green Bay will find themselves with the Bears at the bottom of the NFC North. Captain Kirk Cousins continues to get it done without Justin Jefferson, thanks to his decision making in the pocket. Vikings 24, Packers 17
Miami Dolphins (-9.5) Over New England Patriots
The Dolphins offense got humbled against the Eagles, but the Patriots defensive woes will allow them to quickly get back on track in Week 8. Mac Jones will not be able to keep up with the speed the Dolphins bring to the table and will need multiple turnovers like he got against the Bills to keep this one close. Dolphins 35, Patriots 20
Indianapolis Colts (-1) Over New Orleans Saints
The Colts have one of the best backups in the league with Gardner Minshew, and the savvy veteran will continue to put wins on the board with the Colts. Their defense was called into question against the Browns, but the Saints lack the offensive firepower to take advantage on the road. Check downs to Alvin Kamara will only get them so far, and the Colts use their well-rounded team to come out on top in this winnable matchup. Colts 20, Saints 12
New York Jets (-3) Over New York Giants
In the battle of MetLife Stadium, the Jets will come out on top. The Giants may have been able to take down the Commanders in Week 7, but the Jets offensive line will be far less generous, as they were built to protect Aaron Rodgers. Zach Wilson has turned his career around with his extended opportunity to start and will keep the vibes high for the Jets, with a statement win over the Giants. Jets 28, Giants 9
Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5) Over Washington Commanders
The Eagles can dominate in the trenches, and the Commanders struggle in that department. This has a blowout written all over it, as the Commanders will have no answer for the now infamous “Brotherly Shove.” The Eagles are too good on both sides of the ball. And the only reason this line is close is thanks to the mistakes they made in the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the season. Eagles make it look easy on the road. Eagles 30, Commanders 16
Cleveland Browns (+3.5) Over Seattle Seahawks
In a battle of playoff hopefuls, both of these franchises desperately want to win this matchup. The Browns defense was fractured against the Colts in Week 7, but they are still one of the best units in the league. As long as PJ Walker can continue to prevent turnovers, the Browns will have a good shot at winning this one down to the final whistle. Geno Smith and co. get it done but fail to cover in the process. Seahawks 20, Browns 17
Baltimore Ravens (-8.5) Over Arizona Cardinals
The Ravens have failed to cover these big spreads over the last few seasons. However, after their big win over Detroit in Week 7, I expect them to keep their foot on the gas against Arizona. The return of Kyler Murray is looming, but this current Cardinals squad is vastly outmatched compared to the Super Bowl hopeful Ravens. Lamar Jackson continues his MVP-caliber campaign in their blowout victory. Ravens 30, Cardinals 10
Cincinnati Bengals (+5.5) Over San Francisco 49ers
What a difference a few weeks can make. The 49ers were pegged as one of the best teams in the NFL. However, after losing two straight, they are much closer to the 3-3 than we realized. Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase got off to a slow start to the year but have turned the corner in recent weeks, keeping the Bengals playoff hopes alive. There are too many question marks surrounding the 49ers to back them against a rested, surging Bengals squad. Not only do they cover, but the Bengals hand the 49ers their 3rd straight defeat. Bengals 25, 49ers 24
Kansas City Chiefs (-7) Over Denver Broncos
The Chiefs have won 16 straight games against Denver, and I won’t be stepping in front of the juggernaut offense they bring to the field on a weekly basis. Denver was fortunate to keep the score close in the first meeting between these two teams and won’t have the same good luck in this meeting. Patrick Mahomes has a personal vendetta against Denver and will get the win and cover in Week 8. Chiefs 31, Broncos 11
Chicago Bears (+8.5) Over LA Chargers
What have we seen from the Chargers to justify a spread like this? The Bears are certainly not the best team in the league, but it’s shocking to see such a side spread for an incomplete LA roster. They’ve lost back-to-back games and haven’t won by more than a touchdown all season. The Bears keep it close, and possibly get the outright win thanks to inspired play from Tyson Bagent, as they pile more misery onto the already dreadful Chargers season. Bears 28, Chargers 24
Detroit Lions (-8) Over Las Vegas Raiders
It feels unconventional to take the 8-point favorite coming off a 32-point blowout loss, but Detroit is more than good enough to put the Raiders away in the first half. They still hold a healthy lead atop the NFC North, and a woeful Raiders team won’t be able to prevent them from extending it. Jared Goff will rebound, and the Lions get a big win in front of the nation, reminding the country they are still a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. Lions 28, Raiders 3
