Free NBA Picks Milwaukee Bucks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 3/29/2023
This season, I will be breaking down every Milwaukee Bucks weekday game and giving out my best bets for the contest. While we may not always favor the Bucks, using my knowledge of the team, and the NBA as a whole, we will be able to churn a consistent profit throughout the season.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
On Monday night, the Bucks got back into the win column, beating the lowly Detroit Pistons, 126-117. Giannis Antetokounmpo sat with an injury, but his backup big men in Bobby Portis and Brook Lopez both secured 14 rebounds to go along with their 20+ point performances. The Bucks were in control for a majority of the game and will be eager to secure top spot in the East.
From a betting perspective, we had our 5th straight perfect night. An entire season of studying the Bucks is paying dividends, as finishing up 20+ Units has been no easy task. The Pistons kept it close, covering the 17.5 point spread in the defeat, while Jaden Ivey easily cleared 3.5 Rebounds, scoring 32 Points with 8 Assists and 8 Rebounds.
Tonight, the Bucks (54-21) visit Indiana (33-43) to take on the Pacers, wrapping up their 4-game road trip. The Pacers play-in hopes are slowly fading away, as they are now 3.5 games back on the Bulls for the coveted 10th place position, with just 6 games to play. A visit from the Eastern Conference leaders will virtually put the nail in the coffin, as the Pacers will struggle to replicate their 139-123 win over the Bucks 2 weeks ago. Despite the absence of Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers offense was flying, with 8 players scoring double digit points, embarrassing the Bucks on their home court. In tonight’s matchup, coach Mike Budenholzer will not be taking the Pacers lightly, and will ensure the Bucks maintain their lead atop the East.
This is a dangerous spot for the Bucks. They are surely looking ahead to their monstrous matchup with the Celtics tomorrow night, but cannot afford to look past Indiana. The Pacers are a respectable 8-9 in their last 17 games, and a high flying 3 point heavy offense can always get hot in a hurry. In tonight’s matchup, Halliburton and Buddy Heild will be forced to sit with injuries, and Myles Turner is questionable. Without their key starters, the Pacers will struggle to get going, despite their home team status. The Bucks injury report isn’t clean either, as Khris Middleton, Joe Ingles, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are all questionable, and their status may be linked to what lineup Indiana rolls out. The Bucks are well aware of the Pacers upset potential, but still want to rest their stars for tomorrow's game if possible.
While the Pacers may have beat the Bucks recently, it will not happen again. The Pacers shot 48% from behind the arc, scoring an incredible 22 3’s, the second most by the Pacers this season. Lightning will not strike twice, and the absence of Hield will severely limit their 3pt potential. Once you factor in the absence of Haliburton, the Pacers will struggle to get going on the league’s best defense. The total is set at 238.5, and the first bet of the evening will be on that Under.
At first glance, this total may appear low considering these two teams combined for 262 points just 2 weeks ago, but the hot shooting from deep cannot be counted on, and I’d much rather put my hard-earned cash on the Bucks interior defense. Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, and Jevon Carter are all competent perimeter defenders, and I don’t expect the likes of ex-Buck Jordan Nwora or rookie Bennedict Mathurin to get the better of them. It’s rare we see a total this high for a Bucks game, and I don’t expect Indiana to do their part tonight. Take the Under.
The second bet for the evening is Jrue Holiday Over 3.5 Rebounds at -150 odds. The Pacers are 24th in the league in rebounds, and their starting backcourt will be on the bench tonight. The Bucks will look to stay out of the paint, and take lots of 3’s, which will lead to lots of long rebounds. Holiday is averaging 5 rebounds per game this season, so this is a very reasonable number. Additionally, if this game turns into a blowout, Holiday has had no recent injury concerns, and is the best exterior Bucks defender, which should keep him on the court longer than his fellow starters. Laying the juice is never fun, but Holiday will get the job done.
