Free NBA Picks Milwaukee Bucks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 2/2/2023
This season, I will be breaking down every Milwaukee Bucks weekday game and giving my best bets for the contest. While we may not always favor the Bucks, using my knowledge of the Bucks, and the NBA as a whole, we will be able to churn a consistent profit by the season’s end.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
On Tuesday night, the Bucks stretched their win streak to 5 games, beating the Hornets 124-115. Giannis Antetokounmpo posted his 7th straight double-double, scoring 34 points and tacking on 18 rebounds. Khris Middleton continues to thrive off the bench, scoring 18 points in 19 minutes as he works his way back from offseason wrist surgery.
From a betting standpoint, we went 1-1. Mason Plumlee cashed our plus money double-double prop with ease, posting 14 rebounds and 14 assists, but we experienced one of the worst beats with our Bucks-Bucks bet. The Bucks were up 4 points with 4 seconds to go in the first half, before LaMelo Ball dishes to Jalen McDaniels for a 3-point shot, while Brook Lopez takes a technical foul, resulting in a 4 point play. The two teams went into the half tied 64-64, before the Bucks won comfortably in the 4th quarter. These beats will happen, but that one hurts.
Tonight, the Bucks (34-17) will look to make it 6 straight as they welcome the LA Clippers (29-25) to Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee. The Clippers have won 6 of their last 7 games as they look to pull away from a crowded Western Conference. The duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George is now in their 4th season in LA and will have their eyes firmly fixated on the championship. Leonard has already proven that when healthy, he can lead a team to an NBA title. He did this with the 2014 Spurs, and the 2019 Raptors, and both times he won Finals MVP. Leonard has a lethal mid-range, can hit shots all over the court, and plays lock down defense, ensuring he remains a valuable piece on any team in the league. Unfortunately for Leonard, staying healthy has been a major concern throughout his career, as he hasn’t eclipsed the 60-game mark since 2016. This season, the Clippers are 19-9 in games featuring Leonard, and a measly 10-16 in games without the American star.
His partner in crime, George, has done a good job holding down the Clippers franchise in Leonard’s absence, but cannot do it alone. The NBA season is a long and grueling 82 games, and the difference between winning and losing can be the health of a team’s stars. Tonight, neither are on the injury report as the Clippers bring their full squad into Milwaukee. The battle on both ends of the court will be immaculate. Antetokounmpo and Leonard have both won 2 DPOY awards and are two of the most talented two-way players in the league.
The Bucks struggle against teams with a similar build to the Clippers, and I’m surprised to see the Clippers as 4.5-point underdogs tonight. The Bucks have the size and length to deal with any paint threats the opposition throws their way, and they have the quick guards in Jrue Holiday and Jevon Carter to shut down their backcourt. The position they are missing is the forwards, as other than Antetokounmpo, they lack athletic bigs who can guard the outside. Leonard and George both have the length to trouble Holiday, and the athleticism to cross up Brook Lopez. Antetokounmpo can only guard one of them, and I expect the other to have a field day.
There’s a big betting slate for tonight’s matchup, so let’s get right into it. The first bet for the night is LA Clippers (+4.5) for 3 Units. The Clippers have been playing great basketball over the last couple weeks, and I feel as though they have the right personnel to take down the Bucks. Betting against a red-hot Milwaukee team is always risky, but I have faith in LA tonight. Even if they don’t win outright, it will be a close game from buzzer to buzzer.
The second bet of the night is Under 230.5 for 2 Units. The Clippers play at the 25th fastest pace in the league and will look to slow down the game at every opportunity. In the midst of a lengthy road trip, their tired legs will want to take a rest. Additionally, these are two defensive coaches, and they have the personnel to limit the opposition's scoring. Lethal scorers such as Antetokounmpo and Leonard can always push a total over themselves, but more often than not this game finishes Under a relatively high 230.5 total.
Next up I’ll be taking Paul George Over 23.5 points for 2 Units. I expect Antetokounmpo to take Leonard on the defensive end, leaving an undersized Grayson Allen, or Pat Connaughton, as his assignment. He will be able to drive to the basket or pull up and cash this prop with ease.
Finally, I’ll be taking Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 4.5 assists for 1 Unit. While Antetokounmpo has only cashed this prop in 3 of his last 7 games, he’s gotten 4+ assists in 12 of his last 13 appearances. He’s consistently getting 4 or more, and if he can drop one more dime, he’ll cash this prop. Against Ivica Zubac, Antetokounmpo will look to drive and kick rather than get his shot blocked in the paint.
Pick: LA Clippers (+4.5) 3 Units
Pick: Clippers vs Bucks Under 230.5 2 Units
Pick: Paul George Over 23.5 Points 2 Units
Pick: Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 4.5 Assists 1 Unit
