Free NBA Picks Milwaukee Bucks: Season-Long Handicapping and Specialization 2/10/2023
This season, I will be breaking down every Milwaukee Bucks weekday game and giving out my best bets for the contest. While we may not always favor the Bucks, using my knowledge of the team, and the NBA as a whole, we will be able to churn a consistent profit throughout the season.
Doc’s Sports offers NBA picks for every game on our NBA predictions page.
Last night, the Bucks kept the momentum rolling, extending their win streak to 9 games. They took down the LeBron-less Lakers 115-106, off another monstrous performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo, who dropped 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. He is the heartbeat of this team, and the supporting cast truly believe if they do their roles, he can lead them to a second championship in 4 seasons. The Lakers made some significant moves at the trade deadline and were forced to run a short bench. Despite this, they kept themselves in the game for a majority of the contest thanks to a fantastic game from Dennis Schroder, who scored 25 points and added on 12 Assists with 0 turnovers.
From a betting standpoint, we had an 0-2 night as our hot streak came to an end. The Lakers failed to cover the 8-point spread by the finest of margins, losing by 9, while Brook Lopez fell short of his 12.5 point mark, finishing with 9 points. We are still up several units on the season, and will look to get back in the win column tonight.
The Bucks (38-17) don’t have to travel far for their next road game, as they stay at Crypto.com arena to take on the LA Clippers (31-27). The Clippers have had a solid season despite having to battle through injuries to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Additionally, they made some moves during yesterday’s trade deadline that puts them in a good position to compete in a competitive Western Conference. They picked up Eric Gordon from the Rockets, Mason Plumlee from the Hornets, and Bones Hyland from the Nuggets. While they lost Luke Kennard and John Wall, this was an overall talent upgrade, and the Clippers will be eager to start this new era off strong.
In tonight’s game, the new arrivals will not debut, and Kawhi Leonard remains out with a right knee injury. Leonard’s impact cannot be overstated, as the Clippers are 10-16 without him, compared to 21-11 with him. His presence on both ends of the court will be missed, and the Clippers are a significantly worse squad when he’s absent.
The Bucks made some trade deadline moves of their own, picking up Jae Crowder after his very brief stint with the Nets. The wing is the perfect addition to an already strong Bucks team, as he can hit the 3 ball and play fantastic defense. The Bucks have quality ball handlers already in Milwaukee, and Crowder ready to pull up in the corner will result in a more efficient offense. While he won’t debut tonight, the team will get a lift from his arrival. They lost George Hill, Serge Ibaka, Jordan Nwora, and 5 second round picks, but it was a fair price to pay for an instant impact from Crowder.
Tonight’s matchup is a difficult one to handicap. The Bucks are coming into the contest as 2.5-point road underdogs, which is very surprising. Considering Leonard is still out, and the Bucks are on a 9 game win streak, there must be some underlying injuries baked into this line. The Bucks haven’t released their injury report yet, and it likely won’t be out until late in the afternoon.
I’m going to assume Lopez (Illness) and Antetokounmpo (Rest) will not be playing tonight, as the Bucks would be significant road favorites if the two play. Without their two big men, and considering Portis is still recovering from a knee injury, the Bucks will be very short at the center position. We could see the first start of the season for Thanasis Antetokounmpo. And while he may share a last name with Giannis Antetokounmpo, the similarities end there. This is a significant downgrade from their top 3 centers, and the Bucks will be at a serious disadvantage on the glass. Ivan Zubac will have a party in the paint, and the Clippers own the 6th best 3PT percentage, so I expect them to rain down exterior shots too.
The first bet of the night is Clippers (-2.5). I do not like fading the Bucks for a second straight night, but the Bucks team that walks on the court will not be a familiar one. The advantages on the glass, and in the open court, will be too much for the Bucks to overcome.
If by some miracle Antetokounmpo plays and the Bucks are still coming in at (-4) or better, I’ll be laying a 5 unit play on them. Without Leonard, a shorthanded Clippers unit will not be able to compete, the aforementioned advantage on the glass will evaporate, and the Bucks will be able to use their depth to outlast the Clippers.
The second bet of the night has to be Ivan Zubac Over 9.5 Rebounds at +100 odds. The Bosnian native will have a field day inside and has hauled in 10+ rebounds in 5 straight games. It feels too good to be true to be getting this line, as I expected it to be 10.5 with the Over juiced.
