DraftKings Online Sportsbook Has Home Field Advantage in Massachusetts

DraftKings employs over 2,000 workers in Boston as the main center of its operation. Founded 11 years ago in this city, DraftKings is the largest public traded gaming company that is situated in the New England states. It is aiming to be a top market share sportsbook in its home state of Massachusetts.
FanDuel leads the legal online sports betting market nationally with a share that equals DraftKings and BetMGM combined. Penn Entertainment’s Barstool Sportsbook has its roots in Boston with David Portnoy founding Barstool Sports in Boston. WynnBET has its operational unit in Massachusetts and its parent company, Wynn Resorts runs Encore Boston Harbor.
There are deep roots in Massachusetts from a gaming standpoint in all six online sportsbooks. However, DraftKings stands out as the company that call this state home by being from Boston.
DraftKings is Spending Heavily in Massachusetts
Despite focusing on cost and profitability on the national stage, DraftKings is spending heavily in Massachusetts with promotions and bonuses The sports gaming company is trying to attract new customers in Boston and the surrounding counties in the state.
According to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming (EKG) in their research of a legal Massachusetts sports betting market:
“Google search interest for DraftKings was significantly higher than FanDuel throughout the first month of Massachusetts sports betting.”
EKG also commented:
“That’s no surprise. We expect DraftKings to go hard after the number one spot in its home state.”
DraftKings accepted sports bets in August of 2018 as one of the two major companies that offered daily sports fantasy leagues. As one of three leading national sports betting sites, DraftKings launched its online sportsbook in Massachusetts on March 10 of this year, using its website and mobile betting app to place bets in all the Bay State.
The List of All Legal Sportsbook Operators in Massachusetts
Alongside DraftKings, there are 10 online sportsbooks that will accept legal wagers in Massachusetts. FanDuel is the largest sports betting site in the legal US market and this is the other major fantasy sports league site.
BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook and WynnBET can be traced to Las Vegas land-based casinos gambling venues (MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Resorts).
Penn Entertainment’s Barstool Sportsbook has a partnership with Barstool Sports. Bally Bet is one of the 10 approved online sportsbooks and it is associated with Bally’s Corporation in Provence, Rhode Island. Betr online sportsbook partners with internet sensation Jake Paul and Betway is an interactive division of Belterra Park. Fanatics Sportsbook is an offshoot of Fanatics, Inc. and its sports apparel and merchandise.
There are also three retail sportsbooks in Massachusetts. BetMGM Sportsbook is associated with MGM Springfield. Encore Boston Harbor has a retail sportsbook under name of WynnBET. Barstool Sportsbook has a retail operation at Plainridge Park Casino.
