We are now at the halfway mark of the NFL regular season, and as we are learning more about each team, the point spreads sharpen and become more difficult to bet.

If only there were a way we could manipulate the betting lines to give ourselves a much better chance to win, I think a lot of smart bettors would be down for it.

Forgive me if I'm insulting your intelligence, but we can do this with something called a teaser bet.

What is a Teaser?

A teaser is a type of parlay wager where the bettor can manipulate the betting odds by giving themselves points. There are several different types of teasers. And if you're doing this for the first time, it can be overwhelming trying to decide on a bet.

There is a basic strategy that many sharp bettors use weekly in the NFL. Generally, we don't recommend parlay betting, but a teaser using the basic strategy is a tried and true method for making money in the short and long term.

What is a Basic Strategy Teaser?

Firstly, the basic strategy teaser is a 6-point teaser. It is also a 2-game teaser, not 3, 4, or 5. It can be very tempting to add a lot of teams to your teaser because they look a lot more inviting with 6 more points to play with.

Don’t worry about potential massive payouts. Stick with the strategy.

Next, we want to tease through the key numbers of 3 and 7. More games are decided with a point differential of 3 points than any other amount of points. The second most likely margin of victory is 7 points. We want our 6 points to go through those two numbers.

Here is how we will do it.

If you want to tease an underdog up, we look for dogs with betting odds of (+1.5) to (+2.5) and tease them up to odds of (+7.5) to (+8.5).

If we want to tease a betting favorite down, we look for odds of (-7.5) to (-8.5) and tease them through those key numbers down to favorites of just (-1.5) to (-2.5).

Okay, now we have our strategy. Let’s look at all of the possible matchups we can use for our NFL Week 10 basic strategy teaser.

Potential Week 10 Teaser Games

Indianapolis Colts (-1.5) vs New England Patriots (+1.5)

The Colts and Pats are traveling to Germany for this matchup that the books see as a tight game. To tease this one, we would need to put stock into the New England Patriots. And as long as we have other options available, I will pass.

New Orleans Saints (-2.5) at Minnesota Vikings (+2.5)

On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints are traveling to play another dome team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Wow, did Josh Dobbs make the best of his debut with the Vikings or what? He didn't know any of the plays, but he put together several successful drives to win the game in the waning seconds.

As the Saints' offense is finally starting to gel, their defense has begun to break down over the past couple of weeks. I like the thought of teasing the Vikings up to (+8.5).

Detroit Lions (-1.5) at LA Chargers (+1.5)

To tease this game, we would have to play the Chargers at (+7.5). That isn't the worst idea, considering they are playing much better after getting healthy. I didn't like Justin Herbert reinjuring his hand against the Jets.

Couple that with the Lions coming off of a bye week, and I will pass on LA.

New York Jets (-2) at Las Vegas Raiders (+2)

Speaking of the Jets, they continue to play most teams tightly. That is, of course, because of their stellar defense. It certainly isn't their quarterback.

On the other side of the ball, the Las Vegas Raiders are coming off of an incredibly emotional win. Will they carry that emotion and renewed cohesion after they got rid of their head coach? Or maybe they had too much fun on The Strip after they trounced the Giants.

The strength of Las Vegas is their defense. This will likely be a low-scoring game, and that's something we should look for in a teaser because our points have more significance.

Denver Broncos (+7.5) at Buffalo Bills (-7.5)

I am on the other side of this one. Buffalo remains banged up on defense, and the team, as a whole, lacks consistency to say the least.

Week 10 Basic Strategy Teaser Prediction

We are going with the Raiders (+8) and the Vikings (+8.5). Both are home dogs, and they are both playing teams with weak offenses. Each game has a low point total as well. I like our dogs for the Week 10 basic strategy teaser.

Prediction: Vikings (+8.5) and Raiders (+8)
