Tony Finau Odds to Win 3M Open, PGA Picks & Predictions
Now that we’re through major championship season, the PGA tour is coming back to the States for the 3M Open. This event started in 2019, so it is relatively new to the Tour. That said, it started off fantastic when Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa were beaten out by Matthew Wolff who dropped an eagle on the 72nd hold to win the first ever event. Since then, Michael Thompson and Cameron Champ have taken the title respectively. Champ will be looking to defend his title, but he isn’t one of the favorites as we head into the weekend.
The 3M Open is an important event as there are only three tournaments left until we reach the FedEx Cup Playoffs for the 2022 season. That means this is an important event if golfers are looking at cementing their job security for a bit longer. There are a number of golfers that are showing up to try to make their case for the playoffs including Stephan Jaegar, who is on the cusp.
Coming into this one, Tony Finau is the favorite. He’s had a slow start the season but has played very well this summer. While he has yet to win an event this year, he has come in 2nd place twice and has a great shot at getting a win this weekend.
Finau is currently 37th on the leaderboard for official money having earned $2,671,636. He has competed in 20 events this year and has earned 912 points. In addition, he has three top-10 finishes this year. Out of his 69 rounds played, Finau has an average of 70.150 which puts him in a tie for 27th place with Mito Pereira. He also thrives in percentage of greens in regulation. He is tied for 17th with Sam Burns, hitting 69.36 of his greens (824 greens hit out of 1,188 holes). When it comes to driving distance, Finau averages 305.5 and has driven a total of 40,325 yards this season.
OTHER GOLFERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
Another golfer to keep an eye on this weekend is Hideki Matsuyama. Coming in at 16-1 odds, Matsuyama is coming off a 67 in his final round at St. Andrews and might have figured something out that he’ll be bringing to the 3M Open for the weekend. He’s been inconsistent this year and this will be the first time that he’ll be playing following a major in the last four years, but he’s got a great chance at making some noise, nonetheless.
Matsuyama has earned $5,708,548 this year and is currently 10th on the money list. He’s had two wins this season with one coming at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the other being the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, OH. The 30-year-old out of Japan has also finished in the top-10 on 6 occasions, having a total of 1,697 points (8th place). He is tied for 21st place in average points with 70.012 this season and has played a total of 63 rounds. He is also right behind Finau in terms of average driving distance with 305. 3 with 118 total drives.
Sungjae Im has 18-1 odds coming into the weekend and is one of the top golfers to look out for at the 3M Open. Even though he is one of the favorites this weekend, there are still some concerns that he might still be dealing with a back injury that forced him to miss the Travelers Championship. He finished tied for 81st at the Open and missed the cut at the Scottish Open showing us that he has been inconsistent as of late. That said, this is an opportunity for a bounce back event and that’s why he is rated as one of the favorites this weekend.
