NFL Confidence Pool Picks Week 1
Week 1 is finally here! And we have one of the marquee matchups of the entire season to start us off tonight as the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills travel to Los Angeles to take on the defending champion Los Angeles Rams.
Every week in this space we will provide NFL confidence pool picks for every game. These picks are all straight up with no point spread. These confidence pool picks are also useful as NFL survivor pool picks as we will rank each matchup from strongest to weakest.
Our main NFL confidence pool writer is not available this week but will return next week. So, I will be providing the predictions for NFL Week 1.
For confidence pool strategy, I like to play it pretty conservative at the start. If I get behind later in the season, that is the time to rank risky picks higher.
Week 1 is looks daunting from a survivor pool perspective, and thus it should be a tough week for confidence pools as well. Ten of 16 favorites are road teams this week, and I have feeling some dogs will be barking loud in Week 1. I’ll do my best to help you get off to a strong start in Week 1.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL expert picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
No. 1 – Tennessee over NY Giants – I am using this as my main survivor pool pick this week. This Titans team is well coached and should be ready. One of the biggest home favorites this week.
No. 2 – Indianapolis over Houston – The Colts look solid, and this is a probable playoff team, while Houston should be in contention for the No. 1 pick. Looks like there has been some sharp betting action on the home team, which is concerning, but Indy should do enough for the road win.
No. 3 – Kansas City over Arizona – This is another marquee matchup of the week. I think the Chiefs are underrated coming into the season and that their offense will be more productive than last season despite the loss of Tyreek Hill.
No. 4 – LA Chargers over LV Raiders – I always stay away from divisional matchups for survivor pools early in the season, but I like the Chargers in this spot as they are the better team, and this is a revenge scenario.
No. 5 – San Francisco over Chicago – The Niners will be a very good team this season, and they will likely go to the Super Bowl with excellent QB performance. The Bears are rebuilding AGAIN, and they should be in for a long four quarters on Sunday.
No. 6 – Miami over New England – This should be a close game and I’m not fully buying into the Fins as a contender, but I do think they will be able to tough out a win in the home opener.
No. 7 – Philadelphia over Detroit – I won a lot of money on Detroit last season as they were very good ATS. But they have a lot of buzz this season, and I think they are getting too much respect on this line against a very good Eagles club.
No. 8 – Minnesota over Green Bay – The first underdog on the list. Just think the home team is the more complete team at this point of the NFL season.
No. 9 – New Orleans over Atlanta – The Saints are a playoff contender, and the Falcons should be drafting high. Something about this matchup makes me uneasy, hence why I ranked it lower.
No. 10 – Baltimore over NY Jets – I am betting on the Jets this week as I think they will be much improved, and I want to get out in front of the oddsmakers on this team. But Baltimore should do enough to win a close one.
No. 11 – Denver over Seattle – I think Seattle will play with a lot of pride here in primetime on Monday Night Football and against their former QB.
No. 12 – Buffalo over LA Rams – Just think the Bills are the better team here. If they would have gotten past Kansas City in the playoffs last season, I think they would have beat the Rams in the Super Bowl.
No. 13 – Tampa Bay over Dallas – Both clubs are overrated, in my opinion, but the road team should be able to pull out a close one.
No. 14 – Cleveland over Carolina – The better team is the road team, but this one should be close and could go either way.
No. 15 – Jacksonville over Washington – The Jags should be improved this season and I think they can pull the upset here.
No. 16 – Pittsburgh over Cincinnati – Super Bowl hangover. Enough said!
