MLB Betting Help: Hot Moneyline Teams as of April 19
Major League Baseball action is back and better than ever. Every team starts off the season with hopes to win the World Series. However, quickly through the first two weeks of the season, teams have started to separate themselves into either the contender or pretender category.
Early in the season is also always a great chance to make money from a betting perspective. With the moneyline moving around quite frequently in the first few weeks of the season as teams start to form their identity, there is always early value in every sport. Early value means teams have predicted win totals and predictable stats from last season and new players acquired. Every year in baseball, teams will either live up to predictions, surpass them or well under perform. Look at the San Francisco Giants last season; many experts predicted the Giants to have right around the 73-win marker, and they finished the year with 107. With the Giants passing their expected win total by 35 wins, it offered bettors a lot of value. Let’s look at who the early hot money line teams are in the MLB.

Colorado Rockies
W/L 7-3
Total Money $587
Rank: 1st
The Colorado Rockies come in as the hottest money line team in the MLB. What is even more impressive is that the Rockies compete in the National League West. Where most people get excited about the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, the Rockies have proven to be no slouch. On side note, the NL West has the most wins combined by any division in baseball, and it is not even close. The Rockies are the top hitting team in baseball right now and posses the top bullpen ERA in the major leagues. In the top 5 starting pitchers who has earned money on the moneyline this season, the Rockies hold the three and four spot by the likes of Chad Kuhl and Antonio Senzatela, respectively. The Rockies also have eight players in their starting lineup hitting over .300, but this is probably not sustainable. However, ride this team while everything is clicking.
Oakland Athletics
W/L 6-5
Total Money $482
Rank 2nd
The Oakland Athletics come into the season at a predicted win total of O/U 68.5, a dramatic decrease from last season at 86 wins. Getting tagged with a rebuild season, the Athletics have over performed so far in 2022, winning games in every series and giving a lot of value to bettors early in the season. The A’s are currently 4th in the Majors in team run differential and have been especially hot on the road, posting a +10 run differential. Oakland has been performing despite major loses in the offseason and throughout last year, as the corner infield from last year, Matt Chapman and Matt Olson, are gone. Also gone are two of the A’s starting outfielders, Starling Marte and Mark Canha. On top of that, catcher Yan Gomes and infielder Josh Harrison were traded at the deadline last July. The bullpen also saw upheaval. Pitchers Andrew Chafin, Jake Diekman and Sergio Romo all left for new teams. Starter Sean Manaea was traded away before the season as well. The Athletics have been upsetting teams dispute many starters leaving and their bats only performing at 21st in the league, with only one player hitting over .300. The Athletics pitching has been subpar at 17th in the majors. However, as a unit, they have found ways to win games and remain competitive so far. Although not impressive for stats, they were a team predicted to be in the bottom three of the league prior to opening day. Frankie Montas has been a horse on the mound so far this season, ranking fifth in strikeouts and second in innings pitched. Paul Blackburn has also looked impressive early, and confidence can be had with these two starters moving forward. Are the Athletics overachieving? Probably. But in typical Oakland fashion, they are getting consistent effort from all aspects of the lineup and have a track record of over performing as a franchise.
San Francisco Giants
W/L 7-2
Total Money $379
Rank 3rd
San Francisco has continued from where they left off last season. Despite much of the strength of the Giants roster being over 30, they continue to prove they have the winning formula. The Giants have been led primarily by outstanding pitching. San Francisco ranks first in league leaders for team pitching, posting a 2.20 ERA, .280 OBP, .577 OPS and 86 strikeouts. Alex Wood and Carlos Roden both rank in the top 30 statically for pitchers in the MLB right now, and Roden is pitching at an astronomical 15.8 strikeouts per 9 innings right now. Anthony DeSclafani ranks 16th in money earned for moneyline at the starting pitcher category. Not to mention Logan Webb is posting a 1.29 ERA this season. Having consistent efforts from numerous starters in their rotation is what has made the Giants a powerful moneyline team so far this season. With the co-ace combo of Rodon and Webb, expect the Giants to make you a lot of money this year. The Giants have won every series so far this season and rank first in team defense and ninth in runs scored. No surprise as they were Top 10 in both categories last year.
Other teams to note are the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, who have all had impressive starts as far as money line betting is concerned. The White Sox, Mets and Dodgers all come as no surprise, as all three teams rank in Top 5 for World Series futures odds and have lived up to expectations. The Cubs came into the season with a predicted win mark at 74.5 O/U and are slightly over performing that pace with quality wins coming early against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are the predicted top team in the National League Central.
