FanDuel Lands the New York Yankees as Official Sports Betting Partner

Both Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM made a huge splash in New York with landmark sponsorship deals with Madison Square Garden. This agreement also included the NBA’s New York Knicks and NHL’s New York Rangers who fall under the umbrella of MSG ownership.

That partnership was crafted towards the end of last year before mobile sports betting went live in the Empire State. New York has taken the entire US sports betting industry by storm since online sportsbooks went live in early January. Since that point, the state has turned into the biggest market for legal sports betting in the country.

Towards the end of April, the biggest US sportsbook operator may have landed the biggest sports team sponsorship of them all. FanDuel recently announced that it will become the official betting partner of the New York Yankees.

Since 2018 when individual states were first given the right to govern and regulate sports betting within their borders, FanDuel has emerged as the No. 1 sportsbook operator in the legal US market based on share.

Transforming itself from a popular daily fantasy sports site, the New York-based company has been able to maintain its No. 1 market position in a rapidly expanding marketplace. Backed by the UK’s Flutter Entertainment as its parent company, FanDuel is now recognized as the top online sportsbook in the New York market.

As part of the agreement with the team, FanDuel will gain advertising rights to Yankee Stadium in key vantage points for television viewers. Also included in the deal are VIP hospitality options during Yankees’ games.

Mike Raffensperger is the Chief Marketing Officer at FanDuel. His comments on his company’s latest partnership included:

“There is no more globally recognized sports brand then the New York Yankees, and as a New York-based company we’re delighted to remain partners with our hometown team. One of our company values is to be absurdly fan-focused and there is no fanbase more passionate about their team than Yankees fans which makes this a natural fit.”

Adding his thoughts on the new partnership was Michael J. Tusiani as the Senior Vice President of Partnerships for the Yankees with the following comment:

“We hope that FanDuel’s Yankee Stadium presence and customer engagement will continue to strengthen its brand as a sports betting operator within the tri-state area.”

While FanDuel has scored the biggest prize among professional New York sports teams, this is not the first partnership with a MLB team in the state. The month of April began with Caesars Sportsbook joining forces with the New York Mets as an official sports betting partner.

Caesars was able to jump out to a fast start in the mobile New York sports betting market but it could not hold that early share to remain at the top of the list. When the final numbers were tallied for the initial month of January, FanDuel’s total sports betting handle quickly surpassed Caesars Sportsbook by a rather high margin according to in-state gaming numbers.

New York has remained on an incredible roll right through March. After setting a new national monthly sports betting volume record in January at $1.65 billion, New York came close to beating that mark with a $1.638 billion handle in March.

The first 100 days of legal mobile sports betting in New York starting on Jan. 8 has produced more than $5.3 billion in total sports betting volume. This figure is according to the New York State Gaming Commission. FanDuel has accounted for $1.96 billion of that total handle followed by DraftKings at $1.3 billion. Caesars Sportsbook is a close third in New York at $1.29 billion.
