NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 6: Advice and Predictions
We are through five weeks of the National Football League. And with that comes time for our yearly reminder at this point every season that teams who are bad are going to continue to be bad, and teams that are good are likely to face a bit of a regression, so don’t be trying to get too cute with your selections. Sure, the underdogs are having a great season for the most part, but that’s strictly against the spread. For the sake of the survivor pool, you need to find the absolute perfect spot to use an underdog to win outright, and those spots are very rare. Stay focused on the task at hand and let’s survive another week.
As far as last week’s results go, we hit our top nine plays on the board, culminating with New England and Baltimore. Our only losses of the week were Vegas, Denver, Seattle and the New York Jets. If you’ve made it this far in your survivor pool, congrats! That is a great accomplishment. However, let’s not get too complacent as the goal is to win the entire pool.
Here are my survivor plays ranked from strongest to weakest for Week 6 of the National Football League Season. The team I list first is my selection.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Dallas Cowboys over New England Patriots: I trusted the Patriots to easily beat the Texans, and that was a sweat job. Now I go right back to fading them against a really good Cowboys team that might be one of the best teams in the entire NFC. Dallas has too many weapons for the Patriots to keep up with offensively, and I see Dallas winning easily in this one.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Seattle Seahawks: I stuck a fork in Pittsburgh prior to last week’s game but they proved me wrong. Now they get a Seattle team traveling across the country and starting their backup quarterback. The Steelers won’t win more than eight games this season, but this is one they should win.
Green Bay Packers over Chicago Bears: Everyone was calling for a Packers loss to the Bengals as the line was indicating it was a trap. The Packers prevailed. And while the Bears are coming off a surprising win vs. Vegas, the Packers should win this game easily. Look for a big day from Rodgers and Adams.
Los Angeles Rams over New York Giants: The Rams showed a ton of character in their Thursday win vs Seattle, but it was aided by an injury to Russell Wilson. Nonetheless, they are the better team in this matchup, and their defense should limit what the Giants’ offense can do. Take the better team with confidence.
Arizona Cardinals over Cleveland Browns: Just when you think the Browns are going to come away with a gutsy win, they find a way to lose the game in typical Browns’ fashion. I don’t think they are good enough to hold down a really good Cardinals team, especially if Mayfield shows any side effects of a bummed shoulder.
Buffalo Bills over Tennessee Titans: This should be another good contest this week, and I’ll roll with the Bills once again because they have the better defense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Philadelphia Eagles: The Bucs were sleepwalking through the first half vs the Dolphins but turned it on late for a blowout win. The Eagles showed some resilience by coming back to beat the Panthers, but I don’t believe the Eagles’ defense has what it takes to slow down the Bucs’ offense.
Kansas City Chiefs over Washington Football Team: I’m not ready to hit the panic button on the Chiefs season just yet, but they need to figure some things out on both sides of the football if they want to get back to the promise land. They were beaten soundly by the Bills (we had Buffalo), but they should respond well here against a bad Washington team.
Minnesota Vikings over Carolina Panthers: I’ve said it time and time again, the Panthers’ offenses without CMC is not very good. Darnold just doesn’t have the receivers needed to put up big points, and we saw that last week vs Philadelphia – a game in which they squandered away. The Vikings are not any better in terms of winning emphatically, but they did get a big win vs Detroit and should use that as a catapult for back-to-back wins.
Indianapolis Colts over Houston Texans: It’s an AFC South showdown between Houston and Indianapolis, the latter of which is coming off a short week loss to Baltimore. The Texans played well against the Patriots, but it was all for naught. Indy has the better defense, and that’s who I’ll side with here.
Las Vegas Raiders over Denver Broncos: I’m not sure what’s going on with the Raiders, besides the coaching situation, but they’ve played about as poorly as they could over the last two games. I think they wake up in this contest in a divisional game vs a team that is coming off cross-country beating courtesy the Steelers. Raiders’ offense wins this game for them.
Jacksonville Jaguars over Miami Dolphins: Does anyone other than people who live in these two places care about this game? You have the 0-5 Jags taking on the 1-4 Dolphins. I don’t think the Jags are going 0-17, so I think they get this game because they’re “due”.
Cincinnati Bengals over Detroit Lions: Both teams are coming off heartbreaking losses, but the Bengals are the team with more talent and a head coach that isn’t crying at press conferences. The Bengals went toe-to-toe with a really good Packers team, and that showed me that they could be playoff contenders if they continue to play good football.
Los Angeles Chargers over Baltimore Ravens: This game has every bit of potential to be the game of the week. And for that reason alone, I am listing it last on the confidence scale. Both teams have shown us brilliance at times, and I expect this to be a very high-scoring affair with the Chargers ultimately making one more play than the Ravens.
