NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 4: Advice and Predictions
Before Week 3 started, I prayed to the football and gambling gods to let this be an entertaining and profitable week of NFL football. Heck, if it even sucked half as bad as Week 2 did, I would take that because Week 2 was brutal. The football gods delivered, and we were treated to some stellar games like the Ravens/Lions ending, the Chiefs/Chargers power struggle, the Raiders/Dolphins seesaw affair, and the Packers/49ers contest. We also did very well with our bets as we cashed on our basic strategy teaser and hit 14 of 16 SU winners and 12 of 16 on our point-spread selections. For as great a week that Week 3 was, we mustn’t get complacent, and we must keep our heads down and focus on replicating the success this week.
Here are my survivor plays ranked from strongest to weakest for Week 4 of the National Football League Season. The team I list first is my selection.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL picks for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Tennessee Titans over New York Jets: No bet against the Jets is a bad bet. They haven’t put up an offensive touchdown in two straight games and now have to face a Titans team that’s figured it out after getting blown out in the opener. Take Tennessee with the utmost confidence.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New England Patriots: Defense issues aside, do we really think Tom Brady is going to come back to New England and lose this game? I highly doubt that. I also highly doubt that Mac Jones is the answer for the Patriots at quarterback, and I expect a good game out of the Bucs’ defense in this contest.
Buffalo Bills over Houston Texans: I’m still not quite sure how the Bills lost to the Steelers in Week 1, but in the two games since then they’ve put up 73 points. They should have no trouble scoring points against a bad Houston team, and it will be imperative for the defense to step up and play a good game once again.
New Orleans Saints over New York Giants: The Giants just can’t seem to close out games. They had the Football Team and the Falcons on the ropes in the last two games and lost both of them by a combined four points. Now they are depleted on offense and take on a very good Saints team. This is a no-brainer.
Cincinnati Bengals over Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars have been a dumpster fire this season through three games. The savior, Trevor Lawrence, has played poorly, and the defense can’t stop anyone from scoring. The Bengals are starting to figure it out, and Joe Burrow should feast against this poor Jags’ defense.
Green Bay Packers over Pittsburgh Steelers: I told anyone who was willing to listen to me that the Steelers were going to be bad this year. Big Ben is far too old and battered to play QB, and the offense as a whole is pathetic. Green Bay is coming off two good wins and should deal with the Steelers easily at home.
Kansas City Chiefs over Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles laid an egg on Monday night against the Cowboys, and the Chiefs lost to a good Chargers team. I see the Chiefs rebounding well from the loss, while the Eagles and their poor defense get shellacked for a second consecutive week.
Dallas Cowboys over Carolina Panthers: The Cowboys are coming off a very good win against Dallas and now get to face a Carolina team that is without McCaffrey. That changes the entire complexion of their offense, and I don’t think Darnold will be able to pull off the upset over Big D.
Los Angeles Chargers over Las Vegas Raiders: You have to love the maturity of Justin Herbert. He went toe to toe with Mahomes on the road and didn’t flinch and led his team to a big division win. Now they get another division game in Primetime, and we like the Chargers a bit better on defense, so we side with them here.
Minnesota Vikings over Cleveland Browns: I like what the Vikings did last week despite playing without Dalvin Cook. They dominated the Seahawks in every facet of the game, and I expect them to do similar to the Browns. The Browns have not impressed me through three games this season, so I’ll take a shot with Cousins over Mayfield.
Los Angeles Rams over Arizona Cardinals: The Rams showed up in a big way last week against the Bucs and easily dispatched the defending Super Bowl champions. Now they get a division rival on their home soil, and we see the defense being the difference-maker in this one. Give me the Rams.
Baltimore Ravens over Denver Broncos: Don’t let the Broncos fool you into thinking they are a great team. Sure, they are 3-0, but they’ve beat the Giants, Jaguars and Jets – three teams who are a combined 0-9. The Ravens have not played their best football but are a good team. We like them to get the win here this week.
Seattle Seahawks over San Francisco 49ers: Both teams come into this game off of losses, and perhaps it was the 49ers’ loss that looks better on paper. At least they battled Green Bay until the very end, whereas the Seahawks folded like a cheap suit after going up 14-0. However, I’ll take Russ over Jimmy G any day of the week. But there are much better games to choose from this week from a survivor perspective.
Indianapolis Colts over Miami Dolphins: Another game that very few people will care about. Both teams stink, and I want no part of either team. I think the Colts can run the ball better than the Dolphins, so I’ll take them.
Detroit Lions over Chicago Bears: Do you really want to use this game as your survivor play? I know I don’t. Justin Tucker’s game-winning field goal to beat the Lions was from 66 yards, 19 more yards than the Bears had as a team in total offense. Give me the Lions, because why the hell now.
Atlanta Falcons over Washington Football Team: And lastly, the Football Team was blown out by Buffalo, while the Falcons got a good win over the Giants. Still, these two teams are far from playoff caliber, and I trust Matt Ryan more than Taylor Heinicke.
