NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 2: Advice and Predictions
Week 1 of the National Football League delivered, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s in store for the rest of the season. We did have some dud games like Philly/Atlanta, but we also had games like the Chiefs/Browns, and Ravens/Raiders that gave us action-packed 60 minutes of football with crazy endings. I gave you the Niners and Rams as my top-two selections for last week’s Survivor Pools, and both teams won. Let’s look to keep the winning roll going and survive another week.
Doc’s Sports offers NFL picks against the spread for every game on our NFL predictions page.
Here are my survivor plays ranked from strongest to weakest for Week 2 of the National Football League Season. The team I list first is my selection.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Oakland Raiders: The Steelers were being shut out at halftime by the Bills before scoring 20 unanswered points for a 23-16 win. The Raiders come off an emotionally draining Monday Night football win vs the Ravens, and I think this is a massive letdown spot for them traveling across the country. Steelers win this game by double digits.
Denver Broncos over Jacksonville Jaguars: The Broncos get nice marks for their Week 1 win, while the Jags were extremely poor. The Jags couldn’t protect Trevor Lawrence from a weak Houston defense, and now they have to face a really good Broncos’ defense. Give me the Broncos in this one.
Cleveland Browns over Houston Texans: The Browns hung tough with the Chiefs until the very end. They’ve now started the season off without a win in 17 straight years. The good thing is that this is Week 2, and they get to play a Texans team that will be fat and happy with their win vs the Jaguars. Cleveland is the better team and will win this game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Atlanta Falcons: The Bucs are good and have had extra time to rest and prep for the Falcons. The Falcons are bad and are not going to win this game. Give me Tampa all day in this one.
Kansas City Chiefs over Baltimore Ravens: This is going to be a good game. However, if the Raiders can hang 34 on the Ravens’ defense, what will the Chiefs do? Not to mention, the Ravens will be gassed from that OT game and now come back across the country for another prime-time game. This is a great spot for KC.
Green Bay Packers over Detroit Lions: If the Packers lose to the Lions at home, on Monday Night Football, I’ll eat my hat. Sure, the Lions played well in the second half vs the Niners, and the Packers no-showed vs the Saints, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater in this game. The Packers are still the better team and will win.
Washington Football Team over New York Giants: The Giants couldn’t have played a worse game in Week 1 if they tried. The offense was putrid, and the defense was missing in action. Now they have to deal with a Washington team off a loss in a game that they should have won. Give me the Football team over the Giants.
Buffalo Bills over Miami Dolphins: The Bills simply couldn’t get the offense going against a really good Pittsburgh defense. I don’t think they’ll have an issue moving the ball against this Dolphins team. Credit to Miami for beating New England, but a lot of teams are going to beat New England this year. Give me Buffalo.
Cincinnati Bengals over Chicago Bears: The Bears hung tough for three quarters against the Rams, but they are still a mess on offense and the defense has a lot more questions than answers. The Bengals are coming off a fluke win against the Vikings, but I like their roster a lot more than I like the Bears.
San Francisco 49ers over Philadelphia Eagles: The Niners got out to a big lead against the lowly Lions and then took their foot off the gas pedal. That’s fine; they got the win and now move on to Philly, who was really good in their opening win against Atlanta. I’m still riding with the Niners here as they are the better team and should have no issues playing on the grass.
New Orleans Saints over Carolina Panthers: Both teams are off wins, but it was more so the other teams offered little in terms of resistance. Nonetheless, I like the Saints roster better than the Panthers, and I think they make another statement here in this division matchup.
Los Angeles Rams over Indianapolis Colts: The Rams got their season off on the right foot with a win vs the Bears, while the Colts lost at home to the Seahawks. The Rams’ offense looked awesome in hanging 34 points, while the Colts sputtered to just 16 points. I’ll take the Rams and their new-look offense and stout defense in this game.
New England Patriots over New York Jets: Does anyone really care about these 0-1 teams? Both are starting rookie quarterbacks, and both teams scored less than 17 points in Week 1. I’ll take the better coach in this matchup, and he’s patrolling the Patriots sideline.
Arizona Cardinals over Minnesota Vikings: The Cardinals went on the road in Week 1 and came away with an emphatic win. The Vikings had 12 offensive penalties called against them and lost in OT to the Bengals. The Vikings should be more disciplined this week, but the Cardinals’ offense impressed me too much to overlook them. Give me the Cards in this one.
Los Angeles Chargers over Dallas Cowboys: I feel as if these two teams are evenly matched. I give a slight edge to the Chargers based on their defense, but both offenses can put up points. This game is too close to call, so please don’t use it.
Seattle Seahawks over Tennessee Titans: The Seahawks played well in Week 1, while the Titans did not. This could be a classic overreaction, but the Seahawks are going to be a good team this year, and the Julio Jones experiment in Tennessee is going to fail. I’ll take Russell Wilson over Ryan Tannehill any day of the week.
