Week 12 Picks Against the Spread
Detroit Lions +3.5 over Chicago Bears: Until Matt Nagy is off the Bears’ sideline, I will look to fade them whenever possible. I fully understand backing the Lions is risky, but they’ve been playing hard for Dan Campbell. And with a home game on a very important day, we see them keeping this contest close and getting an outright win.
Dallas Cowboys -7 over Las Vegas Raiders: I don’t like the prospect of the Cowboys likely playing this game without CeeDee Lamb, but the Raiders are a team of walking zombies right now. They’ve dropped three straight and in usual fashion are fading down the stretch. We don’t see them keeping this one competitive on a short week.
Buffalo Bills -4.5 over New Orleans Saints: The Bills are reeling right now, having lost three of their last five games, but a trip to the Big Easy should get them back in the win column. The Bills won’t be gashed by the run. And with the Saints posing little to no threat through the air, the Bills should win this game by at least a touchdown.
Jacksonville Jaguars +1 over Atlanta Falcons: I don’t really want to bet this game, but I can’t help but think Trevor Lawrence is due for a big game. The Falcons’ defense stinks, so the Jags can possibly pull off the upset win if they show up and play for a full 60 minutes.
New York Jets +3 over Houston Texans: Just because the Texans beat the Titans last week does not mean they should be three-point favorites over anyone. The Jets do stink, but I’ll take the points and even buy the hook should I feel deranged when I wake up on Sunday.
New England Patriots -6 over Tennessee Titans: These two teams are trending in the opposite direction. The Patriots have won five straights while the Titans dropped a very winnable game against the Texans last week. The loss of Derrick Henry is starting to take its toll, and we see the Patriots’ sixth-ranked pass defense making life miserable for Ryan Tannehill.
Philadelphia Eagles -3.5 over New York Giants: The Eagles are starting to heat up at the right time. And with their remaining schedule, they could make some noise should they sneak into the playoffs. The Giants are a terrible football team and will be faded every chance I get for the duration of the season.
Pittsburgh Steelers +4.5 over Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals went into Las Vegas and came away with a win, while the Steelers went into Los Angeles and fell short. However, the Chargers are good, whereas the Raiders are not. I expect the Steelers to have their full complement of defenders back for this one and as such will keep this division game close.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -2.5 over Indianapolis Colts: I don’t believe the Colts will run rampant on the Bucs like they did on the Bills. The Bucs got their kinks out last week against the Giants, and we see them rolling to another win here today to keep pace with the Cardinals for top spot in the NFC.
Carolina Panthers -2 over Miami Dolphins: Cam Newton or Tua Tagovailoa? One of these QB’s was run out of town, while the other is currently in that same situation. Give me the Panthers since Christian McCaffrey is back and he’s the best player on the field.
Los Angeles Chargers -2.5 over Denver Broncos: This is the line of the century. The Chargers, a really good football team, as less than a field-goal favorite over the Broncos – a bad football team. If you can tell me where the Broncos are going to find 21 points in this contest, I’ll sell you an oceanside property in Kansas. Not happening. Chargers roll by double digits.
Minnesota Vikings +3 over San Francisco 49ers: I really do hate trusting either of these two teams. But, unfortunately, someone has to win, unless it ends in a tie. Give me the Vikings and their offense, which was very fun to watch last week.
Green Bay Packers -1 over Los Angeles Rams: The Packers lost a thriller last week to the Vikings, and the Rams were on a bye. Yet, here we are, with the Packers sitting as one-point home favorites. I’ll take Aaron Rodgers at less than a field-goal favorite at home every day of the week.
Cleveland Browns +3.5 over Baltimore Ravens: This is a great spot to fade the public. Most are going to be on the Ravens in a “revenge” spot, and normally I would be too. However, the Browns are a matchup nightmare for the Ravens, and I see them sweeping the season series.
Washington Football Team PK over Seattle Seahawks: I don’t think the Seahawks could play any worse than they have done over the last two games with Russell Wilson under center. If there was ever a game that they needed to win to get some confidence back, it was last week vs the Cardinals. Now the Seahawks travel cross country for a prime-time game. I See Washington doing a bit more offensively than the Seahawks and coming away with a win.
