More and more players are having to quarantine while more and more games are getting postponed. This is going to be a weird season, with many players out for long stretches due to quarantine, so please make sure to do extra research on a team’s health before making a wager. We’ve got some exciting NBA action on Wednesday, including the return of Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis, along with a couple rivalry games and potential big upsets. Here are the leans for January 13’s NBA slate.

Pelicans vs Clippers 1/13/21 (-6, 221)

The Pelicans have lost three straight games that have all been pretty close. They took losses from the Pacers in overtime, the Thunder, and the Hornets, all at home. Now they’re traveling on the road with a three-game losing streak. The Clippers are 6-4 in their last 10 games. And as long as the Clippers team is at full strength, they should win this game. I like the Clippers to easily outscore the Pelicans and cover the spread.
Key trends: The Pelicans are 5-12 ATS (-3.38 ppg) since Jul 30, 2020.

Early lean: Clippers, Over

Mavericks vs Hornets 1/13/21 (+5, 220)

This could be Kristaps Porzingis’ first game with the Mavericks. That all sounds exciting, but we’ve seen this story before.  The Mavericks will add Porzingis and the team will start and finish this game poorly, trying to find the chemistry again. Porzingis isn’t exactly the most efficient player, and sometimes it takes him a while to get going. The Hornets have played very well recently, beating the Knicks, Hawks (twice) and Pelicans in their last four games by wide margins. Let’s roll with the momentum here.

Key trends: The Hornets are 4-0 ATS (14.12 ppg) since Jan 06, 2021.

Early lean: Hornets, Under

Nets vs Knicks 1/13/21 (+4.5, 218.5)

Kyrie Irving hasn’t played due to personal reasons and was now caught without a mask at a family birthday party.  He won’t be playing for quite some time, and it’s a blow to this team that is already without Spencer Dinwiddie, the back-up guard. The Knicks aren’t scoring at a high rate, but they’re at least defending at a high rate. If this game goes under, and the Knicks hold the Nets to a lower amount of points, the Knicks should get the job here, at least against the spread.

Key trends: The Nets are 2-7 ATS (-2.61 ppg) since Dec 27, 2020.

Early lean: Knicks, Under

Hawks vs Suns 1/13/21 (-5, 228)

The Hawks had lost four straight before beating up a Sixers team that didn’t have many options in terms of who could play. The Suns just lost badly to a Washington Wizards team that is without Russell Westbrook. It was pretty embarrassing for the Suns, but they had won two of their last three before that game, with the lone loss coming in overtime. At home, I expect the Suns to get back on track, defend really well, and score enough against a bad Hawks defense.

Key trends: The Suns are 9-1 ATS (11.65 ppg) since Mar 06, 2020 at home.

Early lean: Suns, Under

Lakers vs Thunder 1/13/21 (TBD, TBD)

The Lakers are 8-3 on the season and should have no problem against the Thunder, right? Wrong. The Thunder are a covering machine and have now won four of their last five games, outscoring their opponents in their wins by wide margins, outside of their win against the Pelicans. This game is going to be closer than you’d think. The Lakers might win, but the Thunder will likely cover.

Key trends: The Thunder are 10-4 ATS (1.39 ppg) since Aug 22, 2020.
