DraftKings Promotes AGA’s ‘Have A Game Plan’ Program
As the legal US sports betting industry continues to expand at an accelerated pace, industry leaders such as DraftKings Inc. recognize the need for programs that promote safe sports betting practices. The company is also committed to allocating financial resources to address problem gambling issues.
Earlier this month, DraftKings sent out a company press release detailing its new partnership with the American Gaming Association (AGA). The primary goal of this collaboration is to promote this organization’s ‘Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly’ public service campaign.
Given the depth of DraftKings’ company resources, the Boston-based sportsbook can apply this campaign to many of its own media channels to promote safe play. This includes the company’s retail gaming properties.
This is the first partnership that takes a comprehensive approach to promote responsible betting on an industry-wide scale. The Have A Game Plan campaign can now be rolled out on a much larger basis through the help of a national sportsbook network.
This program will also become the centerpiece of DraftKings’ efforts to promote safer play in each of its 10 retail sportsbooks in the marketplace.
Christine Thurmond is the Director for Responsible Gaming at DraftKings. Her comments on this new and vital partnership included:
“We are excited to join forces with the American Gaming Association to promote their forward-thinking public service campaign, Have A Game Plan. Customer safety is paramount, and we are confident that implementing Have A Game Plan alongside our own responsible gaming message and tools will enable us to increase customer exposure to responsible gaming practices and ultimately foster safer play.”
AGA’s mission is to educate consumers on the concept of responsible use of gambling products such as legal sports betting either at land-based retail books or online through mobile sportsbook apps. The organization also seeks to raise the awareness level of problem gambling where it exists.
DraftKings’ added role in this partnership is both paper and digital signage promoting the program. The combined goal is to spread the message of how to safely and responsibly bet on sports and sporting events. Another aspect is educating consumers on the signs of problem gambling in terms of betting behaviors and practices.
At this present moment, DraftKings operates retail sportsbooks in seven different states across the US including New Jersey, Illinois and Colorado as major markets for sports betting.
AGA Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications Casey Clark added the following insight in the press release:
“Responsibility is a fundamental priority for the American gaming industry. With more than 100 million American adults now able to legally bet on sports nationwide, it is critical to educate consumers about how to safely and responsibly bet on the sports they love – and bringing the Have A Game Plan campaign to DraftKings’ extensive network of sportsbooks and customers is a great way to do just that. We are thankful for their significant commitment to keeping bettors safe and educated about responsible gaming.”
DraftKings’ involvement carries over to the mechanics of sports betting through the development of groundbreaking technology. The company is also seeking out ways to leverage its digital marketing and social media channels to spread its own internal message of “It’s More Fun When It’s For Fun.”
Along with AGA, DraftKings contributes to the International Center for Responsible Gaming’s Fund to Support Research on Sports Wagering. The company is also committed to developing responsible gaming tools, resources and services that can be incorporated into the use of its gaming products. This includes setting limits, time-off periods and self-exclusion practices.
