Both BetMGM and Caesars Land Major Partnerships with Madison Square Garden

The battle for online sports betting market share in the state of New York is on. The Empire State has approved nine different US-based operators as it plans to launch online sports betting early next year.

Two of the nine wasted little time in making their presence felt in New York City, as the biggest piece of the pie in a sports betting market to has the potential to become the biggest in the US.

BetMGM struck first blood with its partnership deal with both Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corporation and Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation. The ink was barely dry on that contract when Caesars Sportsbook stepped up to the plate with its own separate deal with each partner. This is the ownership group behind the management of Madison Square Garden as an iconic New York City sports venue.

Under the terms of the BetMGM agreement, the third-biggest mobile sportsbook in the US receives a very lucrative signage deal at MSG. As an official sports betting partner, the BetMGM brand will have high visibility for both the NBA’s New York Knicks and the NHL’s New York Rangers’ home games.

This includes branding on basketball stanchions and the MSG Zamboni in between periods at hockey games.  BetMGM will also hold a prominent position on GardenVision as another important focal point during the games.

Also part of the deal is tie-ins with MSG Networks. This provides live game coverage for both the Knicks and Rangers as well as the other two area NHL teams, the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.

Finally, the BetMGM brand will have signage outside the venue on digital boards. This offers key brand exposure to the millions of visitors that New York City attracts on an annual basis.

Caesars Sportsbook will be an official sports betting partner of the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers. Both teams fall under the ownership umbrella of MSG Sports. This designation also includes official status as a partner of MSG Arena and MSG Networks.

Part of Caesars’ agreement offers branded hospitality space at the sports arena. This covers all of the Knicks and Rangers’ home games. Caesars Rewards members can gain access to the hospitality lounge. Special promotions, contests and giveaways will be part of the festivities.

Caesars will also have a comprehensive signage package within and outside of MSG. One added feature is an exclusive with MSG Networks for the soon-to-be launched “Once Course With JB Smoove” media property. He is currently the spokesperson for Caesars Sportsbook in the company’s ongoing TV and radio ad campaign.

With both BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook tied to MSG as well as the Knicks and Rangers, each could have an inside track to New York City sports bettors when online betting first goes live.

Legal sports betting in New York has been available the past few years on a very limited scale. This included retail sportsbooks located in land-based casinos in the upstate region of New York.

Efforts to add online sports betting to the mix through mobile sportsbooks heated up this year. With the proper legislation in place, putting the rules and regulations in place was the next step in the process.

The New York State Gaming Commission made everything official by naming the nine mobile operators that have been approved for licenses in the state. Along with BetMGM and Caesars, FanDuel and DraftKings are on that list as the two biggest online sportsbook operators in the current US marketplace.
