Basic Strategy Teasers: Best Week 9 NFL Betting Options
It’s been a rather unfortunate week for the NFL in terms of publicity. First, we got word of Derrick Henry’s injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season. Henry was the NFL’s leading rusher and was well on his way to winning his second rushing title in as many years. Then we got word of Aaron Rodgers and his positive COVID test, which will keep him out for at least this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. And then the awful news broke that Las Vegas receiver Henry Ruggs was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of another person and their dog. Hopefully, this week’s slate of games will serve merely as entertainment, because life is too fragile to stress about bets won or bets lost.
The Basic Strategy Teaser was put on the shelf last week because of poor lines being available, thus nothing fit the parameters. We did however cash our Week 7 teaser, which brings our record to 5-1 through eight weeks of action. We had Green Bay teased down to -2.5, and they easily beat Washington by 14 points. The second leg was Miami +8.5. And despite them losing the game, they covered the spread with just a two-point loss. Let’s find another Basic Strategy Teaser winner this week!

Best Six-Point Teaser for Week 9.
Los Angeles Rams -1.5 & Kansas City Chiefs -1.5 (-120)
Risk: $120 to win $100
Let’s take a second to explain these spreads to those of you who are new around here. The Los Angeles Rams are -7.5-point favorites against the Tennessee Titans. By using a six-point teaser, you will bring that spread down through the key numbers of three and seven and get them as a -1.5-point favorite. As for the Chiefs, the same concept applies. Teasing them down gets them through the key numbers of three and seven, and now they just have to win by a field goal on their home soil.
I am a very big believer in what the Rams are doing and/or have done so far this season, and it all starts in the offseason when they acquired Matthew Stafford from Detroit. That trade instantly gave them a legitimate gun-slinging quarterback that fits well with Sean McVay’s offense. The on-field product that we’ve seen has been nothing short of stellar, and the offense is humming along, sitting inside the top five in all major offensive categories with the exception of running the ball. Now, the Rams get to host a prime-time game on their home turf, and they just acquired a former Super Bowl Champion Von Miller to help bolster their already stacked defense. I just don’t see the Titans going into Los Angeles and winning this football game. Not to mention, I haven’t even gotten to the fact that the Titans will be without their best player, Derrick Henry, for the duration of the season. Henry suffered a fractured foot in last week’s win. And without him toting the rock 20+ times, the Titans’ offense will be out of synch and simply not as effective. I have nothing against Ryan Tannehill, but Henry kept the defense focused on him and afforded Tannehill time to throw the ball and make plays. Without him, the passing game likely won’t work.
As for the second leg of this teaser, I was willing and ready to bet a large sum of money on the Green Bay Packers, specifically Aaron Rodgers, as an underdog. I was robbed of that opportunity when Rodgers tested positive for COVID and am now flipping sides like a true square. The reality of the matter is that Patrick Mahomes should be able to generate enough offense – despite the offense looking out of sorts – to beat either Jordan Love or Blake Bortles. I simply cannot see either one of those quarterbacks managing the game well enough to leave Arrowhead with a victory over a very desperate Chiefs team. I know the Chiefs have looked brutal at times. However, at home, in another must-win game, I trust Mahomes and Andy Reid to get the job done.
Alternative Options
Cleveland Browns +2.5 over Cincinnati Bengals: If you include the Browns in this BST model, you would tease them upwards to +8.5. I know OBJ is out of the lineup, and there is a lot of bashing Baker Mayfield in the media this week, but the Bengals defense just let the Jets score 34 points on them. I expect a breakthrough performance on offense for the Browns, and +8.5 is a lot of points in a division matchup.
Philadelphia Eagles +1.5 over Los Angeles Chargers: Depending on where you look, the spread is either +1.5 or +2. Make sure to tease up the best number available if you like the Eagles. I think the Eagles can keep up with the Chargers offensively, but I still think the Chargers will win this game. It’s a lot of points to ask a team to lay on the road, so the Eagles may be worth a shot at +7.5 or +8.
