NFL Survivor Pool Picks and Advice: Week 9

I apologize for suggesting the Packers as a top-play last week in your survivor pools. I had no idea that their defense would take their “cheese heads” nickname to heart and allow the Vikings run game to shred them to pieces. The Packers’ owe us a bounce-back performance. And if you were lucky enough to avoid them last week, they may be a great play this week as they take on a depleted San Francisco squad. If you’re hesitant to pull the trigger on the Packers, there are a few options I like that feature the lesser-used teams across most survivor pools.
Green Bay Packers over San Francisco 49ers: I know it’s tough to trust the Packers after they let Minnesota run all over them last week, but the Niners are banged up. And with the Packers having major revenge from last year’s playoffs, this seems like a great spot for them to bounce back and grab a big win against a depleted Niners’ team.
Houston Texans over Jacksonville Jaguars: The Texans are fresh off a bye week, which means they didn’t lose. The same can be said for the Jags, but the Jags are without their starting quarterback, and we don’t see Mike Glennon or Jake Luton outperforming Deshaun Watson in this contest. The Texans made a statement on deadline day by not getting rid of Will Fuller, so we see them running away with this contest.
Pittsburgh Steelers over Dallas Cowboys: If you haven’t been on the Steelers bandwagon through the first seven weeks, I suggest getting on now. The Steelers are a great team, and we expect them to handle the terrible Cowboys with ease. The Cowboys may be trotting out Cooper Rush in this contest to play quarterback, and we see that ending very poorly.
Arizona Cardinals over Miami Dolphins: The Cardinals are a good team. They showed that two weeks ago against the Seahawks. Now they are rested and take on a Miami team that’s still starting a rookie QB and that’s going to be without their starting running back. I expect a big day from Murray and Hopkins in this game.
Kansas City Chiefs over Carolina Panthers: If you want to get in front of the KC train, by all means, I won’t stop you. But I am not ready to bet against Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Panthers were sloppy and undisciplined on Thursday against the Falcons. And unless they play an absolutely perfect game – on the road no less – they have no shot at winning this game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New Orleans Saints: I’ll take the Bucs’ weapons over the Saints weapons and the Bucs’ defense over the Saints’ defense as well. Tampa is well on its way to winning the division, and they take a step to that goal here with a revenge win against a Saints team that isn’t as good as it’s 5-2 record indicates.
Tennessee Titans over Chicago Bears: The Titans come into this game off a terrible performance against the Bengals, while the Bears lost a competitive OT game against the Saints. Don’t let last week’s results fool you. The Titans are the better team across the board, and I expect their defense to bounce-back in a big way and limit the anemic Bears offense to just a handful of points.
Seattle Seahawks over Buffalo Bills: This may be one of the best games of the week, and ultimately, we are going to trust Russell Wilson and his offensive weapons more so than Josh Allen and his. The Seahawks have a positive scoring differential, while the Bills, who are 6-2, have a -1 scoring differential.
Indianapolis Colts over Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens are too banged up for me to trust them on the road. The Colts flexed their muscle last week on the road and put up 41 points against the Lions. They should be able to continue that production against a Ravens team that just looks flat, compared to what we saw from them last season.
Minnesota Vikings over Detroit Lions: It wasn’t the return we expected from Dalvin Cook, but boy did he impress. Cook ran all over the Packers defense, and we expect him to do the same vs the Lions. The Vikings are the better of these two terrible teams, so we’ll take a shot with the Purple People Eaters at home.
Denver Broncos over Atlanta Falcons: Why not take a shot with the Broncos after that huge win against their division rival? The Broncos have some momentum to take into this game, and we still don’t trust the Falcons to win games. I wouldn’t bet this game though, as there are much better games to wager on.
New York Giants over Washington: The last time these two teams hooked up; the Giants held on for a 20-19 win. I see a similar game in the sense that it’s close, but I think the Giants’ defense makes one or two more stops than Washington and they hold on for a win, despite employing Daniel Jones as their starting QB.
Las Vegas Raiders over Los Angeles Chargers: The Raiders are coming off a solid win against Cleveland and should be able to carry that momentum into this game and get the better of a Chargers team who just keeps finding ways to lose football games. The Chargers had no business letting the Broncos back into the game on Sunday, but they folded like a cheap suit and are now banged up and nowhere near the wild-card spot.
New York Jets over New England Patriots: This is the ultimate tank game for Trevor Lawrence. It wouldn’t shock me to see Belichick coach to lose this game and screw up the Jets chance at drafting Lawrence in the upcoming draft. That’s my take, and that’s the only take I have because these two teams stink.
